  1. Puc, the Second Gen rear shock IS substantially different from the First Gen shock. Here is a diagram of a Second Gen shock, courtesy of Rick Butler. Rick Butler Shock Diagram.PDF
  2. The air and oil are in two separate sealed chambers, isolated from each other. Releasing the air should not have released any oil.
  3. If you don't want the uncertainty of a used starter, you can still buy a brand new Yamaha starter from the worthless dealer. And it is only $494 MSRP! Yamaha part number 4NK-81890-00-00.
  4. Thank you Franky for the VIN. It should be noted that you own a 1985 Venture Royale, not a 1984 as you believe.
  5. I don't think I can make this any simpler:
  6. There is NO electrical connection internally from the blue/white wire to the either of the big posts. The blue/white wire simply completes the circuit for the internal solenoid coil. The blue/white is connected to ground when the start switch is depressed. Do not jumper anything to the small post that the blue/white wire is connected to. Again, lots of smoke if you do. With the positive battery cable hooked up to the "IN" side of the solenoid (as I explained above) and the starter cable hooked to the "OUT" side of the solenoid, simply grounding the blue/white wire should cause the starter to crank.
  7. As this wiring schematic shows, the proper wires on the clutch switch are black/white, blue/YELLOW, and black/YELLOW. Study this diagram and one can figure out what wires should be "jumpered" to bypass the clutch switch.
  8. NO! I hope you haven't hooked the "ground" cable to the solenoid yet! That would let a lot of smoke out! The positive cable from the battery goes on the big lug next to the small "unused" screw. The cable that goes to the starter goes on the other big lug. As I said earlier, the MKII solenoid with the single blue/white wire should already have the jumper incorporated from the big lug (battery side) to the small screw.
  9. The MKII starter relay (solenoid) has but one small wire, the blue/white. The second small screw is connected to the battery positive via a jumper strip built into the solenoid. Depending on the manufacturer of the solenoid, the jumper connecting the big post to the small connection may be internal or external (manifested by a visible conducting strip).
  10. The Venture water pump elbow 26H-12446-00 is still available new for $37.43 from Boats.net. However, you can get the same elbow 1FK-12446-00 (painted black for the VMax) for $22.45 from Boats.net.
  11. Thank you, Suds. Yours is only the second 1990 Canadian in my database.
  12. Dennis, there are three 1986-1993 fender "Mascots" on eBay right now: http://tinyurl.com/y7qc24pj http://tinyurl.com/ycmdxvqn http://tinyurl.com/y98x4utf
  13. Thanks for the VINs, Dave. You are correct, the 41W are both 1984 Canadian Royales. And the 31M is a 1983 US Royale. What color are the Canadian '84s? Mileage? Is the build date on the 41W----167, October 1983, too?
  14. CB has been standard on all US destined Venture Royales since 1986. AM/FM/cassette has been standard on all Venture Royales since 1983.

  16. Your VIN is typical for Eastern Canada and Europe. Apparently, adoption of the 17 character VIN was not universal.
  17. Thank you, Blaine. Yours is the first Canadian 1990 Venture entered into the database. May I ask for a bit more information about the bike? What is the "build date"?
  18. My Progressive policy is about to expire and then I receive a mailing from Markel Insurance. Out of curiosity, I went to their site and ran a quote. For identical coverage, Markel's premium is $160 annually versus $490 for Progressive.
  19. Annie, I live 12 miles or 15 minutes from the Root Beer Stand in Oglesby, IL. I will be happy to buy you guys a root beer float or even a full blown lunch. Check my profile for my cell number. Hope to hear from ya. And meet you at the Root Beer Stand. Just don't tell @eusa1 . It will be more pleasant that way.
  20. "Unfortunately, Nomorobo is not available on traditional analog copper landlines at this time." From the NoMoRobo website.Yeah, we still have that.
  21. I think I have figured out what the problem is. Yesterday, I started a gmail account and I set that account to forward email messages received via gmail to forward the messages to my main email address. Today, I changed my email address on VentureRider to the gmail address. I now receive thread reply notifications to the gmail account, but gmail notifies me that the message has been blocked when gmail has tried to forward the notification to my primary email address. So it appears that the "nabbnet.com" (my primary email server) spam filter has blacklisted messages from dnelson@venturerider.org, but ONLY those messages that contain URLs or links or some other spam violation. I have notified my ISP of the issue, but have not received a response yet. Apparently, "Barracuda" spam filter, used by nabbnet.com, has blacklisted venturerider.org messages if the messages fail the barracuda spam rules. Don't know what rule the notification messages are breaking though.
  22. Sheez! Has not anyone ever reminded you that the Venture is not an off road bike? Broken back?! THAT seems like a pretty serious injury. Are you still in the hospital? If so, where? As for another bike...got a nice black First Gen if you want to go "retro". Take care, Bud.
  23. Thank you for your contribution, BJ. Yes, it is a Canadian intended Venture and yes, the color is correct for that year and model.
  24. The yellow cover manual is for the Standard Venture and the brown/burgundy leatherette is for the Venture Royale.
