I can only imagine how that fender is going to act in a heavy rain storm. Thats an expensive bike no matter weather you like it or not.

HELP. rstd quit on me.
djh3 replied to rutman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My suspicions lead me to think there is more at work here than battery troubles. Possibly, but if its killing the battery you will probably need to start looking at voltage regulator and stator. -
Stupid stuff like that is why my forehead is flat I think. Glad you found it.

If it looks like that picture, we definitely have better looking bikes. Uckh But different strokes I guess. And some thing the Vision is ugly

H-4 bulbs for headlight
djh3 replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A point of note on the higher power headlight bulbs. they are 80/100 watt and there by draw more power. Part of the reason I shyed away from mine was this power draw, I went HID. I am thinking about going back but if I do I am thinking about running new wire for power supply via a relay for the different beams. -
Here is a simular type charger. They are called "float" chargers to get away from the "brand name" thing. Here is another. You would have to install your connector though.

I think thats what I said in the other post. I had done exactly that after lowering my forks in the triple tree. I didnt know it at the time but thru leing the passing lights rest on the fender and moving them around the wires got up into the stops and got pinched. Mine blew a fuse, so I fixed that. then was fine then a few days later pop gone again. What I remember about his telling of connecting the passing lights he used the high beam as the power source for the lights. Which would only allow those light to work with the high beam on if I'm Not mistaken. which completely opposite of how the dealer wires them. I wire them thru a relay and use the power supply from the aux (cig socket) to trip the relay. Now I know you say it is on a 15amp fuse etc. but here is a possibility its just plain drawing to much power. double check the bulbs. If they happen to be 55w they are probably drawing to much power. Most of the fog lights bulbs when you go to replace them are 55w, you have to be watchful to find 35w jobs.

Yo, Adrian, I did it! (Passing lamp install)
djh3 replied to Dale124's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
OH yea running them wires can be a PIA. I was doing some work up front. I think lowering the forks in the trip tree. I got everything put back together and I was pretty proud as that was no easy job. Then a few days later I lost passinglighs, turn signal with blown fuse. Took a bit to find. but the way the wires were routed up in front they got pushed into the steering stops and pinched the wires. That my friend was a mess to fix. -
misbehaving odometer
djh3 replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are 2 trip odo. But as mentioned they only go to 1000 miles (maybe km in your case) I use to set my #2 for oil changes and found it just rolled over,, so thats no good. About all its good for is I run one for fuel load and the second if I am tracking mileage for the day. Otherwise its pretty much useless for me. -
How will the Venture do at altitude?
djh3 replied to alien_bug's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Your a mile high or more in Denver. I you go out and walk fast around the hotel say, your going to get winded faster. Same goes for your scoot. There just aint as much air to burn. So basicly in Denver, your running a bit rich. You robably couldnt adjust it all out without a jet change. Besides you mentioned your going to be at a different locatio and altitude tomorrow and you would have to do it all over again. -
I had that radio on ano the bike. I did however add a 10watt amp\eq and had 4.5 speakers. Now depending on how your g king to listen to it. The speakers that come with it are junk. Everything sounds like its comming out of a tin can. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HIFI-Mini-Car-Motorcycle-Audio-Amplifier-Two-channel-DC-12V-AMP-/131236113996?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e8e482e4c&vxp=mtr

Yo, Adrian, I did it! (Passing lamp install)
djh3 replied to Dale124's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
If you installed it per the yamaha instruction I bet you cut a scotch lock tapping power from the headlight for you 35w ea passing lights. Removing the tank is easy, especially if you are under 1\2 tank. Besides then you could install and ignition by pass relay to help save your switch. Dont get us wrong. You have tackled a tricky job. I remember the 1st time I. Took the fairing apart. Man was I scared. You have done a good job, but we are just trying to give you some advice to preclude problems don the road. -
I have had the same glare problem. I had some carbon fiber mylar and put it on there. I thought it looked better than the cut off can koozy. Still was not what I was looking for. My son a few months back was telling me of painting wheels on cars with this plasti dip stuff. Kind of a spray rubber pain. We use to years ago put a simular product on pliers and stuff but it was a dip on product. So I had gas cap off the other day and took itover. This is what I can up with. I use electrical tape and taped off around the side to leave some chrome around edge.

You have power on the bike, IE: lights, horn signal etc, but will not fire? Or you have power at the injector? I dont see the fuse marked injector blowing and still having power. I think possibly if it has not thrown a code, best bet is a pinched or shorted wire. It shorts out so fast direct to ground it kills power before the system runs diagnostics. Could be a broken sidestand switch inside or same with clutch I suppose. Spring broken and when you move it say a piece of spring shorts out against something inside. To many variables to sit here and tell you each one. Has the tank been off or chrome or something added prior to the SNAFU?

I can tell you its not in Fla. Does that help? 99 miles is a pretty fer piece.
-
Yup my thought too. What is a 25-35 radio?????? Its kind of like asking what do you think about the blue car on e-bay.
-
You can always get a friend to hold on to it while you crank it over.

Hes off to go ride in the mountains. What better birthday. Have a good one Mike.
-
OH MY I hate to be captain obvious, but there is a dead short. Not having a wire diagram is a disadvantage. First thing I would do is as best you can follow the wires back from the injectors and I know its going to go into a jumbo harness, but best you cant follow it around and see if its pinched somewhere. Sorry not more help.

Jeff, I made a "engineered" sun shield that should help with just about anything other than a frog choker. Someone on here gave me the idea. Its made out of index card box from office max. I use a Garmin 765t. I selected it because I could make a route on my PC and import it to the GPS. that feature is fading fast from all but the really expensive ones.

this should pretty much do it. http://www.rammount.com/Gallery/images/RAM-HOL-UN10BU/RAM-HOL-UN10BUIU2.jpghttp://www.rammount.com/Gallery/images/RAM-HOL-UN10BU/RAM-HOL-UN10BU.jpg

I think that hose is just sort of a vent/breather hose to equalize the air box. Where does it go? does it look to supply vacuum or air anywhere. I think it goes down to the AIR widgit thing under the bike for emissions. So what WAS the fix?

You all ride safe there Brake pad and crew.
