Best I can tell it should just pull out of the rearend housing. I cant see any snap rings or anything. I just had one apart, but I dont remember taking that end of the driveshaft out. -

I would be afraid to use the razor blade. I just know I would slip and foul things up majorly. Credit card is my weapon of choice on that sort of thing. Usually wrapped in a paper towel to see it that will work first to keep from scratching. -

I like it. I'm not a big chrome fan either. Takes time away from riding. You might try heating it some with a hair dryer some to soften up the sticky. Or you could just park it out in the sun here in Fl for awhile its been in the upper 90's and heat index 104. -

Its funny. Back in the day when I messed with drag cars and race cars with mechanical lifters we adjusted them hot. As I can only imagine that is where you want to have the lash, is at operating temp. Now for whatever reason motorcycles now that you mention it are set cold to my knowledge. Part of it might be you couldn't get this thing apart fast enough to check them hot. Oh it will be hot enough to cook you while your trying to take it apart alright. If I buy another bike I am seriously looking at something with hyd lifters and non-adjustable stuff. Unlike the harleys that are supposed to be a hyd lifter then when something or another goes south you have to change them out to an adjustable push rod. I forget what it is now, but a buddy of mine that is versed on them was telling me about it. Maybe its a valve job around 40K I dunno. I just thought it wa odd the fix was to "cut" the push rod to get it out of the head. -
Having read a lot of these "whining" threads here is what I have sorted out. If its at one certain RPM or speed usually around 35-45 mph range in 3rd or 4th its clutch (basket) related. If its constant at highway speeds it more than likely rear differential related. At your highway speed and it making noise say 60 in 4th, give it some throttle. does it get louder? Now at same speed just ease off throttle a little does it get better? then its probably in the diff.

It use to be that way with Tiger direct vs Comp USA. Then they bought out Comp USA and because they were same company had to charge sales tax. Dont be suprised if it gets changed here soon as the states are looking at ways to gain back lost revenue on online purchases.

I read the article on Yahoo the other day about this bike. Pics and all the hype. I honestly don't see it looks anything different from what they put out3-4yr ago. Maybe the radio stuff like you said, but what did they add that would entice someone to plunk down mo money for same bike as a couple years ago? Oh and about 2 items down from the "big" press release info on this bike was a article on a HD recall for ignition switches turning themselves to "acc" because of engine vibration above 5600 rpm. I realize the FL bikes don't have a "key" ignition anymore but a lot of folks don't. Had to laugh 5600 rpm engine vibrates key enough to turn to acc. Really vibration on a HD??? But I will say the retail price on this bike is WAY more appealing than what I saw for the high dollar Indian they just released.

First off bike needs to be completely cold. So I doubt you could take it to the dealer in the AM and get it that afternoon. Maybe, but I have suspicions he would actually do the job. I know I went slow and it took me 2 days. but having done it no I would say I would still have a days work invested in it. By the time you take the gas tank off, remove the left lower, drain the radiator, remove the upper plumbing and valve covers and the forward dog bone your at about 2 hr or so at least. I always run thru the valves a couple times. By this I mean I will go thru check, change the shim if needed and go back thru and recheck to make sure I get the same readings I got once finished. I would say a minimum of 6 hours. I guess if you took it to the dealer first thing in am, he got it in and stripped off the plastics and put a fan on it, by lunch he may be able to do the valves. -
I think by measuring the links on the shock to the swing arm. If I'm not mistaken the leveling links to lower are longer than OEM.

Usually they have like a timer relay I think. They run 5 seconds or so then off. What you can do is put your thumb over the end to create some pressure. Then release the pressure and try that a couple of times.

see what they get for the service agreement

As mentioned. There should be a cig lighter type plug on the left hand side of fairing, right under the step down. It is kind of hiding up under there. As mentioned if doing a direct wire you need the manufactures correct wire, you can not simply cut off the plug of the cig type adapter and wire it in.

The RSV is and has been a good bike. For the type of bike it is (touring) I think a guy would be hard pressed to find one that would say merge onto the freeway quicker and less effort. GW might beat it and then would sound like a space shuttle as it woshed by.

Says 1500 lb so should be good. It looks alot like my Sears jack. I had built a wood frame type thing originally for my 900 vulcan, then a metal rack sort of affair. when I got the RSV and got to looking at the Carbon one frame I found my pre-built one I had only needed slight modification. You will need a Carbon one adapter or build some such adapter as the actual frame is way to narrow. It wont hardly pick up on anything under the bike. If I am lifting way up like a tire change or such I use a strap around the bike and the lift to help steady it. If I'm just doing oil change I dont go that high.

I have one Gaucho as does Barry I think. Only takes about 15 min next time we have a meet and eat.

I dont need a bike with 180 cid motor. If it will run 80-90 mph and get you out in traffic and up the mountain I'm good. If you have to have the biggest baddest motor you need a Boss hoss. I saw one of those with a 572 ci motor in it. The CCT while has sort of angular lines on the edges, the bags still have the rounded "classic" styling. I will give you the Vision has to "grow" on you. since the GW went with all the plastic filler stuff I have not been a fan.

I think the clogged vent lines could be an issue. Depending on what specifically they go to it could effect off idle or acceleration. I was reading a post a fellow was having the dreaded fuel pump problem. It would run but starve out and act like the pump was bad. Turned out the vent line was clogged for the tank (up front of tank on top) and caused the pump to not be able to pump.
-
So far I have done a few to my bike and a couple others. I cant say I have experienced significant performance increases, but the idle is smoother, and acceleration is I guess more even would be the way I would describe it.

H-4 bulbs for headlight
djh3 replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The headlight bulbs look to be an option to the actual higher watt. Now if they actually look that way and produce it I dont know. I have had a couple of the other 65=85 or whatever bulbs in the past and they dont measure up. On the fog/driving lights. yes I have seen those, but lack a sponsor to purchase them. $300 for lights just aint in my budget. -
I kind of like the red bike in the background.

There has been a few discussions around about the wrap. Amazonthis outfit has steel wool, which I think would last much better. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNxKO18I-3I]And a video[/ame] to show you how.

I personally am glad to hear its up and running for you. Bad part is we really dont know what the problem was. But its fixed and you get to ride before the white stuff flys. which this year sometimes looks like late Jan. I will miss the 3 e-mails a week but get out and ride.
