I have recently bought another XVZ12 from 1984. The engine runs sweet and after I installed a new (used) driveshaft it is on the road again after standing still for 10 years! Surprizingly the carbs seems clean and adjusted since it starts like a charm and runs real smooth. Anyhow the clutch is not as good as it can be. Some friction is felt while pulling it and i suspect that the master cylinder need new seals. It does not disengage completely either. I have put in new seals in the slave cylinder and checked the push rod for straightness (ok). I have stripped and cleaned the master cylinder by the way.

I found a good site where you can see all the models that share rhe same oem-part; http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/motorcycle/Y-26H-W0098-00-00.html

Bought it august 2013 for about 800$. The drive shaft and it's coupling is defect. Hav ordered new and used parts on ebay.

Does it matter if you instead plug the left rear carb port and connect the MAP sensor to the left front carb port?

I'm considering rewining my stator since it does not seem too complicated. I have examined a XZ550 (Vision) stator that have the same number of coils (18) but is smaller. The copper wire has a diameter of 1.1 mm. Does the XVZ have the same wire size? Here in Europe I can't find high output stators. Probably because the XVZ did not sell in great number here. In UK the Electex company sells replacement stators for 90 £ (140 $) including VAT: http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Stator_Kits_424%2ehtml&WD=xvz&PN=G08%2ehtml%23aG8#aG8e They also have RR that seems up to date; http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Regulator_Rectifier_206%2ehtml&WD=xvz12&PN=RR36%2ehtml%23aRR36#aRR36 I have read about the cooling kit but it's perhaps a bit overkill here in Sweden (not being so very hot...)? So back to my first question; the size of the copper wire on the oem stator, please!

It seems like the 1.st gen front tyre has an odd dimension (for a front tyre): 120/90-18H 65H. I have a hard time finding a front tyre form my XVZ12 I plan to fit a Michelin CommanderII at the rear so what could be a suitable rubber in front?

Dunlop D404 VS Shinko 777??

OK, my question is if there are any other tyre that makes this kind of noice ( howling or whatever )? I want my next rear rubber to be quiet. -

What is a barb hose fitting? -
Dunlop D404 VS Shinko 777??

I have Metzler Marathon on the rear wheel. Seems to last forever but makes a very annoying sound as soon as I tilt the bike. Front is a Michelin Macadam; OK. So perhaps I'll put on another Michelin on the back wheel to avoid the howling. Anyone that have experience of this phenomena? -

Today I installed a MAP sensor on my 1:gen XVZ12. I have the Ignitech TCI but have used it without MAP sensor so far. The first thing I noticed was that the idle is now 1500 rpm instead of 1000. Perhaps that's a good sign? The bike feels like it has gained more grunt. Pulling like a train from 2000 rpm! Or, it's my imagination... I installed the MAP without any restrictor to #1 cyl synch port. The MAP have a very small entering hole (ca 1-2 mm) so I decide to try without. But looking how the values jumped around on the PC made me wonder if I shouldn't add a restrictor after all. -
YICS - soft connecting hoses?
Lassesand replied to Lassesand's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
TBQH I didn't suspect that steel braided YICS hoses should ad any significant amount of power to the engine. The reason for using steel braided was that the dimension was appropriate. The other hoses I had was way too thick and bulky. And it adds a bit of bling-bling to the murky area under the carbs; ha ha! TGIAF -
YICS - soft connecting hoses?
Lassesand replied to Lassesand's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I pulled the carbs and adjusted the fuel levels today. Two of the carbs had 18 mm below center (specs 14) so I fixed that. While the carbs where off I replaced the old soft YICS hoses with new and steel braided ones. Looks nice and I think I regained a couple of ponies! It feels stronger but I can't tell if it's just placebo... At least it runs more stable and smooth now. The low fuel levels probably caused a sort of pulsating feeling as someone pulled very slightly on and off the throttle. Seems to be gone now! I have clocked around 9000 km now with the Ignitech TCI and it works Tip Top! I want to connect a vacuum sensor and the fiddle with the ignition curve again. Ok, see you later! -
I will post some of my own pictures at work tomorrow. My connection at home is too slow Yes, it was very nice to make this trip with my sons and I think they really enjoyed it too!

This summer me and my two sons took a trip from Sweden, through Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. We visited cities/villages as Fussen (and saw the famous http://www.neuschwanstein.de/englisch/palace/index.htm , you can see where Disney got his inspiration drawing castles!), Riva de Garda (http://www.tripadvisor.ie/LocationPhotos-g194883-Riva_Del_Garda_Lake_Garda_Trentino_Alto_Adige.html) etc. We also rode over the Grossglockner pass (http://www.grossglockner.at/en/) and it was snowing up there! My VXZ 1200 (-84) functioned flawless except for a bit of trouble with the carging of the battery. I was lucky and found oxide on the connector from the generator. After removing the oxide it was back in business! In total 4100 km and great fun!

Has anyone used a B&H seat cover?
Lassesand replied to preach2u's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Armor All is a no no on any seat! I discovered that as early as in the late 70:is. using it on my T120R Bonneville. -
I have consulted the WS manual and found that the CV join can be pressed apart and that there are 4 needle bearings in it. I now have bought a (-83) XZ550 with an extra engine for nearly bicycle money. The CV joint (I assume it's a similar construction, only smaller) flexes nicely in one direction but not in the perpendicular ditto. I suspect one of the needle bearings to be shot (rusty). Has anyone any experience of servicing the CV joint?
