Yup me to Randy. Exactly the same reasoning I have stayed away from rings and mechanical work. I was a aircraft maint troop also on big birds C-141's. Saw the safety films where a guy lost a finger. then I was assigned a Sgt to train with. I forgot my ring one day and he showed me his hand, yup missing the ring finger. He told me some story but it got in my head. 2 or so years later I found out heck he was missing it as a kid, got caught in a hay bailer or combine or something. but it still put the picture in my head. I'm not even sure I could find my ring now.

You can probably disconnect the vent hose and put a longer one on and blow in it to pressurize it too, that would force fuel. But I don't think that's fun either.

my 96 rs rides to rough for my bad back
djh3 replied to worm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Let me throw out a question here that sort of falls into this area. Does any one wear a kidney belt, or back support/brace? My back is going on the fritz as I have some bad discs again. Although it is good today and was OK yesterday, tomorrow who knows. So i had rode with a back brace thing that was sort of elastic with a couple metal stays in the back part. But now I am investigating kidney belts for more support. I ran across more than a few threads that led me to a support called Back-A-Line Web Bike had a rite up on it and the fellow seemed pleasently suprised by it. Not cheap @ $45-50 or so, but it looks to actually have some merit to the claims with the lumbar support built in. Where as the kidney belts just seem to go around you. -

Dacheeda- you have any recomendations on back supports for riding. My back is giving issues again. I do have a utopia backrest. Somewhere I have a backbrace with gel padding and velro closure. Would a kidney belt be the same thing? -
While not the facet, the Mr Gasket I put in is almost the same size. So here is a write up I did and directions. I think the adapters and elbows may even work for you. The facet you shouldn't have to trim off the plastic outer part like I did with the Mr Gasket.

Boy now theres a switch. A superseded part that looks better built. I would think by now they would have figured out how to build them as thin as pop cans +1 on the Purolator

I guess my little Sears charger is an antique. Well I know its 30yr old or more. But I use it alot to power up relays to check out and lights etc. It brought more than one flat battery up in tthe last 4yr or so. Sooo I wonderguys if it has to sense 7v or whatever, could a 9v battery say be connected to fake it out?

The only pencil type gauge I own anymore is in the OEM tool kit. And I wouldnt trust it to put air in the mower tires. Those things are terribly unreliable. I have one like the blue covered one in the link minus the filler part. Was over $100 15yr or more ago. I sure dont want it bangin around in the saddle bags, and dont have the room typically either. From what I have experienced with the digital gauges I have purchased most have been within 1/2 lb of each. Like Dan said you just need to know it will read the same every time and where it reads for what you want. If its 5 high thats where it needs to be.

So what was the "pre-filter" Just a foam wrap around the filter? Or was it something that was separate?

Help with fairing decision

Memphis shades may be the least expensive route. Not sure but worth a check. -
Bob Myers seems to be pretty versed in these. He is upgrading to the 20's though and may have a pair for sale there. I was looking pretty hard at them, but have had some minor disasters lately.

Just for giggles, is there any kind of adjustment on the windshield? Like where it bolts tot the forks/struts are they slotted? Maybe repositioning it more upward would change the air flow. -
Dont know if this thread will help you out. I had some of the same questions.

Possible Timing Chain Noise
djh3 replied to Chaharly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good train of thought on the cover or heat shields. They can make some awfully funny and loud sounds. the valve covers are actually 2 part. One the actual cover the other the aforementioned chrome covers and rail pieces. -
What about these? 100w

Help with fairing decision
djh3 replied to SundayRider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I dont really notice to much turbulant air from under fairing/gas tank area on the Venture. With the leg fairing and lowers in the rain (easiest way to tell where wind goes) only knees and top of leg gets wet. Tank and chest etc stay dry, well unless its raing pretty good. Even when I added the fairing on the Vulcan it was pretty much knees down. No leg fairings on it. -
Hmm The way I see it if they wanted to update it they have had from oh I dunno say 2009 or more to figure it out. I mean that would have gave them a 10yr run then could have done something. Just my thoughts.

Dont know. My 96 cummins once up to temp goes between like 190 and 140 or something. Its wilde. you can watch the temp gauge go up and down. Its a mechanical fan by the way.

Does yours have the "lowers" on the forks? The triangle plexiglass things, mine are mounted to the passing light bar. Those probably would help out redirecting the air. they did on my 900 Kawasaki. A bat wing will certainly change the way the air flows. -
I'm not familiar what year they made these or anything so I will guess it is electronic ignition and carb. How does the derby mount? Possibly is an attaching part for it pushing the choke plate or restricting? Is there a hose or housing that connects to the derby? Sometimes they look like a cover but yet then connect to air hoses that go under the seat or tank, like the RSV. If so maybe a restriction back up stream? Or is it like a sportster and just open behind it? Are you sure its the correct air cleaner and filter assy for the bike?Just throwing ideas at ya.

there comes a point where it just aint worth it. Ya know what I mean? Even if say it gave you 5% better fuel milage, how ling would it take to pay for itself and then start making it pay for changing? Kind of like these hybrid cars. They are 4K more that a normal car of same model and the figures are something like you would have to be me like me and keep something 15yr to make it worth it. I have however thought about putting the ICE stuff in the vehicles.

Couple of the ads I saw were, $32 for the flush and $39 or there bouts for 1/2 gal of fluid. Better be dang good stuff.
