Replaced Rear Shock Lessons Learned.
etcswjoe replied to etcswjoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Come on down and we can change it out. The big reason I changed mine was that it had been dripping oil for the last six months and I started noticing a dive in curves real bad, with the new shock no more diving and I can actually tell a difference when I change air pressure. -
Those pictures look real familiar, I had the exact same experience two years ago scotch bright pad and alot of elbow grease with soap and water. May have been Slime instead of ride on they say to replace it every two years.

Looking for an on-line tire deal
etcswjoe replied to ActionJax's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just ordered a tire from Dennis Kirk was about the best price I could find (I also had 2 gift cards) there are several others that are within a few bucks, southwest moto, motorcycle superstore, Jake W were close, j&p and cycle gear were quite a bit higher and all the dealers in the area were higher. 25 bucks is what I pay to have a tire mounted and balanced at Cycle Gear there are several folks here that do it themselves but for 25 bucks it is worth it to me to have someone else do it. Is the 52 only if you buy the tires from them because that is not bad for two tires. 91 for front 99 for rear at Dennis Kirk 10 Tire fee 200 Total -
Leaving Rural Retreat Va on Thursday to go to my daughters wedding in Cape Girardeau Mo Saturday taking 80 from near London KY to US 27 to US 68 to 80 then go up to Il 3 then on in to Cape. Been several years since I have been this route and if I remember correctly it is a fairly twisty but good road. If anyone along the route wants to meet up or even ride awhile give me a shout.

The other day at work we were sent a questionnaire to recognize someone who might become an active shooter. Here are a few of the things they said to look for: 1. Interest in guns 2. Complains about work 3. Talks out against the establishment I think we need to watch everyone on here

I agree the best ones are when you were not looking.

I don't know why I did not do this before but I went to the FBI website and they have several links for checking this. https://forms.fbi.gov/check-to-see-if-your-computer-is-using-rogue-DNS

I read an article that sounds more like an April Fools joke than real, it wants everyone to go to http://www.dcwg.org and check to see if there computers have been hijacked, saw the article on AP, CNN, Foxnews etc.... Seems fishy to me any thoughts? http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/20/hundreds-thousands-may-lose-internet-in-july/

Falling apart Piece by Piece
etcswjoe replied to bostonlawman2003's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I check all the bolts I can every time I wash the bike, especially the helmet locks, trunk bolts, saddle bag hinges, gear shift bolt. The RSV is not the only bike I have ever had to do this on and when I took the MSF course last this was one of the items we were told to do on a regular basis. -
Someone posted onrFacebook they found the bike and fined the owner but have yet to determine the rider in the video.

I just want to know why all those cars were sitting still on the highway

I cheaped out, I found a shop in NH that had a used one from a trike conversion, supposedly only had 3000 miles on it and from the looks of It I can believe it. Cost me 125 bucks so I will see how long it last. I was hoping to see how the test went with the YSS shock, but I could not wait any longer. -
I bought one of my 99's last year for 6,000 with a kendra foldaway trailer which I sold to my brother for his Harley. The bike had 23K on it and a few extras but was very clean and the PO had every maint record since the day it was bought new.

Replaced my rear shock today took about 90 mins (gotta love air tools) figured out a couple of things and thought I would share. I did not remove the rear tire I did everything through the sides. 1. If you put a quarter inch shim between the Carbon One adapter and the frame it gives you plenty of clearance to pull out the leveling links bolt. 2. Needle nose vice grips are great for pulling out the top bolt and putting it back in. 3. A floor jack under the rear tire will give you control of the tension and makes it real easy to slide the bolts back in.
