  1. You will get the most out of your warranty that way. Also not good on batteries last I knew to sit once put in service.
  2. 2 options on the hangers. You can buy or make the "hockey stick" sort of L shaped brackets. Or the esy way is 3/4 P clamps or some call them adel clamps found in the electrical dept @ home improvement store. A like 1/2" long 1/4x20 bolt to hold it to the hole. The clamp goes around the bar at back of bike around saddlebags. Once bags are on you cant even see the P clamp. Your biggest expense will be the V-twin mfg large clamps @ 40 bucks or so. I am not convinced I like mine on long trips, to much rasp for me. So I use a stailess steel worm clamp.
  3. As it so happines, I am due an oil change. So guess I will look at them close when I get to the parts store.
  4. Double check and make sure it is coolant and not clutch fluid in that location. If its running down that pipe I would guess maybe there is an O ring on it that has started to leak.
  5. +1 or more on battery being toast. It will have to be fully charged before they can test it. Even then you can get it charged up and it hold a charge, but a broken plate inside will short out and its like a dead short and will not turn bike over. Any idea how old the battery is? The least expensive place I found was bohannon battery.com I think under 90 bucks shipped to the door. I would not order a new one until your ready to start ride season. Also if the battery is bad, and you start it off a jumper then run the bike and the battery will not store a charge will draw a very large current draw on the charging system. Which as you can probably guess from all the stator and rr write ups is not a good idea.
  6. I agree with ear plugs of some sort on long trips. I actually use earbuds pluged into the comm system to knock out the wind and side noise. I also have molded earplugs for music, but have been leary with wearing them as Im afraid I might not hear some side noise I should. I only have a 1/2 and 3/4 bell. So probably not a good judge for you. A modular would stand to reason might be noisier, because it has not only the visor to let wind noise, but the section that unlocks and opens.
  7. For a "standard" type bulb I have used a sylvania bp 1210 I think is the number. From NAPA it was around $20-25. 80w low 100w high beam, nice crisp white light. I swapped to an HID a couple years ago and the light is very good. Also when I get on the computer instead of tablet I can link some "frog eye" style led aux lights. I have not got them mounted up yet but I am going to mount off the crash bars. Try a search on e-bay for 30w cree led lights. They look kind of like the ones the dual sport guys run (piaa)
  8. YUP put a dime or small coin on it and put the cover back on. They are rubber freeze plugs sort of thing. They are sort of held in by a tang on the back of the faux fins. So something to take up the gap a tick and it will be fine for a couple years. I think they are a couple bucks or so each. To remove it take an old spark plug and screw it in and it will pull the rubber plug.
  9. I dont think anybody that dont work for them likes them. My question is how crazy was Ross Peroit back in the 80's when he wanted to do a flat tax? Not really all that silly now huh? I was active duty military almost 7 years or better before my mom realized that I still payed income tax. She thought military did not pay income tax. I had to explain that only in combat do you not pay. So whats got the feathers ruffled now? You make to much and owe them?
  10. Well the UNI is NU-3262 The K&N is YA1399. I can find the Uni for around $40. Other than this one the K&Ns look to be going around $80. The one I linked is on e-bay and says used. It only shows one, but I would e-mail the guy and see if that is for the pair. It is used but for $40 I would say thats OK. Mine look like this.
  11. Bert, money wise I think you will be happy. Dont be to quick to throw out your OEM muffs. I have a pair of RK I will swap on and off with the oem jobs. Longer trips I just dont care for the roar of the RK. But to each his own. But be sure to take some longer trips and take the boss too. Go for a couple hours and see if you still like it.
  12. Mine are OEM black plastic. I scoured the net for like a year pricing K&N. I found a set on amazon fot about $65 I think. They can be pricey so look around. If you look at the chrome top you can kind of see why those filters are shorter and dont have that rise on the top. I would have to look at the K&N aand see if they would work with the chrome cover units. But on the site they only list one filter.
  13. LOL I had a young airman one night we were refuling my c141. He was running the back hose and I was up front supervising so I could see whole aircraft. We had just disconn hose and he took off running to wingtip and sat down. It was like 15 deg in Oklahoma @ 2am. Here he is pulling his boots off and sockts. I went over to see what the heck? The socks were stuck "on" and burning his feet up. I laughed pretty good for a few minutes and poked fun. Then I chewed his butt out for operating a possible ignition source while we were refueling. Geeze some people just dont think.
  14. I would say if you can afford the Michelin Commander 2 go for it. I had a pair on my 09 ang got over 17k on them. Could have got more, but had a trip scheduled with wife and wanted error on safe side. When I changed them I went back to a oem size front. LOL After riding the 130 for a couple years I had to just about learn to turn in and corner all over again. The 130 is definatly a good move in my book. I will go back to it next change.
  15. I took and measured how high I thought I wanted my windshield. I had awindshield off my 900 vulcan and it was a memphis shades. So I cut it off and modified it to fit the RSV. I missed it by about an inch to 2 inches in heighth. Get some head buffit, but its livable short trips, say an hour or so. She wears a 3/4 bell mag 8 as do I most time. Solo I have a 1\2 scorpion es100 or something with a hide away visor.
  16. Cool Glad your back safe. I wondered on the weather as previously mentioned. Our weather here has been sort of cockeyed the last couple weeks. And the fog up your way sonded like it was thick some days. You think Fla is boring on I 10, just wait for the part from Lousiana to mesquet texas.
  17. While I was in the USAF I had some thick wool socks issued. I wore my regular type cotton socks and then the wool over them. A couple years ago I found some under armor socks that actually keep feet pretty dang warm. Or you could go the battery type hunting socks.
  18. Also as a side note. I found out that if you have the chrome cover looking things on the OEM air box, they will not accept a OEM yamaha filter. I forget exactly what the interfearenc is. But I serviced a friends that had these chrome ones on it and I had a like new pair of OEM off my 09. They wouldn't fit the covers back on. The one on the right is the one that came out of the chrome one.
  19. What I noticed going up the most atleast for me in the last say oh 3 times I have had to shop insurance. Weather for bike or cages, un or under insured vehicles. On my 96 PU I cut the comp down to like 1000 or 1500 deductible. My uninsured is almost what the rate is. Never more true than here in Fla. Those of us in the middle of the state are still paying for those that were wiped out because they built on the beach in Port Charlotte or the east coast back when Charlie came thru.
  20. I have never figured out how in my 6000 lb truck they can make me wear a seat belt. On the motorcycle I have an option of wearing a safety device? Daaaaa On the Obamacare thing, its totaly understandable. While I was active duty military (gov provided health care) on base we were required to wear helmets, shoes etc. They told us thar even though Oklahoma state law did not require a helmet, our health care may not pay for our injuries if not wearing a helmet. In a way it makes sense. If you dont care enough about protecting yourself, why should they. If you sign off on your insurance that you dont want to be hooked up to machines for 10yr or something fine. In nonhelmet law states everyone pays for the higher "probability" of long term major head trauma recovery and life support. Just some observations.
  21. Lucky for Barry he has a Goldwing now so a little larger fuel capacity and MPG.

Dan rather than spend quite a bit on a new windshield I rummaged thru the garage and found a windshield off my 900 vulcan I had when I replaced it with a fairing. It was a Memphis shades Phat. I laid the RSV windshield on top after I measured about how high I wanted it. Then cut it off at the bottom and drilled holes to fit. With the tour deluxe I don't know what kind of options you might have if one of the less expensive replacement types will work and you can swap back and forth.
  23. Thats excellent PR if you ask me. Especially after some of the moaning and groaning I head at beginning of the year with guys trying to get Gerblings heated gear warranted. Its supposed to have a "lifetime" and I guess they sold and sold and now current owners of company say TS we didn't make that claim.
  24. WOW they are going to replace a10yr old helmet?? Sugested life of most helmets is only 5yr I think. Thats pretty good in my book. I had a fulmer years ago. Was a pretty comfy well fitting lid.
