Repalcing the stock antennas will help with the range too.

You can easily put an amp on it but I personally have never had the need for one.

Before you split the controller try a couple other things first. Check the connections behind the fairing, in 95% of the ones I have worked on this has been the culprit (some with the exact same symptoms). Take them apart clean them and put back together with dielectric grease. Check the cable going under the seats, if it is getting pinched it will cause some of the symptoms you described especially if they have a backrest installed.

One of the guys I work with has renewed his learners 7 times and I doubt if he could pass the skills test, tried to get him to take the MSF course but he says he does not need it.
