Passenger Headset/RC Wires
djh3 replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have both sides of the 5 pins I think. If just the 5 pin plug is broke I can probably solder a new one in. I get them off ebay. How about something like this if the controler is junk. IMC passneger mic mute and volume control. Most show for a GW, but as long as its 5 pin they all work. -
Got a few pics. Clamps had to be clearanced to fit between cowl and bar to not rub. Pretty tight fit and will need some fine tuning it looks like. Here is the location.

Depends on how much you want to spend. In the regular battery price range, and AGM. The Deka gets good reviews. I got mine from Bohannon Battery. If you have the coin to go new age Cycle Gear has Lithium batteries. Pretty cool, a little more CCA if I remember right, and the box weighs almost as much as the battery. But they are pricey buggers. So how long did you have to wait in line to get that pic? When we were down @ Labor Day the line was like 30 min or something to "file thru" to get you moment for a pic. We stayed over on the Navy Base at Truman Anex. Sure seems further south than this point. But who knows for sure. Still its great day for a ride.

YEa me too on the motel. Pretty much my days of sleeping on the ground are done. Been there done that and it was so long ago the T-shirt has been cycled thru the rag to the round can file many many moons ago. But I can get a room for under $60 usually. We like the Asheville, Waynesville, Maggie Valley area, or possibly a trip up thru NY Finger Lakes area and into Canada.

Was busy today moving living room stuff around. We got a new piece of furnature to put th e tv, cable box and suround sound thing on. So I was pretty maxed out getting all that moved around and wired. Maybe I,will get a chance to sort of mock it up for a couple pics and post them.

I had some furniture for sale for about a week and a half thru the newspaper. (Yea some people still read them) Had a few bits and even a looker or 2. But no cash. So after almost 2 weeks in paper wife says she will throw it up on facebook locally. BANG she starts getting all kinds of messages and inquiries. All 3 pieces sold and gone in like 3 days. So maybe if you have the face book thing you can try that. Use your throw away e-mail for a response to place.

Shame on you. I dont blame her.

If you knocked the glaze off they should be OK. Now thw question about the brake fluid. How long have you had the bike? Have you changed the fluids? What color is it?

I guess Im different than most. If a fellow is asking 7800 for something, thats what he needs out of it. Is it worth that to me? I have learned nobody wants to pay you what you want for something or have it listed at. So you have to list everything higher than what you expect to get for it, just so you can lower the price,so they think they are getting over on you.

My high dollar Kuryakyn pegs look like ****** too. I figured it was because they get alot of road debris and sand blasted sort of. But they dont have big nicks, just the chro,me is fading and looks sort of whitish.

2nd Gen Valve Adjustment
djh3 replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got GREAT mileage out of the Michelin Commander 2 They don't make the OEM size for the front so you either go to the 130 or put something different on the front. I got over 17k on mine and I changed them because I had a fall trip to the mountains and didn't want to chance anything like rain and wife, more gear than usual and poor traction and....... you get the picture. Maybe the estimate is 2.5 hours for the valves, once they get all the stuff out of the way. Usually things that are included in a job are covered under the flat rate. Say you go in for a water pump that leaks. Manual says they have to drain the rad to change the pump. So that time is covered, same goes for changing the belt if its shot. Thats where they try to make up some of the "gravy" is on extra parts. Like twice what a tire should cost say.... Just sayin might be a bit high there. -
2nd Gen Valve Adjustment

We did !!! Only It was the other way I think, cold for that time of year. LOL Go figure. -
I wanted mine low, kind of like the lights in the GW lower cowls. Well its pretty dang tight between my front crash bars and the cowls. So the type of clamp they use was going to hit and then it would just saw its way into the plastic. So I have ground the edge back and narrowed it so when mounted it now has clearence. I made a little alum bracket to mount up on the right side but brake reservoir to mount a toggle switch and a push button into. The back of the light screws off. There is a set screw from the outside to position the light, and then one accessible from the inside that actually holds the clamp on to the light base. I really plan on doing some photos of the mod and posting.

TZ try this as a reminder. Tell him he is going to spend way more time cleaning bugs of that massive fender, and all those frilly thing a ma bobs off the seat and handlebars than he will riding it.

2nd Gen Valve Adjustment

I would say a definate 8-10. Partially because you need some special tools, and definate mechanical skills that will make it more tollarable. I would ask your dealer what all is included in his check. Because I cant think of a way to really "cheat" anything time wise. Also he should state he is going to put new gaskets, anti freeze etc. I would go ahead and put a set of plugs in it. -
Wire them things up off a relay to help reduce the load on your ignition switch.

My thanks go out to our Fla coordinators or the folks that seem to set things up most. Brake Pad and Miss Karen. Props to you.

I also had the Voyager in the running. But a few things made me back up and look again. Prices are good and the guys I have talked to that have had them for say 2 yr or so dont have many maint concerns. Heat is a big bitc# from some. Kawi fixed like the 2011 and 12 before delivery I think. But its kind of a patch up fix just blowing air somewhere else. I would highly recomend your buddy look @ a victory if he wants something newer. But maybe you should have him look towards the RSV or newer TD. We know how well these things run.

Well needed to get oil and filter for scoot. I was looking up deals as I got a new e-mail from Autozone. They have rotella t6 @ same price as wally world. So I went there and got my oil, and picked up a bosch filter too. Oh and there is a $5 mail in rebate to boot, so its even cheaper folks.

I have hooked them up off the battery charger for power in the garage with all the lights off. And they look pretty dang powerful. They have a low beam, a pulsating beam and a high beam. You have to cycle power to get from one step to the next. So what I did was got a small micro toggle switch from radio shack and wired in a momentary off push button. So that way I can just push the button to go up thru the settings. Of course your going to have to get both lights on the same beam at the same time and then connect power. But once you there it is all good. What are you running for passing lights if any?

OK if oil looks decent, I would go with a flush and refill of all the hyd. Clutch, brakes. Someone elses will have to fill you in on the type of fluid. I know the Second Gens take DOT 4. -
