Are you thinking like one of the hydraulic surge type or more along the lines of electric? I guess it's not out of the question.

Few more questions
Keemez replied to Reddog170's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Depending on which exhaust gaskets you're talking about, have a look at this thread (the final post in particular). I followed the advice in the final post and saved myself $50, which was only for 3 out of 6 gaskets. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38717&highlight=solder -
Add some trailer brakes too! Er- that's probably not feasible in a situation like this.

Missing 4th and 5th Gear
Keemez replied to uthpda's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This got me to thinking. I currently have the powerplant out of my 93. Tackling several projects at once and even though it's a lot of work to remove the engine, that will give me much more workspace and ease of access for everything. As part of this process I am giving the entire outer engine a thorough cleaning/degreasing and in so doing the whole thing has been rotated and manipulated into any number of positions: right side up, left side up, bottom side up, diagonal, sideways, upways, downways, etc. I've been careful not to jar anything... all the tipping has been cautious and gentle. But I didn't give a whole lot of thought to what might happen when it's on its side or upside down- is it likely that things could fall out of place inside the transmission and I'd not know it til I got everything back on/in bike and then discovered a similar issue? Would that be more likely to happen during a more "violent" tipping such as being laid down or falling over? I'd be pretty aggravated with myself if I had to tear everything all apart again for that reason. -
Inputs for hard start condition

On a related note I have also found that sometimes it helps to try seating the connector inward (together) more firmly before trying to release the lock tab. I think what was happening for me was simultaneous pulling of the connector while trying to release the lock tab... causing a bind at the lock tab itself. I've had much better recent success with the alternate method instead. Once you get it apart and get some MLO (moisture lock out) in there it will be easier in the future.

Yessir, that is precisely my intent (already read this thread about 3 times). Interesting (and noteworthy) observation.

Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee

!!!!!!!!!!! Are you texting and motorbiking, buster? -
So, I yank everything up front all apart this afternoon to do the starter ground (& replace exhaust collector; rewire the cooling fan to a switch instead of stock), right? Turns out to my surprise that this one's already got a 4brush starter in it. Somebody musta swapped the original out already I reckon. Wellp, I'm in this far- might as well see if I can tack on an additional gnd while I'm at it.

There was another thread recently which discussed places to get eth-free gas. Rather than take the time to search for the thread here's the direct link to the site which lists where you can get pure gas- accuracy not withstanding. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp

Slipstreamer doesn't appear to have anything taller than Clearview. I'm pretty sure I've got a Clearview 22.5 on bike right now (it was replaced before I took delivery). I do see the monster one that Clearview offers, which would no doubt be bigger than what I have. F4 has nothing (that I can find) for 1st gens. Cee Bailey's has 22s and 24s (comparable to Clearview). The one in the video looks to be even wider (and taller) than the Clearview GT25. I sent the guy on youtube a message asking about it- hopefully he'll both know exactly what it is and answer me with same. Thx for any and all input in the meantime though.

What type of windscreen is on this 1st gen? It's enormous- I want one! I much prefer very little wind buffeting. There's always plenty of airflow, even on hot days. Most power washers have to be in the low pressure mode to dispense solvents and cleaners like you're trying to do. Make sure the business end of the wand is on the low power mode and soap will eventually come out. Then switch over to blast mode and hammer the daylights out of your equipment.... as long as it isn't your Venture.

loud clunk when starting...
Keemez replied to Hfab5's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The only problem is that it is inaccurate. Synthetic oil is no more slippery than regular dino oil. Its main advantage is its superior stability and (enhanced) resistance to detrimental forces. Google up on some of the synthetic oil myths & such- there's lots of info out there about this. I submit that the starter clutch failures were purely coincidental and would have happened anyway. -

Hard drive magnets are an excellent choice for this purpose. I use them on all my stuff. -
New location for driving light mounts
Keemez replied to Flyinfool's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have one pair of lights mounted in the area you're talking about... simple bolt with a locknut on the inside. Had to bend the mounting bracket a bit to fit the contour of the fairing, but that's not all that difficult to do if you practice a little patience. Doesn't seem to wobble around or vibrate that I can tell, although my lights are probably significantly lighter/smaller than what you got. Notice that I have white LED H3s in place of the standard 55w halogens. They aren't all that spectacularly bright but they do cast some general light forward and make it more visible. Let me know if you want some more pics. -
I put 48 LED bulbs in mine (tail/brake) but they did not operate as dual filament bulbs. I wound up having to grind the contact points of the bulbs considerably to get them just to fit into the socket and they were either on or off only. I had to add an external flexible LED strip to gain running light feature back (tapped into the blue wire in the tail bucket)... and I also have an upper running light (LED) mounted to the trunk tied into that same circuit. Be wary of anything coming from overseas (which most of it does). It might work but it may require modification like mine did. I'm happy with my final result but it involved some effort and additional expense. At a minimum I wouldn't use anything less than 24 LED configurations.

Proper Voltage Reading
Keemez replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To a very minimal degree, yes. I found that mine weren't bright enough no matter what I did. My project got scrapped and went back to stock for the regular 4 instrument backlights. -
That and... make sure you take your cell outta the pocket before you iron...... ECK. :stickpoke:

Proper Voltage Reading
Keemez replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There are four that are on all the time, then 2 turnsig/1 neutral/1 high beam/1 headlamp (all intermittent). Swapping instrumentation lighting to LED has been with mixed success.
