Air horn inside left lower fairing... thoughts?
djh3 replied to Mad Dog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yup my one stebil is mounted there. Sorry I dont really remember how then dagum rivet goobers come out. I think you actually turn them a little like 3 turns or so like a screw then you may have to "lift" the center screw part up to unlock it and then pop the whole gizmo out. -

Poll time: Do you like or dislike loud pipes? COME ONE - COME ALL!!

I will run my RK pipes around town and shorter trips. When we get ready for the 400+ mile days the oem pipes go back on. I did have some 2 strokes with expansion chambers. -

Don the only time I have used USB is on the PC to maily upload routes I have made. I know it will charge off there, but as far as actually run off the Mini usb (plug that goes into the unit) and a USB plugged into a charger port on bike I do not know. I know when I plug it into the PC it asks if importing data I think. Sort of like what mode you want it to operate in. I just got a cord with the cig type plug and went from there. I would almost just cut it off and hard wire it in if I didn't think there was some kind of voltage reducer or something in that end that plugs into the cig port. -
If it was me and I thought I wanted to go the east coast route. I think about as far south as I would go is where Brakpad is. Actually Melbourne is more what I what I had in mind. Its a bit less expensive up that way.

Yea mine too. but the traffic thing is about useless IMOP. It halfazz works in and around Tampa Bay area depending on where you are, Orlando it is like its 20 min behind actual traffic conditions. Mine is plugged into the lighter socket. Here is a sample. -
I am about an hour an half south off US 27 from where you are. Small town called Sebring. Some good deals around, depends on what your looking for and price range. Almost dead middle of state, less thanb2 hours either way and your @ either the atlantic east coast or gulf of mexico west coast.

Don does your cable have a large rectangle black piece on the cable like 8 or so inches fron the end? Thats the reciever for the traffic deal. Not always a useful bit of info as not all areas support it. If you decide to go wwith a different cable let me know as I ordered one for mine as the clips on the side plug thing broke and its a pain to disconnect. So I bought the mini usb cable and it works great. Now I just leave that cable on the bike. I think I gave a few bucks for it not the 20 or so garmin wants. -

How did you get Hooked - Picture of your first motorcycle?
djh3 replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
Heck I dunno where I got hooked. I remember the story of my brother riding his Triumph 175 or something from McDill AFB in Tampa Fl to Detroit Mi bac around 56 or 58. I just thought that would be so cool. Then came Bronson was popular on TV then and I just loved that idea. Around 73 or whatever when the 750 hondas came out my other "normal" brother bough one. I would ride with him whenever I could. I rode for hodaka dealer for awhile ace 100. My first bike I owned was an RD 350 yamaha. Looked sort of like this one. -

The inner core will leak if not tight. Also by chance are you runnig the balance beads? I do and every once in awhile when I check the pressure one them buggers will get caught and make it leak. Hope the shop get it fixed for you. -
Some (many) Maintanance questions
djh3 replied to Motiv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would have to find the thred on DOT tire codes. But seems to me its like 3 maybe 4yrs on tires. And the Avons seem to have problems at the bead area off and on. My thoughts on the steering head is if its not notchy they are more than likley ok. But being you got it where it is in teardown, the bearings are maybe what 10 to 14 bucks? Put some new ones in and lube them with good grease and youll never have an issue there to worry about. -
Captinjoe, when out west and temp drops like10-15 degrees and wind picks up. Look for sky to turn green and big roll of clouds. Then its time to look for a hole to hide in.

Shoot, if you change load or air press in rear shock it can through the headlight off. I found a write up on how to aim the headlight. Because my driveway slopes and no flat spot I have to go across the drive for level shot. I put a line of tape across a piece of plywood I had and aimed it.

Valve Adjusting Question
djh3 replied to wannarsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I roll mine over thru twice or so to check and make sure I get the same reading. carefull with the cast tool, there have been instances of getting one in a bind and breaking it. -
2010 late I think is when they retro fited air ducts and fans to redirect air flow. 2011 on had the reflow from the factory. I understand they have plenty of torque and run pretty smoth. I have also heard some chatter about flimsy feeling lids or something. I think for the rite price if I could test ride one first it would be a player. I know I have seen a few down here in Fla with the pipes wrapped in the header wrap to try to help with the heat thing. Complaints on the radio reception and antenna on them also. But they are bluetooth I think, but wired intercom.

Some (many) Maintanance questions
djh3 replied to Motiv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I changed my fork oil to 10w. Seems to help on the ride, and front dive. I would say if they are not leaking why change? Valves you kind of need to know whats in it. Sure you can buy a "kit" but youll end up with a bunch you dont need. Measure what you got and only order what you need. Chances are you will only need a couple. Depending on your skills it may take you longer to disassemble and drain radiator than to actually check the valves. Same goes for rear drive, change the fluid in the diff. If seals arent leaking should be good to go. If brake/clutch fluid is brownish it probably could use a change and flush. Crush washers on oil pan?? You talking about the one for the drain plug? Some change them regularly. I changed mine once since I have got it. It had 7500 miles and now has 35k. Check the date codes on your tires to make sure they are like not more than 3 yr old I think is the recomended. -
I would tend to agree on the filter causing the pump to work harder. So I have a question maybesomeone can answer. We have all heard and some of us have seen what the current 10% ethonol fuel can mess up. So how disasterous is this stuff to the filter? Should we maybe be looking at more frequent changes on them? Sorry dont mean to hijack.
