  1. I can't help you with the brake line lengths for a de-linked system, but perhaps you can extrapolate from these measurements for the conventional (OEM) setup: Brake Line Lengths.pdf
  2. The rims are interchangeable and identical, except the 1983 is slightly smaller width and the 1990 and newer are not black. The brake discs on the other hand are not interchangeable. While one version will bolt onto the wheel of the other version with no problem, the MKI brake rotor/disc is too large in diameter to fit onto the MKII forks with calipers.
  3. Contributed by Prairiehammer. In the write-up, Ed cautions that the "brass center pipe" should not be removed for fear of damage. That part must be removed in order to clean and inspect the primary working part of the proportioning valve. There will be no damage done by removing the copper colored spindle. It simply slides into the bore of the proportioning valve. Attached to the spindle is a nitrile cup. This "rubber" cup is prone to damage or debris. Additionally, there is a constrictive port behind the cup that should be inspected and insured to be clear. Attached are pertinent photos I have taken when I disassembled my proportioning valve. 4. I noticed that you and Ed just posted a write-up about the proportioning valve on the First Gen. 5. I don't know why you would think that is not him. Them Crazy Canucks.
  6. That "seat plate" (Yamaha's term) was introduced in 1988. It is installed with the resilient lip up.
  7. Actually, I just saw your request this morning and I spent maybe 15 minutes looking around. Glad I could help our senior citizens.
  8. Here is one on eBay. Same company. Same size? But in milliamps. Perhaps it can be adapted? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-2-Vintage-Panel-meters-Weston-Model-111-Emico-Model-2420-/111867082068?hash=item1a0bcc3554:g:lXMAAOSwbdpWZJ0I And another: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMICO-Ammeter-D-C-Amperes-0-to-6-Gauge-Amp-Tool-/272084978253?hash=item3f59874a4d:g:~PAAAOxygj5Snoqx And if you wanted a voltmeter in the same size instead of an ammeter, you have this one. Perhaps you could swap the case from this one to the ammeter with the cloudy case? Do a search for "Emico". Apparently what Electro-Mech was renamed. Same instruments. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emico-DC-Volt-Gauge-0-30-/321152240630?hash=item4ac62a4bf6:g:rSUAAOxy9bxRzEdL

I am always trying to help those who can't help themselves.

    Best color!
  14. Number one favorite (yes FAVORITE...with NO "U":rasberry:) First Gen color (not colour)is my "black" Tuxedo, (Yamaha actually calls it "New Black Blue" with "Bluish Black Metallic"), I call it black. Rather subtle, perhaps, but a timeless color (oh, OK....colour). Second favourite is the 1989/1990 "Blue" (Yamaha says it is "Dull Blue Cocktail" and "Dark Greyish Blue Metallic").
  15. Yeah. Except for the color. The babysh*t Brown has never appealed to me. Good for you, @VanRiver. Sorry to hear about your addiction. Jealous of your "AZ place". Where's 'bout?
  16. You can open it open and remove anything that is loose or may become loose. It won't hurt the performance. May even help. Note that there is an aftermarket "collector" that does away with the box altogether, (think Hooker header). That "header" has way less restriction than the stock system and yet rejetting seems not to be required.
  17. I have a set of chrome fog lights on my bike that have 55 watt H3 bulbs. I want to reduce the wattage/electrical load, without sacrificing light output. Been looking for a drop-in bulb in either HID or LED. I have seen many advertised, but I am leery about the focal point matching up with the existing halogen, especially when considering the LED "H3" replacements. Let us know how these work out for you AND what brand and model number if they do work well. Where are you going to put the ballasts?
  18. I don't think the size of the current carb is necessarily the issue, rather the manifold design is. Many 1300cc VW engines run with a 300-350 cfm Weber or Solex just fine. There is a single carb manifold kit for the Venture offered on eBay. Note the manifold design. http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-VENTURE-XVZ1200-1300-SINGLE-VW-CARBURETOR-CONVERSION-MANIFOLD-KIT-/252185542008?hash=item3ab76dfd78:g:~A0AAOSwFnFWDTq6&vxp=mtr
  19. I suspect that the large plenum is the cause of the flat spot. That general style manifold is notorious for poor low speed performance.
  20. So? If you can afford to go deep-sea fishing every few days, you can afford a good headlight. Perhaps, David needs some new lights for his boat; you could do a "group buy". Heehee.
  21. Is there an accelerator pump on the Holley? Does it work?
  22. The 5X7 headlight is too large to fit within the MKI headlight assembly. The 4X6 is closer to the required size, but not quite correct. I measured the headlight on my '83: 4¾X7 extreme edge dimension. The part of the light that fits in the chrome trim ring/retainer is: about 6.6X 4.5". The JW Speaker 4X6 is below: Might you consider a couple of 90mm LED projectors installed as on Snaggletooth's? http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/bus-led-headlights-model-90/
  23. Thank you Greg. But I have not received any PM from you.
  24. Wow, Carl. Sad. And what a poor time of year to suffer this fire. Good luck. Here's a link to news about your fire. http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/2015/12/19/carls-choice-meats-vows-to-recover-from-fire
