What about a shot of compressed air between the shim and bucket? Just enough to loosen the suction caused by the oil...

1983 carb trouble?
MikesBike replied to RonE's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Are you sure the carbs are all the way down into their sockets? A wet carb is also the same symptom I had... Take off the filter box and loosen the socket clamps, give the tops of the carbs a good hard push, you should feel one or more carbs "pop" into its socket. This can't be done with the air box on as you can't apply enough force to make them seat. -
Is it possible that the carbs are not set all the way into their sockets? After having mine out, I had similar symptoms. Turns out I didn't have the carb rack pushed deep enough to keep them from sucking air. They should seat with the socket near the bottom of the carb, very little if any of the nipple (for lack of a better word) should be showing.

Thanks Don, I have a feeling I'll need some luck with this. I can make it work with a metric bolt and nylon washer but would prefer to have the factory hardware... something about being symmetrical . I guess I could do the other side the same way. Anyone need a Zues helmet washer and screw?

I bought a used Zeus modular helmet recently that was missing a hinge screw and washer. The Zeus website offers no support and I've tried several dealers local to the area with none having the Zeus brand. I'm wondering if anyone knows where to find the washer and screw for the hinge or might have an extra set laying around? Thanks for your help!

Trying to tie down my RSV on a U-Haul trailer
MikesBike replied to workerbee13's topic in Trailer Talk
Last one I hauled, I used a wood block with a top of foam made from a swimming pool "noodle". My intention was to keep from pulling the front shocks to their bottom. Worked OK but the bike did move around a little more than before.- 25 replies

Where is the fuse?
MikesBike replied to MikesBike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Found the ATC fuse panel and a blown fuse. Emergency flashers and trunk light now work. Wonder why Yamaha didn't make the main panel an ATC type at the same time? -
I have a 1989 Venture Royale. My trunk light and emergency flashers don't work. There was some questionable wiring in the trunk by the PO and probably blew the fuse. The schematic shows a fuse in line but I can't find any fuses blown. Is the emergency flasher fuse located somewhere other than the fuse panel?

I can't help with the 2nd gear issue but I would like to see the mod you made to the battery monitor circuit. -
Carb Diaphragm info...finally
MikesBike replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I installed my new diaphragms, I used the edge of a plastic key card to carefully push the rubber into the gap. I guess a credit card would work OK also.- 122 replies

Alternate Passenger Floorboards
MikesBike replied to tpalshadow's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Would you believe I might have a pair of those that I'd be willing to part with? No, not chicken lips, floor boards..... I purchased a parts bike with more bling than a pimpmobile. Let the bidding begin- 4 replies

Hey Nighthawk II, sure was nice to meet you this afternoon! I'd like to come up to Oneida and ride sometime. Maybe we should try to get all the East Tennessee Venture riders together and do the curves of the Big South Fork!

Earl, Get well soon! I'm still working on the lower fairing you sent me. As a mater of fact, yours was better than mine, so I've been repairing it instead. Kindness, like you sending it to help me out, doesn't go unnoticed! Prayers for a quick recovery!

Carb Diaphragm info...finally
MikesBike replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My diaphragms arrived today! Exactly one week after I placed my order, I was pleasantly surprised by a small white box in the mail. The gentlemen at Sirius answered all the questions I posed to them with much patience. The discount still applies, although not as deep as in the beginning (After all, the original deal was setup a year ago, prices have gone up since then) I'm thankful they still offer the deal to the VentureRider organization. When you're ready to order, send an e-mail to Chris or Martin asking for the group discount. Place the order via their web site (www.siriusconinc.com). When complete, e-mail them the invoice number and the deal is done! Very easy to do and great people to work with! Thank you Sirius!- 122 replies

SkyDoc has been kind to me also! By the way Earl, the lower fairing you sent to me is better than the one I had, so I've been fixing it and cutting parts off of mine... I'll have pictures soon.

Darker than the Dark side?
MikesBike replied to MikesBike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On the example cited above by the guy from LA, did he use the existing rubber coupling and route tubes to them or did he make a flange attached to each head with welded tubes going to a central manifold? What kind of performance did he have? -
Darker than the Dark side?
MikesBike replied to MikesBike's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Exactly what Flyinfool said. I've spent the last two days trying to repair diaphragms with liquid tape, filling and refilling the bowl trying to set the float. Bench setting the sync all to find I've done something wrong; the carbs dump gas out the overflow like crazy. I just want something simple, I just want to ride... -
No, not thinking of putting a car tire on a 1st Gen. Instead, thinking about replacing the four carb mess with a single carburetor and manifold similar to what is done on the Goldwings. Has anyone tried this? Were you successful? Inquiring minds want to know.

After a week of thinking about my cover problem (well, I didn't think too hard) I came to the conclusion that there must be something about the cover causing the interference. The nagging thought that this lid weighed more than the one on the '86 I used to have and the '83 I played with for a while kept surfacing. First thing I did after getting home was look at the bottom of the lid and sure enough, someone had added a quarter inch thick layer of tar coated noise insulation. It had bubbled from years of heating and had separated from the cover in several places. This stuff was as stiff as a board and had caused the TCI to not fit. After removal, the TCI fits snug as a bug on top of the air box. Thanks David and Brad for all your help!

Well, I cut the tabs off this morning and tried it again. The fit was closer but still not enough to put the cover screw in. Is there an alternate mounting method without sticking it back under the battery? Any pictures or ideas appreciated.

Thanks Brad, I couldn't see any other way to make it fit but I had never seen it mentioned in any of the posts to cut off the tab. I guess it's possible that I just overlooked it... Thanks for your help!
