Thanks Don. The biggest problem with the air bags is they leak down over a couple days. You have to pump them back up every couple days. To many conections to deal with.
-
Don, isn't your conversion a motortrike? If so let me know how the progressive air shocks work out. I'm not crazy about the air bag system I have now.

Must be magic. There I wasn't, Now I is.

That can't be it, I'm not there either.

This is the problem we we're talking about over on trike talk. If you go with manufacter spec's there may not be enough oil in the rear to properly lube the axle bearings.
-
Since your rearend is independent suspenion I recommend you go with what ever Hannigan calls for. I have a solid axcel rearend. They may have a reason for not filling all the way to the fill hole. I think your right to think the oil on your rearend came from somewhere else.

omg! omg!omg! I don't feel so good. Please make it go away....aaaaarrrrrggg!!!!

Ok, we had a very long and intense discussion on trike talk about this very thing. It seems that most trike rearends are mounted up side down. When they are filled at initial installation, they are filled with the amount of lube that is recommended by the manufacturer when installed in a car. So if it calls for 3 qts when in a car the oil level should be about 1/4" below the fill hole. but when installed up side down it will be out the reach of your finger. However we have found that if you fill it to just below the fill hole is will still be ok and should not cause any problems. If it is over filled you will get some blow by from the vent tube, this is ok. If you fill to the fill hole it is probably better for your wheel bearings. most of us with ford rearends are filling them to with in 1/4" of the fill hole with no problems. Now with that said, I still don't know what that stuff is on our trike.

Good point. Are you going to post a how to on you set up?
-
Did you check the oil level in the differential? That suff looks to dry to be dif oil. Did you look at the front seal for leakage?
-
Correct me if I,m wrong and I know someone will, but isn't our fuel system a none recirculating system? Doesn't the pump just pump fuel to the carb bowels with no return to the tank? If so, then way can't you just tee into the fuel line at the tank petcock valve, install a valve, run the line to the aux tank. This way you can use the stock pump to draw from either tank. Just open one valve and close the other as needed.

Does mounting a rear tire on the front change the handling? Or just last longer?
-
I think I,m going to stay with the 235/60 15 radials. I think thats the only tire size motortrike recommends.
-
The BF Goodrich must be the tire Motortrike uses at inital install. I have the same tires on my trike. It has a dunlop 421 on the front, I think. The front is in good shape but the rear are worn in the center. Probably been on since it was triked. Guess its due for new rear tires.
