I have a little over 1000 miles on mine, like you the buffetting is pretty bad, but thats the only drawback, with the exception of the pipes, would have loved it to have two instead of one and in matte black with chrome billet ends, that would match up real well with the blacked out engine........other than that.......WOW!!! I still cant get used to dragging the floorboards, it still startles me everytime it happens............how about posting a pic of your cut down windshield.........I really want to do mine........:bighug:

Bill, I got the same impression when I test drove the Roadstar and the VStar 1300, I was amazed at the power that engine has........I havent really opened mine up yet, and I dont really feel the need to, I can tell by the way I ride it now and how much throttle it has left that its way quicker than the Roadstar 1700. Im loving every minute of it.............

Go to your local auto parts store in the paint section and buy some leather/vinyl spray dye. It works great and easy to apply, makes the seat look like new, I have done it to several and always received good comments on the appearence of the seat...........

In my younger days, when I used to snow ski a lot, I found out that a pair of ladies panty hose were far more comfortable and warmer than not wearing thermals, and not as hot as thermals can be when skiing.......I did try it once and it wasnt bad.................Hey if Broadway Joe can do it..............:rotf:

I had the same thing happen to me last week on the way home from work, and she didnt even hear that weak excuse for a horn on my bike, I had to brake to avoid being run off the road, when I pulled up next to her she refused to look in my direction and kept yakking on the phone, I thought about following her, but that could have turned ugly for me.......so I let it slide.........no harm, but I sure felt like I was fouled............

At least you are one of the lucky ones to live to tell about it........I do believe after you reach 80, they ought to ban seniors from driving, they just dont have the reflexes it takes to drive safely......... Hope you recover fast and fully.

Dan, take your time and do it right, no need to rush riding season is just about over for you guys up north. Congratulations, you ought to recoup some of your investment like I did, by selling the do-dads you dont like on ebay............

I went on not one but 2 very enjoyable rides today, the first was on my 1st Gen, which I had just given a thorough cleaning, so I thought I would show it off........Its been so long since I have ridden it for any distance or time (1 month), that I had forgotten what a nice ride it was, rode about 40 miles of backroads just enjoying the music and the beautiful weather (75 Degrees). Didnt really want the ride to end but we were going out to eat with my daughter and her husband so I had to end it before I really wanted to. As it turns out my wife and daughter were going shopping after we ate, and I didnt want to tag along, so I took the Vstar 1300 to the resturaunt so I could head back home, so I took the long way home, about 40 miles also, and enjoyed that ride very much, two different animals, and two great rides, I am glad I decided to keep the 1st Gen, cause its nice to ride something different once in a while and having a back up bike is a good thing. Besides once it hits 25 years old, it an antique here.......and the price should go up on them. As soon as I get back from Memphis the 83 is going into my shop and getting a makeover and make her pretty again, not that shes ugly now, but she is showing her age...........

Are you going to try and make the ride to Memphis.....By the way, you could meet Eck in Huntsville, Al, and ride in with him, might be a bit shorter that way............

If anyone can think of a better place, I am all ears. I have us scheduled to be at the hospital at 1:00 pm on the 27th.

I am glad you found your bike to your likeing as I did, Let me know how it goes with the lowers you are making, I'm still a little reluctant to cut down the shield, but I know I will get around to it. Hope you make it to Memphis for the St Jude ride, I will likely ride the Venture because of the distance involved and having the Radio and the CB on it. Cant wait to make that ride.
