  1. So, after doing some searching, I came up empty handed. Of the 1stGen crowd, who has successfully used one of these lifts? Did you make any mods or just stick it under the exhaust and start lifting? I reckon I'm a little worried if I just try it, it might crush the exhaust somewhat. Thoughts? Haha. Looks like I should have reviewed this posting before adding to it again. Cabreco was more or less wondering the same thing: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=679864&postcount=19
  2. I think most of us would say that's a pretty reasonable deal considering all the goodies you could sell off of it.
  3. Yup, I do realize that. I generally don't ride it all that hard (rarely above 5K rpm), so I'm not too worried about it. There oughta be enough oil slinging around everywhere to provide adequate lube. Done at least 2 oil changes since that hole and haven't seen anything unusual (such as metal hunks, bearing rollers, connecting rods, wrist pins, etc.) floating around so I reckon I'm safe... so far. I did notice a new "noise" that wasn't there before the whole series of procedures (starter clutch mod, oil passage enlargement, valve clearance ck, motor out of frame for all of the above & serious cleaning/degreasing, etc.) was complete. Between gears, mostly on moderate to heavy-ish accel when the engine is wound up good over say 4000, I can hear a somewhat metallic sounding ... uhhh, "sound" (???) as the engine drops in revs. It sounds quite a bit like when the wastegate on a turbo is blowing off extra squeeze... a cross between pneumatic release and a slight metallic rattle to it too. Part of me wondered if it was that little "special washer" under the stator cover- maybe getting nudged up against something as a result of more oil flow toward or against it (?). You'd have to hear it- it's a little difficult to describe accurately. Only happens during moderate to heavy accel, during the upshift when the clutch lever is pulled in. I'm nearing 10000 miles since all that work was done and nothing has let go, so I can't imagine it's anything serious. Hmm. Didn't mean to hijack this thread. Just general conversation & mild mind-probing.
  4. I increased the diameter of that oil hole very slightly when I did my starter clutch mod. I figured a little extry oil flow certainly wouldn't hurt anything. Original vs. drilled:
  5. Plug the black lead into the lower left hole, the red lead into the lower right hole. Turn the dial to the 10:00 position (DC 50V) and touch the lead probes to the battery posts. Simple as that.
  6. I more or less replicated the procedure that the video shows, except my engine was still in frame. Do exactly what he does and it'll work just fine. Don't be afraid to keep tightening on the puller.... it'll take a LOT of torque. I think I whanged the end of the puller twice and mine popped right off just like the video.

  8. Also check out "By Any Means" (starring Charley only). Personally I can't stand the twit, but the worldwide adventure of it is pretty interesting.
  9. Yah, do that inside one of those ultrasonic cleaner deals. I'ma try that when I hit the 100k mark. Or maybe at the end of this season- we'll see.

  11. Headlight auto adjuster.
  12. Believe it or not, that rant under the video came about as a result of my efforts/comments at the time (which were conveniently removed by the user). I tried to get a bunch of the other motorbike forum (to which I belonged) members to help me out in posting disapproving comments. He didn't take too kindly to that and changed the video description/info. I reckon I'm the morally superior internet "item" that he called out. What an ayhole.
  13. Jam a vacuum cap in between the vanes to keep them open. Works fine.
  14. Blasphemy! Nobody could come up with 20 things they "hate" about a gen1!
  15. Put a blob of JB Weld or some other such permanent epoxy at the contact point. I had exactly the same problem you're describing and this cured it.
  16. That's a good possibility. Glad it worked out for both of us. I picked that tip up from somebody else on this forum... it was back a considerable ways and I don't recall exactly where but it seemed a good idea.
  17. Stop teasing us with those sneak peeks of your new paint job! :bang head::stickpoke:
  18. That's pretty much exactly what I did, and I thought I had made a post to that effect somewhere in this thread but it may have been in a different thread since I don't see that I contributed to this one yet. Total cost of copper: $9 No detectable leaks. I didn't use the hightemp RTV though- just metal to metal.
  19. Page 46? Go into your userCP (edit options) and change the max # of posts per page setting thing. I've got mine set to max and this thread is 14 pages long as a result.
  20. There are pictures on this very same page, as a matter of fact. Post # 681
  21. Looks to be about the intelligence equivalent of this mental giant: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd9Xy3A-8ac]2009 Vmax sleepy ride through atlanta - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Mmmm.... Doorriiiittoooossss...
  23. I would agree with that. I think without the polarized lenses it'd be painfully blinding. I'm definitely glad to have them.
  24. I'm not bashin anybody or their advice, but I'll tell you from experience that polarized lenses don't solve it all. I always wear my (polarized) sunnies when I ride in the daylight- sunny, cloudy, don't matter. If the sun is up my specs are on. I still get considerable glare from the instrument panel. I think it's one of those "that's just the way it is" type things. The combination of the materials used and the angle of reflection... = bright glare in your face. Just set your cruise at a comfortable pace & forget about the dash. You'll know when you need gas cuz the engine will quit.
  25. Turn around and ride the other direction.
