Mounting lights

Freaking awesome. I'm doing the rear. -
5 years and loving it. I will admit to occasionally looking at the new Ultra Classic Harleys but every time I do it's like looking at another woman and then looking back at my wife and thinking, yeah, she ain't as purty as she used to be 30 years ago but damn can she cook.

Mounting lights

I also added a handlebar mounted switch to turn them on and off as needed but I wouldn't worry too much about the 35 watt bulbs. I did worry about the 55 watt bulbs, but unless you have a lot of extra stuff pulling wattage you should not have any issues. I do like the idea of LED markers. Dang you, now I'll have to do more mods. -

I also replaced the bulbs with 35 watt bulbs as the 55 watt ones got pretty hot. Got the bulbs at Home Despot for $7. -

Your bike comes with a mounting bracket already. There are 2 reflectors, one on each side of your front forks. Remove the reflectors and use the holes to mount the Platinum Burners. Run the hot wires up and under the tank, mount your relay with some double sided 3M tape near the battery and ground them to the mounting bolts. I have attached pics. Mine work great. Be sure to use an inline fuse also. -
Platinum Burners
cipher1300 replied to cipher1300's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For now, I removed the reflectors that are located on the front fork and I had to open the screw hole a little bit on the bracket, and I have them mounted there. I ordered a rocker switch that mounts on the handlebars and am currently in the process of wiring and of course, using a relay. When I get it done, I'll post pictures. I didn't like the idea of mounting them on the highway bars because I couldn't hide the wiring good enough. My ideal place would be to mount them on the turn signal bar but I could not find any P clamps skinny enough to fit between the little plastic chrome cover and the wind deflector bracket. -

Also, if anybody has an OEM switch cover for a 2nd gen Venture they'd be willing to part with, I am interested in experimenting with one to mount the rocker switch in. -

Sounds goo but how to I wire it and where is a good place to mount the switch and relay? -

True, but would I need the on/off rocker switch as well as the relay? -

Better yet, could I just use the relay and have them come on with the bike and off when I turn off the bike and leave the rocker switch out of the picture? -
I just bought a set of the Platinum Burners from Wally World and have a few questions. I am constantly reading about putting in a relay and am wondering why. If I connect these to the battery with an inline fuse and always remember to turn them off, what would be the problem? I don't want then wired into the headlight system, I want them wired separately so I don't understand the relay. Second, if anybody else has these, where in the world did you mount the little rocker switch? I currently have the lights mounted on the front fork reflector brackets but saw a post where someone had mounted them on the turn signal bar but how? I'd rather have them there. Any help offered is greatly appreciated. Wiring diagrams would be nice also. Thanks.

LA Choppers Slip Ons
cipher1300 replied to cipher1300's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After I put on the slip ons, I think they are leaking at the header. I noticed my original pipes had a sort of gasket and was wondering if there is something I could use as a gasket on the new slipons. Any suggestions are appreciated. -

OK. I could not wait until the genuine LA Chopper baffle pack kit got here so I went to my local Tractor Supply store and bought 2- 7 foot long 1/2 inch stove ropes, and wrapped the baffles. I secured each end of the rope onto the baffles using a piece of copper wire and fired her up. It was a huge difference. Nice deep rumble at idle and a real growl and throttle. Still a little popping when I let off on gas so I may have to plug ais. If the stove rope holds up, I think the wife may let me keep them. If not, well, I sure am going to miss her. -

Heck, I never thought about it that way....maybe I should just remove the baffles all the way? -

LA Choppers have a nice deep rumble at idle and while cruising but when you get on it, they are quite loud. I also have a lot of popping when gearing down or up. If anybody has suggestions on how or what to use to wrap the baffles to quiet them down and how to stop the popping I would really be grateful. Otherwise, I will just sell them because I don't think my wife will like the noise. I really like the sound but she likes to chit chat while riding. -

Well, it seems there are very few people here with the LA Chopper slip ons so I bit the bullit and they will arrive tommorrow. I will install them, get pics and sound bytes and post them as soon as I can. Hopefully it will help others,,,,,that is if I like them. If not it may sway others into not buying them. Either way, I will be chasing every UPS truck I see tomorrow and will test them on the Cherohala Skyway this Sat. If aybody wants to join, give me a yell. There'll be a few Harleys but we keep it slow enough so they can keep up. -
I have searched the forums for info on the LA Chopper slip ons but not mush out there. Does anybody have these and do you like them?

Just bought a new Avon rear tire and had it mounted today. The shop that mounted it told me that the tire needed 2 oz. of weights to make it balanced and that was very unusual and he even suggested I got a bad tire. On a side note, he tried to sell me something called dynobeads?. Anyhow, is it true about a new tire being bad if it needs 2 oz of weights and what is dynobeads?

Looking for some feedback
cipher1300 replied to ranger391's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have installed a set of saddlebag rails, a cup holder for me, mp3 player, and then I leave her at home on the couch where she is the most comfortable. That way when she does go riding, she never complains. -
Kill Switch Noise

Yes, it is odd. I also worry when the stealer tells me something is "normal" or "nothing to worry about" etc., then I know for sure something is wrong.
