Been holding back all day, but I just gotta tell it now.
Rick Haywood replied to grubsie's topic in Watering Hole
Just my thoughts on this, as a bunch of you know I ride a lot of miles. I have put 170,000 miles on 2 different Ventures over the last 7 years and love the bikes. That being said after I totaled mine in May I decided I wanted to try something else. I bought a 2012 Vulcan 1700 Nomad and I gotta tell you it rides better and handles better than either of my ventures did. Not knocking the RSV because I love them and probably will own another one at some point. This is just an Obsevation on my part. Atually I was a liittle surprised at this -

If your plate is registered with I-Pass even if it doesn't work it sill looks up your plate and deducts. If you jave an I-Pass and you call even if your plate wasn't on there they will still only charge you the toll. Happened with my daughters car which is in my name but she lives in florida and she was in chicago ans \\d I got something like $160 in fines and I called and they said no problem since I had an I-Pass in my name. I have never had any issues in 8 years. In fact I Belong to Bikers Against Child Abuse and when we go up as a group I add all my brothers bikes to my list and when they bill me I get it back from them.

What Do Y'all Have Against Belt Drive Motorcycles?
Rick Haywood replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
I am guessing one dvantage at least for me is the Belt Drive won't lock up your back wheel if it breaks. -
No I wasn't able to. I did talk with the salvage yard and they said they got it in neutral and the back wheel/tire would only move about 4-5 inches either way before it stopped. I am guessing it was something with the driveshaft. Could be it was a tiny bit messed up from the original totaled wreck before I bought and rebuilt it. It never gave me any indications of a problem til it did what it did to cause the accident. Guess I will never know for sure

Thanks for the thought. But if you do not live in Illinois you do not need a broker. In Illinois you have to be licensed to buy salvage title
-
If you live here you can't buy it because of the salvage title. Plus if you live in Illinois the salvage yard can not sell it to you. You can go through a broker but it costs you $650 up front plus the cost of the bike. Not being able to buy it back was the reason I changed my mind on buying a venture I found. 06 midnight with 18,000 miles for $4500 but added up the cost to make it the way I wanted and decided against it. I also wanted fuel injected. I hope I made the correct decision. time will tell The wrecked bike I bought salvaged and rebuilt and I couldn't register the thing in Illinois because of their stupid laws. So I had to have a buddy title it in his name in Indiana as rebuilt then when he got the rebuilt title in Indian he sold the bike back for a $1 and zi then could title it in Illinois because it was rebuilt not salvage. Thanks Don I will keep you informed on the new bike. I also read the complaints about heat but can't imagine it being that hot since it is water cooled.

I have replaced the bike. Originally bought another Venture but the next day changed my mind and decided I wanted something different. so I bought this for $5,300 20,000 miles

I did forget It has the long light bar under the trunk (Brake and Tail light) It also has the custom dynamics LED light board tail light (89 LED"S) All the electric still work and the motor cranks but doesn't start I am sure something minor

As most know I totaled my Bike the 19th of May. In Illinois you can not buy a totaled bike back from your insurance company or a totaled bike from the salvage yard. Yea I know stupid **** right. Anyway it will be for sale by the salvage yard online and I believe it will go for very little money. It is loaded with extras I will try and list the stuff in case one of you might want to try and buy the thing. I'm thinking the thing may go for a few hundred dollars so here is the list Carb covers $90 twinkie covers $90 saddleman seat and passenger back rest $650 I have the drivers backrest here at the house I will send it if someone buys the bike Chrome tank mount covers $129 Trailer hitch $160 Carbon One crash bar braces $60 Tank Bib abd gas cap cover Ace High $275 Chrome side covers $160 Diamond Cut Silver heads $400 Access panel chrome covers $90 Diamond R Passenger Highway pegs $275 Bottom fork end cps Chrome $175 Chrome Luggage rack on trunk $209 The radio controller is still working $550 cost new if you can find used about $250 Brand new E3 tires front and back $325 wheels are still good Total $3638 I know I am forgetting a few things but this is a pretty good list If you want to know more please feel free to contact me. If you go to the salvage yards web site it will tell you what you need to do to bid link https://www.copart.com/lot/30249257/ COPART ATTN: LOT# 30249257 451 BLACKHAWK TRAIL RD ELDRIDGE, IA 52748

I am hoping to get a look at it as soon as I can move a little. Plus I want to see if i can take a couple accessories off the bike that a person can't buy any longer.
-
I want to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts. I am surely a lucky man when you look at the bike. I willy to find out ewhat happen to cause the wheel to lock up but i n Illinois you cant buy back a totaled vehicle, Just hope the insurance picks up all the accessories. Some of which can not be bought anymore. Maybe I can talk who, ever to let ,e take those of the bike. As for me I will heal but dam I feel like i have run over by 2 trains. Can't move without help but that will heal. now the task of tracking down a new bike

I am blessed that I am here to be able to post this. Had something break on the bike and lock up the back wheel in the rain yesterday. According to the guys I was riding with the bike started fish tailing and I lost control went into the ditch and flipped the bike end over end 2 times and I stayed on the bike until the second flip. At that time the bike came to a sudden stop but I didn't, slammed chest first into what was left of the fairing and dash. Anyway I survived and thank God my wife wasn't on the bike with me. Ended up very very very sore. Feels like I fought a big train and lost. Banged up chest, knee, very sore neck and a broken back. But I am alive.

Jeff Mine did something similar last year on the way to Sturgis. Came out of the motel by Mitchell, SD pulled the clutch lever in and nothing no pressure. I checked the fluid level and it was bone dry. Looked under the bike and no leaks. Scratched my head bought some fluid filled it up bleed the system and off I went. That was about 20,000 miles ago and I have had no problems since and the fluid level was still up when I changed the fluid last month. So i figured if it ain't broke don't fix it.
-
By the way I believe I will change mine every 4,000 miles as I have been doing for 45 years, seems to work as I have never had any engine troubles on anything I drive or ride.

Jeff what does the guy do that puts 300,000 miles a year on his van? that is 875 miles per day every day of the year

Don, Have him turn his hanlebars all the way left. Go to right side and look just below the air valve for the right fork on the neck qet a flashlight and he will see it. Gotta get down on one knee and kind of look up to see it -
SKID i LOST ONE OF MINE AND i JUST TOOK THER OTHER SIDE OUT AND WENT TO ACE AND BOUGHT A COUPLE OF THEM. I also then put lock tight on them to keep the from getting loose
