Just got back from Charlene's second follow up for her spine surgery, which went very well, she is healing up fine, back pain is gone, at the same office we had an appointment with another surgeon to look at her hip and knee, she will be having her right hip replaced sometime in May, which is just around the corner, she is releived that we are moving on a lot quicker than we expected. I think if it were me I would have contacted Dr. "K" by now....but she has put up with more than I ever could, then if she still needs it the knee will be replaced next. Charlene spoke to the Dr. office today and the date is set for May 19, so in a little over 2 1/2 weeks back to the hospital. Like I have said before, this is her rebuilding year...........

I may be 60, but aint time for me to get an overhaul yet, I still feel like I'm in my 40"s, or younger, I dont think I felt this good at 40...... Right now I have fewer aches and pains than I did then and my health is much better, I think I owe it all to moving out of that humid New Orleans climate to a drier one in Atlanta. Whatever she can dish out after her complete overhaul, I should be able to match her..................

Before I got the Venture I had a very nice 83 Seca Touring Edition, hard bag, faring and rear box. I took it in to have a shifter seal replaced that was leaking, the paint was original, it had some wear and tear on it but I would have rated it at 8.5 on scale of 10. Jamie and I went to pick it up and when I got to the service desk, the first thing out of their mouth was, we had a little accident with your bike. I was expecting the worst, went back to look at it and it wasnt all that bad, the glass cover over the headlight was gone and it had a small ding in the front fender that didnt break the paint, they said they would take care of the damages and zero out my bill. They looked up the parts needed and guess what, they couldnt get them. I told them not to worry, I would take care of the repairs and get back to them. I had a piece of plexi at home so I cut it to size and fitted it in the fairing, took all of about 1 hr to do......as for the fender they said they would pair for the repair or give me 50% of the cost of a new fender. I ended up getting a check from them for $173.00 to cover the fender and the glass, and I feel like I ripped them off. I didnt repair the fender because it just wasnt that bad, but they felt bad about it. It actually didnt cost me a cent to fix it, so I got my seal replaced and got a nice little check in return. They are very careful with my bikes now, they know they got away easy on the first one........wont be so lucky if they do it again.

Plantation, Florida: Last week police were called to investigate an attempted armed robbery: The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a Plantation, Florida, Subway shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically wounding the other, is described as John Lovell, a former helicopter pilot for two presidents. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, and he works out every day. Mr. Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night. According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway at 1949 N. Pine Rd. just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, Mr. Lovell, who was finishing his meal. After robbing the cashier, the two men attempted to shove Mr. Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well. They got his money, but then Mr. Lovell pulled his handgun and opened fire. He shot one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in the head. When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop, K-9 Units found the other in the bushes of a nearby business. They also found cash strewn around the front of the sandwich shop according to Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department.. Both men were taken to the Broward General Medical Center , where one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale died. The other, 21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in critical but stable condition. A longtime friend of Lovell was not surprised to hear what happened. The friend said, ''He'd give you the shirt off his back, but he'd be mad as hell if someone tried to take the shirt off his back.'' Mr. Lovell was a pilot in the Marine Corps, flying former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am and Delta Airlines. He is not expected to be charged authorities said. ''He was in fear for his life,'' Detective Rettig said, "These criminals ought to realize that most men in their 70's have military backgrounds and aren't intimidated by idiots." Something tells me this old Marine wasn't 'in fear for his life', even though his life was definitely at risk. The only thing he could be charged with is participating in an unfair fight. One 71- year young Marine against two punks. Two head shots and one center body mass shot... Outstanding shooting! That'll teach them not to get between a Marine and his meal. Florida law allows eligible citizens to carry a concealed weapon. Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?

I know how proud you guys are of Jason, he is a fine young man, and I feel very lucky to have met him and ridden with him on a few occasions. Charlene and I will keep him and all our service personel in our prayers for a safe return. Oh, by the way, can you tell us what he was flying over, was it a big bird or little birdie......???

That was YamaCarl, he is from S. La. I dont believe he is a supporting member anymore, but I might have is address here on an old Vogel registration, if you want to contact him, It was a neat seutp, he fabricated it himself. Ok, his name is Carl Guidry, he lives in Brusly, La, just across the river from Baton Rouge, La. and his phone number is on the VR asst. list. -
