  1. If its easy for you, its easy for the thief.
  2. So if I read that right Yamaha is the most reliable? Just about all the metrics beat out the Milwaukee bikes? OH my they must be thinking p some kind of explanation. I did read an article a couple weeks back about "american made" bike reliability and problems. Not even what you might call "reliability" To me that is something that is going to have me brokedown on the side of the road. But just issues with fit finish and minor stuff that dont work right. Radio, saddle bag lids etc. I can tell you HD was not at the top of the not many problem list here either.
  3. I have these I just mounted up. They have a low, high and a flash I guess for accident avoidance. I have been to chicken to run tat mode for fear the law would hassle me. Looks like a very similar light but the one you show has brackets all around it. Kind of adventure bikeish style.
  4. I got a boatload of like 280 and up shims I can donate. LOL I was going to say put some "slip marks" on the bolt heads. If they are still lined up when you get it back, I would bet money they have not touched it. If its missing the center fastener to hold the lower cowls together Its a fair guess they got at least as far as removing them to drain the radiator.
  5. One problem I see is your going to have to A: mount it B: charge it I didnt feel to input signal was loud enough from the GPS and Phone when plugged into the AUX port. I have a Boosteroo so I tried that inline. Works great and improves the bass some and clears it up so you dont have to run as much input volume which somehow seems to distort when you jack the phone way up. So same problem, Boostroo works off a couple 4a batteries. And I didnt want the boostaroo mount and dismount when I parrked the bike etc. So I mounted it uner the fairing. So what do I do for power now? I ordered a Waterproof DC/DC Converter 12V Step Down to 3V converter. I built a battery eleminator and soldered this to it. I used a small dowel and wrapped wire around it and soldered this gizmo in. Hook up to keyed power under fairing and wa-la power. Just sayin, if you mount your little bluetooth thin up under and power it, it will be there when you come out of the store or motel and you wont have to turn it on or worry about charging. Who knows they may have some kind of DC charger they build for them.
  6. I will also say as far as I know its the 99 up RSV and Tour Deluxe that have the ignition switch issue.
  7. The reason the one in Sacramento coast $2 is it was in Calif. How do you mount it up Puc? My buddy bought one @ cycle gear that was magnetic. It also had a regular strap on it for sport bikes with the plastic tanks I supose. Lynn mounted it up on his Sporty in Daytona and headed back to NC. First gas stop the bag had blown off once and he caught it, after that he allways used the strap as a "safety" belt. They are great for the odds and ends stuff, extra glasses, wallet while riding, gloves sometimes I have even put the rain jacket in there.
  8. I have used the long version since I bought the bike. I just got back from the parts store and got the shorter one and so far looks OK. Ran the bike 10 min and so far no leaks. But I didnt have any leaks yesterday either until it sat over night. I can say that I looked the Mobil 1-110 over and it appears to still have the "dished" threads. Sucks though, I have been running the very good gold Purolators for about $7 ea. To jump to the Mobil filter they jump to $13.
  9. I dont know. I didnt measure it. But where he is showing the threads concave the Bosch is flat. I got up today and went out garage anad had a puddle of oil under it. I checked the emblems to make sure nobody swapped it out over night. Nope still a RSV. So I can only imagine not enough"pull" on it to seat? I also just back from the store and a brand new l14610. I cant even get it started on the threads. It hit the frame up above. So I dented the end of the can a little to see if I could get started. Nope want to cross. So now $12-14 into filters that dont work and I'm heading back to the store for a 3rd. MAN I do NOT want to put a fram MC filter on this.
  10. Hey just happened across this thread. I just changed my oil today. I had got a filter from Autozone it is a Bosch 3323, which is supposed to be a direct cross. But where these filters "dip" it is flat. It was a trick and a half to get it up and straight to get it threaded straight.
  11. I searched craigslist in my area. Found someone letting go of a cortech stackable job. I dont even think they make them any more. But the magnets are really strong. One bag is larger than the other so you can adjust to what size bag you want to take. I have been using the smaller I think they call it 10 liter bag. This i it on my 900 vulcan with half of it.
  12. I built a Y cable to go up under the fairing. So phone or GPS mp3 what have you play on AUX.

    My dilemma...

Well a couple ideas popped into my head. Cutback on the amount of trips, and see if financially that works for you. I'm sure you probably already looked at this option. Where abouts in Fla is your ship reunion? My brother in law goes to his most every year I think. He was on an ammo supply ship back in the mid 50's I would guess. If you need a place to toss the tent look me up. Nuttin fancy, but got a cement pond and some dry land. As far as "starter" bikes, I have a friend that just loves those 1100 Hondas. For a bigger bike he says they are pretty maneuverable. To me a 650 would be if'y for long distances. I had a 900 Vulcan that was OK one up and served me well. Sportys are good if you get the "low" model. They are an inch or so lower in the saddle. The 883's are widely available and lots out there. (quick check of CL and found 5 2000 or newer under 3K) Lots of gals ride them. I would agree, now is getting prime time for buying. Good luck in your endeavor what ever it may be. Let us know when your heading down to Fla, maybe we can arrange a meet and eat.
  15. Shoot it looked fine. I think the idea is to just push against the tire anyways.
  16. I learned a long long time ago. Black vehicles unless trailer show queens are a PIA. I never had a black vehicle for this reason. Back in high school a buddy had a really nice 69 chevelle SS Black white stripes. Car was awesome looking rite after he finished cleaning it. by the time he would drive to the local hang out, it seemed like it collected all the dust and grit in the county. I kind of like silver. The black on my 09 RSV is bad enough.
  17. I got grapes, and spring rolls.
  18. Well if it does the same as on the RSV it may help slow speed manuvering. But here is what I use to do way back when the wite letter tires were popular and I couldnt get them in the size I needed. I just got a white paint pen from the model car section of department store. Clean the letters on sidewall with some alchol and paint them. You may have to repaint once or twice but they usually stay decent.

    never fails

I had to go to a company function in Miami that was a couple days and a banquet. I drove my 89 Mustang GT convert 5 spd car. The vallet got in reved the motor a couple times and stalled it twice. Then when he got it running he was sliding the clutch so bad I went up the drive yelling at him I didnt want to have to change the clutch before I left. If it would have been a bmw or porche somebody would have been strangled.
  20. When I worked for u-haul back in the 70's we had all Ford equipment. Alot of them the old 300 straight 6. We had some issues with slow starts and the fix was going to bigger cables, we used ones off the 6v. So bigger cables may help.
  21. Thanks for the link. If I decide to go this route it may help me out. No need to scan anything yet. Still in development mode. I have bid on an Isimple box on e-bay. So will see ho it goes. If I get it cheap I may proceed. I found a guy sort of local (60 miles or so) that has a couple ipod touch and an I phone for under 30 bucks. I dont think the little postage stamp sized ipods will work on the isimple gizmos. VZUDEN: yea that would be great. I will pm you an email you can send them to.
  22. Is there some sort of a part number or something on the isimple box? Something besides the long Yamaha part# Isimple numbers there boxs from what I have seen on the site something like ISTY 571. then has DIP switches on it to configure to I guess which method you are using to control it. Set one way the radio controls it, set another the unit will be controlled via the CD setting of radio. From what I think I have seen, the Yamaha unit CD cord plugs into a flat double row connector on the top. Like maybe a 22 pin connector, but it only uses maybe 6-7 of the pins? I spent some time yesterday researching Ipods. WOW them things are pricey even if you get older ones. I found 2 touches and an Iphone early version on my local Craigslist for under $50 so that might be do able. I may be just spinning my wheels here but sometimes ya just have to think of things and reason them out. Thanks for the help.
  23. Oops I miss read as "supplemental" manual and skipped the assembly part.
  24. Ya know I think first day it showed up might have been Apr 1.
