Basicly the "arm length" is how far away you would want the unit to be off the handlebars. Depending on how you mount it up of course. For my GPS (garmin 765) I think I went with sort of the most common I think 3". Just sort of depends onthe angle of the dangle you want.

My Valve Clearance Results - Thoughts?

Yes there are several bikes that use this same shim. V-max should (being our engine is) 1st and 2nd Gen Venture, The tour Deluxe. Yamaha FJ series bikes 1100,1200,1300. Honda CBX, CB 1100f, 750/900/100c They are a 25mm valve shim. This listing has a pretty good idea of what other bikes it fits. His selection though to me is a bit to many thick ones. I got tons of like .278-.290 To buy a kit I think depending on how big a variety you get is $90. Is there a local bike shop? You may have better luck with an independent guy. Once you check the vavles, and have the tool you can go thru and remove the out of spec valve shim and see whats in it. Compare to the charts and maybe swap around to get most cylinders in spec. Then only need maybe a couple shims and you can just pick up the couple you need locally. Then the key is to keep a chart of what shim is in what cyl so next time around it is not a guessing game. -
PUC yup with ya on the seat on ole Bronsons scoot. Thats how now I know it was "TV". lol Nobody can ride one of them things all day.

What about a complete swap of carbs if a set was found? I saw some for under $100. Now I just got to remember where. I think they were for a 1st Gen. Which I understand would make your bike much faster, because it would have 1st gen parts.

I had good luck and liked the handling of the Pirelli on the 900 Vulcan I had. I would say it got excellent wear on that bike. I got at least 12K out of and could have got more but I was planning a longer trip and didnt want to get hung out changing on the road. I have been wondering about the Shinkos. I read 3 posts that they like them then read a couple they dont think the mileage is what it should be,

Search some of the threads for "tool loan" or "valve tool" You may have to search the 2nd Gen side. Right now it escapes me who has the couple of kits that were available. You pay shipping, and for whatever shim you use out of kit I think. You probably will find that you will be able to probably swap around maybe 40% of your shims. I didnt open your spread sheet. But you do have the chart right? If cyl measures X and has 280 shim you need to put a XXX shim in. -
I dont think I have ever really had to put it down. I rode mini bikes and stuff when I was young, and of course we all liked that huh. But later a couple of my brothers had bikes and took me for rides. Not the scare the hell out of you kind, but calm introductions to the sport. My mom was sooo scared my closest brother was going to get killed on that "death trap" 750 Honda she just worried all the time he rode it. Turns out she should have worried about the illegally parked steel truck on the corner where he was a school safety patrol and his LTD. I loved the show Then Came Bronson I guess and the opening statement where the guy says where you going. Bronson says something to the effect of "down the road" and the motorist wishes it could be him. I just enjoy being able to do something that probably 80% of folks dont enjoy.

Not to sure whats involved in the first gen vs a second. But I can tell you if its anything like it, removal of fairings/leg cowls, draining radiator etc. You might as well just find/borrow a tool and git'r done. Set them more toward the high side of limits as they tend to close the gaps. Flyingfool is making some tools up, but may not have them done just yet. There are a few out there on a lend/borrow deal. -
Neat find. The trunk on that thing looks like one I had on a dresser I built back in the 80"s. It came from a company called "Custom Dressers". Made some dang nice bags, trunks light bars etc. Can you guys up there register an antique bike with say the tag thats on there? Here in Fla if you have an antique car/bike you can register with old type tag like that. They just give you up to date sticker. Now the faring on that thing looks like they just stuck something on there. Huge gap by headlight and seems to stick up a bunch.

I put the Michelin Commander 2's on over 15K ago, and they look like they should do at least another 5 or more. The Michelin for the front does not come in the OEM size. You have to get it in like a 130/90 vs the 150/80. Some say it gives a tad better slow speed feel. I honestly dont think I can tell. I think trying to get the white walls you may be limiting your choices, not alot of companies make them. Now if you look into sizes to fit the Harley's you'll probably find them. Personally if I have to buy them for the car, I turn the white walls in. I dont like cleaning them at all.

Yes, but par 36 bulbs come in 35w & 55w. Mine had 35w bulbs in it and not set up on a relay and you can see what kind of strain on system. I leave mine on all the time.

Tim Taylor would be proud my friend.

A couple years ago when I changed my tires I went ahead and did the spline service. I missed getting it back on the engine side a few times. I invented some new words too. Stevie Wonder has a better chance of getting it to line up than I did.

By patch cable are you referring to the lower cable that plugs into the bike? When I first got the bike I noticed the coil cable would get to oscillating and wind would get it blowing around in circles and get bigger and more violent. I solved it by putting a simple clip for a security badge on it and clip it to my belt loop or jacket or whatever is close by.

If you are running 50w lights in the passing light bar you need to be running it thru a relay and off a dedicated power wire. If you are running it thru the OEM wiring harness you are asking for trouble. The fuse was still working, but you can see what was going to happen right?

Cool Thanks for your much needed support of this fight. Way to many of our family and friends are effected by this. By all means if anyone would like some answers 1-800-227-2345 Its a real live person!!

Why are the ones for the Shorty helmets soooo much more. I really only want the mic part, as I will use ear buds for hearing.
-
I'll have to read up on that. Do you loose the hi/low functionality? Its about the same as what I have invested in the HID.

Not to hijack or anything but has anybody seen the "new" Yamaha SR400? Looks like straight out of the 70"s

NOPE Like I said its for when its broke. Or my buddy with his HD comes to visit. LOL Actually my wife works for the American Cancer Society, and her job is to organize and put on 4 local fundraising events called "Relay For Life". They are 12hr events and take a lot of banners, signs, paperwork and stuff like that. So if you can imagine trying to load all this stuff in a SUV or pickup, then unload at the event, then reload it all. The next week or possibly the week after do it all over. Its much easier to load it once in the trailer and not have to swap it in and out of the storage unit. Please look up you local Relay For Life event and participate if you can. They research ALL cancers and provide many local services and answers. The side point of this was if we were going to spend the coins I might as well get something useful if needed.

My guess Eddie is e-bay here.

Well found a good decent trailer last week. A bit more than I wanted to pay but I think a fair price based on what I have seen around. Its a 12x6 Carry on. Lowes use to sell them at one time, dont know if they do anymore or not. No dents, holes in exterior. 4 tie-downs in floor. I had to fix the alum lip on the ramp door as someone had taken it off, I think because the hinge was messed up. I think to load the bike I will have to take the windshield off though. Just dont think there is enough height.

I forget what a stock/standard type headlight for a bike is. I thought it was about 40/60w. All that sticks in my head is the Wagner bulb I put in mine was 80-100w. Man I like that thing. I have thoughts of running decent wires to the headlight and figuring out how to put a relay in the circuit maybe to make it work. Probably have to run 2 eh? One for low beam and one for high? Oh by the way, Jeff would you be up to explaining to a fellow how to go about the "automatic" headlight turner on'er thing if needed?

Checked with Nationwide. Over 875. I would hate to see what it would be if a guy had bad credit, crummy driving record and tickets. Why there is such a difference in some of these rates is beyond me. Maybe because they figure you only get to ride 6 months or less.
