  1. Yea Steve I know what you mean. A "good" paying job is $10hr here. Guess I can go work at Micky Ds when they raise the wage to $15 bucks like these idiots talk about.
  2. But its a dry heat ! Yea rite, like an oven. Glad you finally made it home OK.
  3. Hate to say it, but visability wise I think you touched on part of it. I painted my shorth helmet with hi vis yellow plasti dip paint pretty cool stuff. I also try to wear a hi vis vest to help out. Even behind the fairing I think the vest helps some. If you are not running a HID headlight and dont plan to, I suggest a headlight modulator. They really grab attention. The lights I have could be mounted up by the passing light if I wanted to. Dont know if you have the passing lights. If not you can probably mount them up on the turn signal bar. I have thought about a strip of LED lights that have the double stick tape on them and maybe run them like along the edge of the fairing by the clear lowers.
  4. Well the factory Yamaha connects to the CD player cable in the left saddle bag. Usnig the C-bus connector allows it to be controlled via the handlebar control. Thats kind of what I was hoping for.
  5. Dang you should have asked around. The Hagon would have probably been a beeter buy. Under $500 But the shock removal is as mentioned pretty much 2 bolts drop out bottom. However I did find it easier to loosen the dog bones on the swing arm and get them out of the way. I went ahead and pulled them, cleaned and greasd everything up before putting together.
  6. I used a piece of channel alum I had that the micro toggle switch (from radio shack) and momentary off button would fit inside. So switch on lights are on. You have to look at them to see if on hi low or flash. but then push button to cycle thru to where you want them. The alum bracket once I was ready a couple small holes and zip tied around handlebar.
  7. Should have instructions. But the one in the pic black-good ground, blue is power to radio/amp and the red from the gizmo goes to power wire of unit. Now the one you get may have different color scheme, but same idea. I installed on on a power amp converter thing I installed on mine for the GPS/aux input. I used a Boostaroo and made a power converter so the 3.5v unit would work off 12v.
  8. OK Thanks Steve. I dont know really if I can make anything happen. Priority right now if job hunt. And around here I'll be lucky to make bills much less a payment.

    radio swap

Seriously though if you want to stay with an auto type radio there are so many jobs out there now that would probably fit. In my experience the radio reception is pretty bad. Dont matter if its a RSV the Kawi Voyager guys complain about those too. The range just aint that good. So almost everyone traveling is going XM or MP3 or using their phone for Pandora or the like. Look at a lot of the new bike like the Victory Cross country bikes I dont even think they have a radio option anymore. It is ll bluetooth comm and i-pod. Just makes sense I guess when you get right down to it.
  11. I sure have leaned towards this a few times. The wife and I like different types of music. I try to play her type for some of the trip but after awhile I'm going nuts. And I'm sure she gets the same way after a couple hours. Separate music for each would be a plus for sure.
  12. Doug, what I have started doing on my ends that are the crimp on type and if I happen to use a crimp connector, I actually heat the plastic outer cover thing and strip it off. Put a piece of heat shrink on the wire and crimp together, then some dielec grease and heat shrink it up. Those big plastic insulators get messy and take up a lot of room. As far as crimpers go I am still using the old $4 pair I have had forever. Not fancy but work well and don't usually over crimp. I did recently buy a pair of "automatic" strippers from harbor freight that work well. They were like $10 or something.
  13. You know I think that was one of the deterrents to pursuing this project. Once I found out how much they wanted for i-pod even used I was like never mind. The newer i-pod touches still go for over $100 for like and 8gb.
  14. So why dont this cat just sell you the scoot. Or at least let you hang a for sale sign on it for him while you are "advertising it".
  15. All this GW talk got me looking. I found a F6b for about 13k. Its a 13. A little research told me no cruise on that model. Could it be added for reasonable cost? Also how is passenger seat on those, can a GW seat be moved over? Sorry guess I should post all new questions in new thread.
  16. Actually mine are just above. They are LED of ebay about 30 bucks. I forget the lumines, but have hi and low beams and a modulating function.
  17. Ah not that I remember. I guess I lost interest. But post it if you would, then if someone is looking for same info. I probably have an e-mail somewhere about part numbers. I think I found I could get one for a Lexus or something.
  18. Had an old school mechanic I worked with in USAF. His fuel pump crapped out like 200 miles from home. Had an old LTD. He rigged up a hose to the tank, ran it up inside the car, blew into it to get running (push fuel to carb) then stuck hose out window once got going and I guess had enough air pressure to force air in tank and up to carb. Sounds flaky, but I saw the car and the hose rig.
  19. I had to install a couple on some of my yesteryear cars. Back when you would get alternator whine, or could still run solid core spark plug wires on high performance cars.
  20. You have to kind of chuckle. The Harley dealers will spout that HD holds their resale value. Look at asking prices on used wings. I have yet to buy anything based on what resale might be. Because usually when Im done with it milage is so high few people are interested.
  21. Ah dough. I guess I didnt read TD. I would say its probably ignition noise on power side. something like this on the power side of amp. http://www.sears.com/pyramid-10-amp-in-line-noise-suppressor-ns10/p-SPM12430401919?hlSellerId=10144772&sid=IDx20110310x00001i&kpid=SPM12430401919&kispla=SPM12430401919&mktRedirect=y
  22. WOW thanks for the updates. Good to see folks out riding and enjoying our sport, habit, hobby addiction whatever. I looked the camera up on e-bay. Am I seeing that right? Around $70?? I was getting scared when you walked in the john with it on. I was thinking "oh no dont look Ethel"

    radio swap

Yea I was wondering too. Unless the OEM crapped out. But still with the wireless and blutooth options available if you ditched all the outdated radio gear CB, CD player radio, cassette you could toss 100lb and be lighter. OK so maybe 30lb
  24. We bought one of these a couple years back for the wife to use. When she is not riding with me I take it off.
