  1. Allow me to present another alternative. I mounted my R/R to the underside of the "tank cover" using 2 stainless bolts and acorn nuts. I had to make some extensions for the wiring of it and then wrapped all the bundles in heatshrink tubing. Pic1 shows what it looks like from the outside/top. Pic 2 shows the ground wire that I connected from the R/R to the tank cover mounting bolt at the rear. Whether this ground was necessary or not I don't know, but I included it for good measure. Pic 3 actually shows the R/R mounted to the underside of the cover. Pic 4 shows the ventholes I cut in the front of the tank cover with the idea that it would help introduce cooling airflow along the underside of the cover, blowing across the battery top (keeping it cooled some) and directly over the R/R and probably allowing somewhat cooler air to enter the airbox opening as well. This is just a guess- no scientific measurements were made before and after as to the airflow temperature in that vicinity.

  4. Once the pads are out, if you've got a fair amount of strength in your hands you can actually force the pistons back in by (2x)thumb pressure. You gotta push pretty hard, but they'll go back in. Mine did, anyway.
  5. Had this happen to me today too- gave me a start cuz I was riding down a gravel road in pretty warm conditions. Stopped right away and saw that there was still oil in the window, so I nervously pressed on. For those of you who have been through here before- was the sender faulty? What was the ultimate repair? I've done as a couple others did and grounded the lead for now/til next oil change.
  6. I just did this again between yesterday and today... sort of. Filled up yesterday with 10% ethanol junk from Mobil (I almost always run ethanol free if I can), didn't get gas today until 220.6 miles and still only took on 4.805 gallons. That comes out to 45.9mpg. However, almost every bit of that was under 65mph with quite a bit of it being under 60. Been said lots of times before- speed does make a huge difference.
  7. Most of us should be capable of around 180 185 190 195 miles before we should REALLY start worrying. I ran out at 220 a couple weeks ago in a mixture of 65 and 55mph speed limit highways.

  9. I have a very lightly used Slipstreamer for sale. Got a couple very minor dings in it- none of which are really in the line of vision in the first place. PM me an email address and I can send you full size pics and negotiate pricing.
  10. DON'T USE A PRESSURE WASHER!!!!!!!!!!!! :no-no-no:
  11. So Dan, here's a question that hasn't yet been asked. Or if it has, it was eons ago and I'm not searching thru 763 posts to find it... Will each Venture have its own cell? Will the windows have bars on them?
  12. Stock front is 120/90/18 or MR90. Going to 130 would be going up, not down.
  13. BTW I did go ahead and purchase one anyway. It's just a matter of using it as is or devising some sort of adapter, depending on IF ANY FIRST GEN OWNERS EVER GET AROUND TO TELLING US THEIR SUCCESS STORIES OR NOT.
  14. That's kind of the way I was thinking of doing it, except my chin spoiler is off/out of the way. Here's my thought process. Let's say the bike weighs "800" lbs. There will be a minimum of 3, and perhaps 4 points of contact with the lift in question. That brings the average point of contact weight to somewhere in the 200 to 270-lbs-each range. That's not all that unreasonable. Or if you were to stick the back leg of the lift immediately under the collector, there's a LOT of surface area there to take the load. However, I don't really want to be the guinea pig and smash the "new" (to me) collector I just put on last year. Let's wait for some other 1st genners to chime in with their success stories.
