My agent said she could save me some money on my bikes and wanted to know the value, I asked her, value to me or the book, she replied, what they are worth to you, and thats what we insure them for.............So, I told her $3500.00 on my 83 seeing as how its just been repainted and rebuilt with a newer tranny, and $6500.00 on my 07 V Star. Havent heard back from her yet. Putting full coverage back on the 83, I had dropped it while I was working on it and now its pretty again and I dont want to loose out if something happens to it........

Have fun, I love finding old bikes, I found out, as long as the engine turns over, you have a 99.9% chance of getting it running...............I will be doing it some more when I retire. Thats how I made the money to buy most of my bikes........ Good luck, with the restoration.....

Edidie, congratulations on your first mission, I too was surprised how emotional I got while standing in the flag line at the airport here in Newnan, and then at the Chruch during the funeral service. It is not surprising to see all the people wiping tears away when standing, I wear my heart on my sleeve and it gets to me every time............It makes me proud to see all the people that line the streets when they transport the remains from one place to the other. Its unbelievable the outpouring of support the communities show when these fine young men and women return home. I am proud to be a member of PGR, it is such an outstanding group of people, and they are the only group that I would put on top of the list above VR. We have a lot of PGR members here and I am proud to be a member of both.

After redoing my 83, I decided to go back to the stock pipes instead of putting the Road King mufflers back on, so if anyone would like a set of RK pipes for their bike, they are theirs for the taking, just pay shipping I will even include the HD chrome clamps. I didnt pay for the pipes or the clamps, so I will pass them on for the cost of shipping. I will post some pics later this afternoon after I get off of work. They have not been drilled out they are still the way they came from the factory.

Need help with a couple of parts...............
DragonRider replied to DragonRider's topic in Watering Hole
I dont know if this bike came with the CB, AM/FM, and Cassette Deck, the deck is gone and it has the the pin in the plug to make the radio work without it. Now this could have been a standard and these added later, I dont know, but the CB looks like every other CB I have seen on the 1st Gens, and I actually bought another CB for an 83 off of Ebay and it matched the one that was in the bike already. So, question now is do I need to reinstall it, I dont get any static or interference on the radio's without it. -
Rooster, I did the same thing yesterday, like to blew my helmet off it was so loud. I had the radio up 3/4 of the way when I hit that button...................:starz:

I was thinking the same thing, the radios, am/fm, and the cb all work fine with no interference, so I guess its not needed!! I vaguely remember removing it, but not sure where it was connected, the fuse box was a real mess of glass fuses and in line fuses........... -

When I got the bike, there was no aftermarket equipment on the bike, everything was OEM, radio, cb, intercom. I didn't say the part was OEM, just that everything on the bike when I got it was OEM........maybe I wasn't clear. Maybe something was on it before I got it.......I have had the bike for 8 years and it is a 29 year old bike, so who knows? -

Its not a plug in jack, it looks to be some sort of capicator or something of that nature, it has heat shrink around it so I cant get a part number off of it or really see what it is........ -
Here is what I need help with, in cleaning up my shop I found this part and dont remember where it came from, well I do know it came off of the old fuse holder when I upgraded it with Skydoc's fuse block. So where does it go and what does it do, I havent noticed anything amiss when I am riding. The second part is I lost the battery probe, I went out and bought the resistor for the probe and now I can not find it, does anyone have a spare one they can let me have, I will glady pay for it. Thats it..........

I know you could, glad you were able to tell us about it, I know it is something you want to put behind you and forget, but I know thats not possible, I remember all the details of all the accidents I have ever been in..........not good memories, but mine were nowhere as bad as yours was.

Thanks Brad I would have been more upset to hit it with the Venture, than the V Star...........all that work down the drain. That would have been very depressing. Like you said probably better not to react in that situation.

Thanks Annie, I dont have a good spot on the front of my Vest for such a neat patch, so it looks like am going to have to swap some around to make room or better yet, buy me another vest, which I have been wanting to do, cause I got enuff patches on hand that wont fit on my old vest...........Hmmm. Fathers Day coming up, wish my kids read this forum. Wife is getting me a new armored, mesh jacket for FD. She dont have to read the forum.............

Checked the mileage again on Saturdays ride, but the mileage was down to 42.9 mpg, but with Jamie along it was spirited riding.........And I have to admit, I was the one who imitated this time, in fact after about ten miles we hit a nice long flat stretch of road and my better judgment was lost and I opened her up for the first time since the rebuild, at about 5500 rpm if felt like a turbo kicked in and she was off, I hit the Ton pretty quick and let off, running out of unobstructed straight road. That's the very first time since owning the Venture that I have gone that fast on it. It never has run this good before, not even when I first got in back in 2004. Jamie challenged me to a third gear roll on from about 50, he got the jump on me but it only took about 2-3 seconds for me to pass him, he was on my V Star 1300, I knew what the outcome would be, I knew the Star was really quick since its fuel injected, but I was also sure the Venture was the supreme bike in this situation. Like I said before, I am in love all over again with my NEW Venture...............even though I have owned it for 8 years. Never in my life did I think I could get that bike to run that good...............Glad I took on the tranny swap. At first I thought the ratios might be different in the 86 vs the 83 but I looked at the specs on both and saw that they are identical...........Sad to say but the V Star is going to be history for me soon!!! Its a great bike, but the Venture is a much better ride for me, I feel more confident on it and it fits me like a glove, I forgot how well they handled and I also found out that the Kawi Concours may not be for me, I rode Gene's 08 Concours yesterday for the first time, great handling, running bike, but even with 1 1/2 inch risers under the handlebars there was still too much weight on my hands, even after a short ride my hands were hurting from having all my weight on them.

Amen to that..............Ironically if the deer had come out between me and Wingman and got him instead of me, it would have still been my bike that got hit!! Jamie was riding my V Star 1300, I would have hated for it to happen to him, it was his first ride since he got rid of his bike last December. We were all very lucky to dodge that one......

Jamie aka Wingman, Gene aka K Rider and I just returned from a day of riding, we went down to Warm Springs, Ga, rode over Pine Mt. and had lunch in Pine Mtn at a great little BBQ stand, Three Little Pigs, we hit some back roads, a lot of back roads on the way back home and about 25 miles from home it happened, we were riding down this 2 lane local road when out of nowhere the deer, don't know if it was a buck or a doe, it happened so fast, I didn't have tome to react, I couldn't have missed it by more than 2 inches. One second clear road ahead, next second this fury blur goes right in front of me, no time to react, which probably saved me from hitting him or swerving to avoid, all I could do was stop, get of the bike and compose myself. Gene said he saw it come over the fence heading my way, but couldn't say anything on the CB fast enough. If I had been going just a fraction faster I would have t-boned it and that would have smarted.........I wasn't wearing ATGATT .......shame on me. I am supposed to be getting a new Mesh Jacket for Fathers Day........ It would of really have pissed me off :crying:to have destroyed the Venture after getting it back to almost like new.

I only got that kind of mileage one other time, and that was right after Muffinman did a carb sync and color tune then we went on a road trip from Newnan, Ga, to Banner Elk, NC, then over to the Dragon, and on one leg it got up to 47 then, and it really pissed the Muffin off cause he couldnt get that mileage out of his. I was shocked when I got that this time because of 2 bad diaphragms, and not a lot of power, but I thought it was running pretty good. Going on a ride today, and will check it again and see if the mileage gets better or worse with the new ones in, I love the power she has now.

Very dependable bike the V Star line, and a good choice for I guess a new rider. Low center of gravity, not too heavy and doesnt look like a 650. He will get many miles and smiles from it. Wish my son would have taken up riding when he was younger and I had my other bikes, but motorcycles never interested him, he was more into trucks, hunting, girls, and the usual teen stuff. He has had a few 4 wheelers but utility grade for hunting and working his property. Just as well, when he was younger he always managed to get into accidents, not all his fault, but they happened anyway, maybe best he didnt get on 2 wheels. Hope your son enjoys his new ride, and you guys put many miles on them together.

My Confession - I'm Not the Typical Rider.
DragonRider replied to Ky. Rider's topic in Watering Hole
Whenever I lead a ride at Vogel to the Dragon or anywhere esle, I tell those that want to ride with gusto to form their own group and those that want a leisurely ride to follow me, in other words ride your own ride, dont ride to keep up with the others.......thats what I do, I have been know to be left to my own because everyone else was in a hurry, not my cup of tea, but I still made it back before they did. To each his own, I like the Dragon, but not the way most do, I like to take it easy, and live to tell about it. I like rides with a view and curves, I just plain like to ride.
