  1. Before I swapped trannies from the 86 motor to my 83, my temp gauge would always be up near the red line, I was told that was normal. Now after cleaning the engine really good before tearing it down and flushing the radiator clean and adding 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water, the temp gauge now goes just a little past 1/2 way when riding. When stopped in traffic it closes in on the red and the fan comes on and it stabilizes. I cleaned everything really good especially the water pump, it was full of gunk when I tore it down and the passages were kind of restricted, so that may have been part of the high temp problem, mine still has the plastic impeller.
  2. Yes, they had me play a few notes before I left:thumbsup2:, I managed to keep it quiet while at the IHOP, didnt want to run everyone out................ But I wasnt nearly as adept as this guy was in playing tunes.........:rotfl::rotfl:......... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVnKbEZwLJo]My Hilarious Colonoscopy Recovery!!- YouTube[/ame]
  3. No wonder I got those weird looks on the way to the bathroom......:shock3:........... Everything went ok, Dr found 4 small poylps, will get the results in a few days, that drug they used to knock me out was a doozy..........they told my wife I started to wake up in the middle of it and they just shot the rest into the IV. They had a tough time getting me fully awake, they said I talked to the Dr. but I sure dont remember it.......... It was good to get back to some solid food. Thanks for all the input and well wishes, those funny stories really helped ease me through it.
  4. Just got up to do the second round of MoviePrep............The first time wasnt so bad, but this time, I couldnt keep the first glass down and some of it ended up in the sink.......It seems to be worse second time around, I have only had a couple hours sleep, its going to take at least an hour for me to down the rest of it, and then the wait begins, I am hoping it works faster this time so maybe I can get some sleep before we leave for the hospital............I think someone said this stuff taste:shock3: like elephant piss, and I dont know what that really taste like, but I guess that's a good description..........it sure isnt palatable!!:bang head:
  5. I have putting off the invetiable foo long now, starting a liquid diet this morning and wont be able to eat anything solid till around noon tomorrow:crying:. Tomorrow morning I will be heading to the hospital for my colonoscopy. I should have had this done a long time ago, but procrastinated way too long. I havent been having any problems, or symptons of anything, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get a clean report after its over. So what are your plans for today..???
  6. Not trying to take over this post, but that looks similar to the one we gave away at Vogel a few years ago for the longest ride to get to Vogel. I remember that Redneck had it once, but I dont know where it ended up. It hasnt been at the last 2 Vogel's. Russell that is one fine looking award, wish I could ride up and claim it............look nice on my wall next to some VR pictures I have.
  7. You are right as rain Dan, Thanks to those that gave all, and those that continue giving!!!!!
  8. Just a reminder about the Newnan, Ga. M & E, this Sat. July 7th, come on out for a good ride, good food and great friends, new and old...............check out the info here...... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70874 :Venture:
  9. The bike will start while on the sidestand as long as the bike is in neutral or in gear with the clutch disengaged. If it wont start when in neutral on sidestand your switch is bad and needs to be replaced. Very easy job.
  10. Thanks a ton, they were right where you said they would be, after you posted the picture, I remembered seeing them when I put the bike back togehter, I had them hanging in the metal clip, so it was easy to reach and change, the hard part was finding a fuse to fit, since I didnt have any around, I stole one from a cig. plug from an old accessory. Got lucky. Now I would say that was easily $12.00 well spent...........were else could I have gotten that info so quickly and cheaply...............I would dare say the $36.00 it has cost me for the past 3 years has saved me 100 times that much in repair cost.........!!!!!:mo money:
  11. Kenny, I know what your feeling, not being able to make it to a VR event. I plan on making some but something or someone else prevents it from happening. Finances play a big part too, cant wait till I retire, I may not be able to afford to make a lot of them, but I will have the time, and that is half the battle for me............. Sounds like its time for some cycletherapy to make it all go away, even the short rides make me feel better for a short while.............:dancefool:
  12. Clay ever since I have known you, you have been one of our Hero's, how long have you been in and how many deployments have you had, I know you love our country and your family and would do anything to protect them and us. Its guys and gals like you that make it possible for us to have the freedoms that we have today. Thanks for your service, and when you get back and are successful with selling your bikes, as long as I have 2 running you are welcome to go riding with me anytime, I cant ride 2 at one time. Take care and keep your head down.
  13. Thanks, everything except remove the turn signal, I think I remember seeing them when the bike was apart. Tomorrow I will check it out....... Lewis
  14. Here is my dilemma. Pulling out of the drive this morning my OEM radio went dead, no power to it. Not even the little green lite that shows it has power. I have checked the fuses in the main fuse box, the ground to frame, cant figure out where it lost connectivity. I pulled out my electrical schematic and it shows two fuses for radio, one is a 1amp the other is a 4amp, I guess thats what it means, its labeled 1A & 4A. One is on a blue wire the other a red/blue. Anyone know where I can find these 2 fuses..............I am stumped. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with this radio. The CB powers on but cant hear it because no power to amp or radio..................HELP!!!! I have also checked the connectors to radio, made sure they were clean and used dielectric grease on them.
  15. He is still trying to figure out how to put the RK pipes I sent him on his 1st Gen........... Hope all are ok, its got to be Hell without AC and VR.ORG!!!!!!!!!!:bang head:
  16. You are trying to stop an 800 lb bike with one disc and 2 pads, thats a lot of bike to be stopping, I know, I used to use the front brake only on most my other bikes, but after trying that with the Venture I wore out the right front pads pretty quick. Now I use both front and rear, besides the front brakes on the stock Venture are not all they could be, There are mods you can make to the MK II with R1 calipers and discs that make it really stop well. Not much can be done for the Mk I , they have different mounting points for the calipers than the MK II (86-93).
  17. You are retired how could you not have time to go..........thats all you got is time, maybe not as much money as time, but you cant use time as an excuse................
  18. Getting them from Ebay will cost you about $40.00 more than getting them directly from Sirius. My total with shipping was either 82.00 or 89.00, cant remember for sure. WHen you ordered from Sirius did you tell them you were a member of VR, we get a discount that was set up by another member here. If you can wait you can save a little money.:mo money:
  19. When I ordered mine they said they were backordered too, but I got them about a week later, I didnt pull mine out till they arrived, if you want you can use liquid electrical tape to fix them temporarily, I did that and the one I repaired was still in good. After I put them in, I couldnt believe the difference in the way it ran, it has never run this good in the 8 years that I have owned the bike.
  20. But my motor was sitting up on the work bench when I changed my plugs..................:dancefool:
  21. Now that I have that 86 tranny in my 83, I think that my 1st gen could easily outrun most 2nd Gens. Thanks again for the donation, it made a big improvement in my bike.
  22. So glad you have made a recovery and are able to tell us about it..........like Mini said once a member always a member, just because you dont ride any more doesnt mean you have to stay away, hell you can even come to the meets in your cage or your towboat.........LOL. Glad your still around.
  23. July 7th is one week away............Good riding, good friends, maybe some new friends and best of all Great BBQ........Here is the info...... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70874 Hope to see you there!!!
