If you look at your rear brake you can tell if it has a lowering kit by the possition of the brake caliper. If it is mounted below the swing arm it is lowered. If it is up behind the bags if probably wasn't lowered.

Lets face it the RSV is a great highway bike but it don't handle worth a darn at low speed,Everyone here has a defferent oppion as to what to do to fix the problem. The real porblem is Yamaha has been making the same bike with the same problems for 12 years and hasn't done a damn this to to fix these problems.Don't get me wrong,I real like my bike but we shouldn't have to make all these mods after all these years to get the thing right.

Yep,you guys are right,it's a barons lowering kit.I looked it up on the barons site.I bought the bike a couple months ago and i can't talk to the original owner cus he past away. The romming charge would be a killer! Thanks again for all your help.

:confused24:OK,I just finished servicing the final drive on my 99 RSV.I used instructions I down loaded from this site, everything worked out just fine until I noticed that my brakes are not mounted the same way as the brakes in the pictures in the instructions.my rear calipers are mounted below the swing arm.Ever picture and diagram i have seen shows the caliper mounted above the swing arm.my mounting bracket is totally different.everthing hangs below the swing arm.Can anyone explain this????

2011 RSV on Yamaha web site
steamer replied to DONATALIE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't think most people are looking for major changes to the venture.I believe most would like to just see up dates to the fuel system, the handling, the electronics, the braking system and option packages.every other company is up dating there bikes.Don't you think it's about time Yamme makes a great bike better? -
Looks like they had a bunch of 2010 "s" models sitting around and are calling them 2011's.I work for a John Deere dealer, thats what JD does when they are getting ready to come out with a new model. They sell off everything they can before they reless the new model.Don't be surprised if yamaha comes out with the new model later this year.Or i could be way off base and they will cancel the touring line like kawasaki did.

Can anyone tell me why i get a single click on deceleration between 35 an 45 mph.I,m not on the brakes ,not shifting, not touching the clutch, just slowing down.It sounds like an electrical relay opening or closing.Bike run fine,no other problems, just a click. Can't tell exactly where its coming from.

It's not the brand,it's the people that work there.most people these days just show up at work to collect a pay check. They don't give two hoots about the job or the customers.

My bike had just about every problem posted here on the forum.I've been reading all of the tech threads and have fixed several problems already, thanks to all the great info here.I had a bad popping issue when I first got the bike, biggest problem was a cracked "Y" pipe.I picked up a new exhaust system from pinwall for $200.00.changed out the bad pipe and the poping was not as bad but still there.Did a carb sync, got a little better.I suspect the after market mufflers are the cause of whats left of the popping.I also pluged the AIS this just made it the worse, took the plugs out.I to believe if it ain't broke don't fix it.It was designed that way for a reason.I'm going to put the stock mufflers on that I picked up at pinwalls and see what that does.Theres a lot of great info here, don't sweat the small stuff it's all in fun.

Set up your carbtune just like the instructions say to.If it's not set up properly it will bounce so bad you won't be able to get an accuate reading.
-
Just did mine for first time,a lot of bounce if the idle is low.I increased the idle until the bounce settled out.It didn't take much, worked great after that.

I'm 55,or will be soon.been riding 4 years,just a rookie.Just picked up a 99 RSV two weeks ago, love'n it! First bike is a vulcan 900 LT.look'n for a buyer.
