That "repair kit" only includes various gaskets, so replacing the gaskets would have no affect on a sticking petcock. The petcock is a tapered plug with a passage hole. The tapered bore tends to grab the tapered valve slug. Cleaning, lubricating and perhaps polishing the bore should enable easier operation of the petcock. (my pictures reflect the parts of the 1983 (without reserve and without an operation knob, but the principle is the same on all Venture petcocks.

The Blind Panel for the CB on the Euro Ventures is part number 3JT-28233-00, with damper (gasket) 26H-28247-00, along with two 4mm nuts. There is one available on the CSMNL website for only 103.50 Euros. It appears to be metal. https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xvz13td-1990-3jt2-europe-203jt-300e1_model37652/panelblind-3_3jt2823300/ The fiche also shows a "Plate" part number 3JS-28336-00 that may go on top of the Blind Panel? https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xvz13td-1990-3jt2-europe-203jt-300e1_model37652/plate_3js2833600/

Your gold painted bracket is for the 1986-1993 XVZ1300. It appears that you also got the XVZ13 rear caliper with the bracket. The XVZ13 rear caliper will not fit on the XVZ12 caliper bracket, so in addition to needing the XVZ12 caliper bracket, you will also need to get a XVZ12 rear caliper.

84 venture royal
Prairiehammer replied to oneghost's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Au contraire. The R6 calipers will not bolt onto his 1984 forks. To use the R6/R1 calipers one must have 1986 or newer forks. -
I have a 40 Amp ATC style MAXI (APX) main fuse on mine and have but one additional ring connector besides the starter cables on the positive and negative battery posts. That single addition is for the SAE charger leads. If not for the charger leads, there would be nothing on my battery aside from the starter cables.

Hand Grip Length
Prairiehammer replied to ken5124's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The First Generation grip is indeed longer than most at about 6¾". And yes, grips marketed for the Honda GL1500 and GL1800 are a perfect fit for the Venture. -
You know someone else that is very rarely heard from these days? @Snaggletooth ! I haven't heard from for like forever, Mike. How are ya?

1984 yamaha venture royale
Prairiehammer replied to Doogie1982's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The fuel tank cap for a 1987 is a locking cap. A key to match will be needed. You CAN place the cap onto the filler neck with out the key, but you will not be able to remove the cap after doing so, without the appropriate key. Make sure you get a key that fits when you obtain another cap. As with most all discontinued parts for these old bikes, eBay is your best source. The gas cap is also still available from Yamaha, part number 54K-24602-10-00, although VERY EXPENSIVE at $110-$170! BTW, the fuel filler cap from the 1983 and 1984 will not fit on the 1985-1993 tank. As Ben said, most probably the float valve is stuck closed, but depending on how the bike was laid up and for how long, it is also possible that gasoline varnish/gum has blocked the fuel at the float valve NET FILTER. The net filter is a fine wire mesh and become clogged with debris and varnish. Spray carb cleaner applied to fuel inlet of that carb MAY dissolve the varnish/gum, but that potent cleaner can also deteriorate the O-ring on the float valve. If that O-ring is damaged, fuel can bypass the float valve, rendering the float valve ineffective. -
needle valve spring
Prairiehammer replied to Doogie1982's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First of all, proper nomenclature is important to avoid confusion, for all parties. There is but one "needle valve" on the Venture carbs. That would be the float valve, and it does not have a spring (or screw). Since you say you pulled the diaphragms and "undid the screw holding the needle valve", I suspect you are looking for the coil spring under the white plastic screw on the piston assembly. But if your "needle valve" is really the PILOT SCREW or air/fuel mixture screw, then yeah, there is supposed to be a small coil spring applying tension to the pilot screw to prevent vibration from changing its setting. But again, I am confused, because one does not have to remove the piston diaphragm to access the pilot screw. Which spring are you missing? This spring on the PILOT SCREW? This spring on the needle assembly? This spring on the #7 needle assembly on the diagram? -
Yes, one of the colors of 1983 XVZ12TK (STANDARD Venture, not ROYALE) is "maroon" (Yamaha calls it NRR, NEW RUBY RED). There is also another 1983 STANDARD Venture color, "black" called by Yamaha SCB, SPARKLE CRIMSON BLACK. The 1983 ROYALE however, was only in two tone "gold" (AVG, ALLUVIAL GOLD & SILKY GOLD).

Not that unusual for Canadian Ventures, especially those in the Maritimes. I have a dozen or so Canadian Ventures that lack the 17 digit VIN. If your insurer demands a 17 digit VIN, use this: JYA31N000DA000556. That would be how your bike would be identified if it had a 17 digit VIN. The 31N denotes a Canada market 1983 XVZ12TD Venture Royale. The maroon color is not original for your Venture however. The 1983 Royale was only in two tone gold.
-
There was NOT a 1982 Venture for the North American market. The first US and Canada Venture XVZ12TK was made in January 1983. The first US and Canada Venture Royale XVZ12TDK was made in February 1983.

It is a common problem. An inattentive mechanic may not notice the different bolt lengths. AND the same inattentive mechanic when looking at the parts diagram sees the longer bolt (91317-06020)going into the threaded hole in the head at the exact location that the shorter bolt (91314-06016) should go. The parts diagram is wrong, but if the mechanic were to look at the parts LIST, he should see that there are just two 16mm bolts (#7) and the list correctly assigns the shorter bolt to its proper location. But the drawing does not!
-
When you reassemble, just insure that the shorter bolts go where they are supposed to go. Clean the threads on the short bolts and in their respective hole with degreaser and then apply a very light coating of sealant on the bolt before mounting. Don't use very much sealant. Excess sealant could be pushed into the now open oil gallery.
-
Don't worry about what kind of lube to use on the O-rings at the base of the carb joints/holders/boots. As long as the head surface is clean and defect free, and the O-rings are new and proper, dry assembly is OK. The TOPS of the joints (where the base of the carb fits) can be simply lubricated with WD-40, Vaseline, lithium grease, etc. Not that critical. Lubrication at that location just makes carb insertion easier.
-
Generally, sealant is not recommended on any O-ring. Light compatible lubricant is acceptable. When assembling the carburetor "joints" onto the cylinder head, please note that the mounting bolts are not all the same length. Putting the 20mm bolts into the wrong location will cause the long bolt to break through into the cam oil gallery.

New to these bikes.

Remove the stock handlebar holder and substitute risers from another Yamaha model, (Royal Star, V-Star, Road Star, etc.), most of the larger Yamaha bikes use a 12mm riser shaft, like the 1983-1993 XVZ Ventures. The length of the "riser" stud would be a consideration, however. Replacing the stock riser with a pair of independent risers will give you the capability to install conventional handlebars. -
