  1. Our medical folks at work told us basically 2 for 1. For every 2 bottles of water 1 sports drink. another thing they told us was if you don't have to pee regularly, say a couple times or more on a day long ride, you are not hydrating enough. Sweet tea and pop is not good for the hydration, has to be water (or vitamin water) and rehydration sports drinks. although an good cold sweet tea tastes mighty fine after about 4 hours in the hot saddle. And no beer don't count either, so you cant play catch up after your parked. But you can sure have a cold one or 2.
  2. With the wife having use or lose vacation time we decided to go to the mountians for a week and try to beat this Fla heat. Finally decided on Franklin. We have been there before and like surounding areas. Rented a place as she has to take dog. (I dunno I just give in) I was going o put the bike in the trailer and go ride a couple days while up there. But when I got to looking at time available to ride I dont think its worth the extra time driving up with reduced speed pulling trailer vs days to ride. We are planning to raft a day, kyak another, maybe hop over to Helen for a most excellent pretzal @ the bavarian house. So really only leaves lik maybe 2 days to ride. plus didnt think of taking bike until a day or so ago and have not pretrip checked trailer. We will leave 6/ 11 and hope to get there that night. Come home the 16th Might be able to work out a lunch or dinner if anybody happins to be up and around that area, depending on what we have scheduled for the day. Pretty sure going rafting on Sun as it has cheaper rates.
  3. Look again, OP is talking 87 era bike. So wired way different than 2nd gens. I have only had like 2 guys with the early stars tell me of bad switches. The ones located down by thier leg I guess. One I figured the problem out pretty quick, to many keys hanging off key ring. He had 3 car keys, shed key and 2 house key on the ring for the bike. Weight kills these little locks.
  4. Yup would have to say its 50-50 @ best. Lot of factors, like type of metal the points are made out of as to weather they will "take" to stay adjusted. Or if it might just wealen the metal and then they move on thier own. Shoot if the orginal lasted this long and is going out, you got a new pump comming. I think you will probably be good for ahile. Now the second gens being problematic with pumps. Thats why when I thought mine was giving me problems @ 30k something I went solid state and figure how to get around mounting etc.
  5. You know your right. Maybe we should put him in his own "special" building with folks there to watch him so nobody can take him for thier own.
  6. Probably needle nose pliers are only way to adjut the points in any way.
  7. I have to agree. I think your good to go with it the way it cracked.
  8. The new "weather wicker" type shirts are great. Got some drawers like that material also. We bought some of the long sleve shirts in a florecent green in the sports wear section a couple years back during fall. You can add water to it if you want along the way, plus it keeps sun off your arms too.
  9. Should not start or run with side stand down and in gear, to prevent you from riding with side stand down and high centering off it. Only thing I can think of on your deal is maybe it set the "tip over" switch.
  10. Well...... I would just print them up however much they want.
  11. I ran mine @ 40 both ends. Well maybe 39 front. Thats what Michlen recomended when I contacted them.
  12. Not completly sure, but I think the pump control relay has a timer of sorts built into it so it just dont run and run and let the pump eventualy overheat.
  13. Check with Joe at cycle terminals. Check this page/pic out and see if you think this is it. To me I think it is. I came home from a 3500 mile trip and the next day in wouldn't start. Had same sort of problem you are having. Main fuse was so corroded I had to replace and I used some baking soda and vinegar to clean terminals. Mine broke apart also and I put it back together and have it held on with zip ties.
  14. I think my mpg goes down with the RK. Probably because I have a tendancy to wick the throttle more. Mid 30's or so with oem and lower 30's with RKs. But not enough to be a definate yea or nea one way or another.
  15. I am guessing on black pipe, not PVC type.
  16. Since the advent of the silicone sealants I pretty much use them to hold all gaskets. I have yet to find one that has caused corrosion on alum. Maybe Im just lucky. (doubt that) As long as you dont go nuts with the stuff I figure it cant hurt. Now the old brown permatex stuff, Id break some fingers if I found someone using that on anything I own.
  17. I will see if I can find the source I got mine from and the part numbers.
  18. Might try the tie the handle back and let it sit deal also. This will sometimes let any bubbles work thier way up if thats what it is.
  19. Hmm I had 17k + on mine here in "sunny" Fla and dont recall any problems. We do get quite a bit of rain at times.
  20. Yea if the fluid for the brakes and clutch look like coke colored it needs changed all the way around. These bikes use DOT 4 spec fluid also so be careful what you get. Speed bleeders are a good investment if you plan on keeping the bike. Makes the job a hole lot simpler.
  21. I was going to also say the back uneven is common. Fronts first I have heard or it. what color is the fluid in the reservoir sight glass? when was the last time it was changed out and bleed thru? I would get an old tooth brush or similar soft brush, some brake clean and remove the caliper from the mount. Take the pads out and clean the exposed part of pucks and what you can get at on the caliper. If pads are uneven maybe flip them around. Drain and bleed the system thru. Could be there was some air bubbles created while you pushed the pucks back. Doubt it but it is probably worth the $4 or whatever to bleed it out with fresh DOT 4 fluid.
  22. The other thing is if its an 87 royal this is in the wrong place for educated help. I stopped to look because it said "2nd gen" But electrics to start with is basic same ole stuff. If you are shorting across the starter solenoid and get nothing, you do not have enough voltage available at the component. So either power wire connections or ground all the way thru. IE: at the motor, at the block at the battery at the solenoid etc
  23. You know, come to think of it the new voyager is one of the few bikes I have not seen triked.
  24. This bad juju has to quit.
  25. http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/mcy/4992027273.html http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/mcy/5048214640.html Just a couple I found.
