Front wheel bearings are gone
SteveW replied to Brake Pad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
They make Jetski's for riding in that much water in Fl. -
I would check the connection in the faring where the switch is tied in with the power source. Who ever installed mine used one of those slipover wire conectors and it lost contact where it was tied into the switch. I sodered it and no more problem.

I had a noise like that onmy 2005 when I got it used.Come to find out when the last owner ( or Shop ) changed the oil filter they caught the side of the AIS air box next to the oil filter and bend the cover down at the corner. It would puff exhaust and sound like a knock. I took the box off and fixed the lid cover. Noise gone almost sounded like a rattle in the exhaust pipe. Hope this helps, at least its something to check. Steve

Any tips for removing lower cowlings
SteveW replied to dogman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On the inside of the lowers about 1/2 way down torward the outside there is a allen head bolt that has to be removed. ( Don't pull on the lowers you may break the bolt bracket.) total of 3 allen head bolts on each side and the plug bolt in the bottom middle. -
I just flushed all the fluids on my 2005 RSV this weekend. Its been a year and they needed it. It was getting alittle hard to down shift now its smooth again. I picked up a one man bleeder at Auto Zone for 6.00 and it works great. Easy to use with the collection bottle. It does a great job at cleaning the system. Steve

Hi Annie I have the car tire on the back of my Venture but the hack has a 13-90-16 MC tire on it. Very little wear showing on the hack tire. I just put an Avon Venom rear tire on the front today and it handles great. If he can find a Car tire for the hack I'm sure it will work just need to find one with the right rim size. If he has a 15 inch rim then a 155 or 165 - 15 should work fine. Steve

I just got back from a 1500 mile round trip to South Fl. running 75 to 90 most of the way. I'm using the Vredestein 155-15 on my rear and with the hack it was a real nice smooth ride. The Vredestein only has a single ply sidewall and took aroung 90 lbs. to seat on the rim. It has a nice thread design and after the trip it looks like it was just put on I am running 42 lbs. in mine. I think its a keeper. Keep it between the ditches

Hang in there John. Just keep up with the PT. and you will be riding in no time. Glad to here your doing well. Steve

You will really like it in a month or so and glad you did it. I had mine replaced 6 mo,'s ago and should have had it done years ago. No pain and like it was when I was in my 20's. Just make sure you do your rehab. Take it easy for awhile and you will do fine. Steve

Hi BJ I have a 2005 also with the chirp and would have to say most of the RSV's have some of this noise. I switched to 20-50 Yahamalube semi syn. and it has cut the chirp by 1/2 anyway. Turn up the tunes and run some bub pipes and all is well. Also over 65 on mine with it in 4th gear is real smooth and quiet. Enjoy the ride and congrats on your new bike. If they haven't tried a I clutch basket on it it might help. Steve

I did a change out a few weeks ago and used Yahamalube semi syn. 20-50. I'll use it for the summer at least and the engine whine noise was cut in half. I'm headed to Fl.on Sunday to visit the kids in Marco Island so a long highway trip down I-75 at 80 0r so I thing the 20-50 will not thin out as much with the heat. Anyone in Fl. want to meet up. Well I got this bike used with 19,000 miles on it. I never felt it had the power in 4 and 5th gear that my 99 had. Now since I have the sidecar on it I thought that its just the extra weight and I'll live with it. The dealership I got it from wasn't any help. I decided to change out the #3 coil ( right rear ) since it seems to get the most heat and that is the one that most of you have had trouble with. I got a used set off of ebay and switched out #3 ( which is a pain if you have big hands ). Anyway the bike runs like it has never run before. It runs like a new bike with plenty of power. I can even put it in 5th at 50 without any lugging down. It seems like a bad design to put the rear coils where they did with all the heat and road dirt and water. They are going to send my old coil in for warrenty so I will at least have a new one if this one gives out. Much more fun to ride with all 4 cyl. working :dancefool::dancefool:
