For sending out the shim kit in such short order. Everything went relatively smooth with the disassembly and the shim replacement was rather easy thanks to V7gooose's instructions. The hardest part of the whole process is putting the bike back together. I do have to say, I don't know way goose recommends removing the carbs, except to do a cleaning and setting the floats since your already this deep into it. I had no problem at all doing the valves with the carbs still installed. But as Goose said, if you haven't done the carbs before then this is a good time to take care of them. I did my floats last season and really didn't want to remove them again. Thanks again to Earl and Goose, and everyone else who has posted tech info on this great forum. Without you guys my bike would probably be a big pile of scrap metal by now.
First gen, second gen, wing it don't matter, they all need to be worked on. They all need tires, battery's tune ups, carb cleaning, shocks, seals, lube,.....you get the picture. You could always buy a HD:rotfl:
I've been told the oil is due to to high of a oil level in the motor and the crank case breather will suck some of that oil into the air box. It has been suggested to keep the oil level at about the half way point in the sight glass to reduce this problem. The reason it is collecting in the lower left of the air box is because that is the low point when the bike is on the side stand. If you do a search here on the sight you should find more info on this.
Carl, do I have a deal for you. We have a smoking room with 2 full size beds and would be more then happy to trade that nasty non smoking room with the way to big king bed for our cozy smoking room?
:sign yeah that:What Big Tom said. Good time, good friends, good food and no one got hurt, except we did almost take out a turkey that flew in front of our windshield on the ride home. Had a great time Ben. Hope to see you guys again soon.
Been there, done that. Ended up with a full trike. Wife LOVES IT! She liked the Voyager kit also. I didn't like riding the bike solo with the kit on and didn't like going through all the hassle taking it off and putting it back on.
All the vents I've seen are pretty low on the shield, can't see how it could be in the line of sight. I believe they are directional so maybe if you aim it at your face then yes, you might eat some bugs.
