My fuel pump did the same. It would fail every few weeks, start again after it cooled, than it failed completely on a trip to Sturgis. It should not be frustrating. the next time it fails, remove the side cover and touch the pump. I'll bet its hot.

Repacking steering and swingarm bearings

You gotta understand,,, letting people know that you live in California is embarrassing, but at the same time, it's really nice to be able to ride all year long... -
Repacking steering and swingarm bearings
wizard replied to aspen60's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I never understood why some would go to all of the work involved to repack the neck bearings every couple thousand miles. I will tighten the front end when it needs it, and when they need replacing, then I'll I will go through all the work involved to get to em. It makes for more riding time, but, then again, I live in California. -
I think they changed the name to Original Spirits???I like it because it works and is about 1/3 the cost of Plexus. The last time I bought it at Honda it was less than $6.00 a can. Plexus was $17.00 a can!!!

Stalled and sweaty, why?
wizard replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It sounds like a failed fuel pump. -
It's really sad, or a sign that the times are changing, when its necessary to hire a lawyer when we modify or change out an item on our scoots. There was a time when we modified our bikes to make them a reflection of our individualism. There were few bikers than, but as the population changed, we are seeing more riders that are really nothing more than posers. Along with these posers, come the safety Nazis who would like nothing more than to save and protect us, passing laws, such as mandatory helmet usage, special endorsement licenses, limiting horse power, and top speed and so on. It looks like we are headed in a direction where we will not be able to modify a bike in any way. The kids today are now in a situation where they can't have a motorcycle because they might ingest a lethal dose of lead. Somebody save me.

Caring less about how I look, more if I survive...
wizard replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
OK, I gotta tell you, I don't really care how you look either. -
I'm surprised that riders will continue to ride with the fear they are going to crash and burn. Its no surprise that they are involved in regulating the ways we do ride.

Do any of you guys like the Venture model? Just wondering...

I agree with what Mel wrote. What bike were you riding? Maybe you should think about purchasing a good steering damper.

Cracked windshield tabs
wizard replied to ediddy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've been to several Yamaha dealers for warranty work, a bad fuel pump and a broken tab on the lower fairing, and never had any issues with them. Both times they actually went out of their way to help me. One pulled a pump from a bike on the sales floor to help me. This is another reason I switched from Harley, though I hear Harley dealers have changed in the last couple of years. -
I lowered the front end when I put the BFG tire on the rear. That was about 30000 miles ago and still no wobble.

Jerry, I've been running 34 psi 2up and 1up. No complaints at all.

I'd be interested. I'm looking for a rack right now. Any suggestions?

I noticed play in the shock mountings when I replaced my first rear tire at around 5 or 6000 miles. It's a side to side play on my bike. It hasn't been a problem for me yet.

Why do you think its a poor design by Yamaha? I've found the rear break to be more than adequate. The wear on the pads seems "normal" to me, and after 45,000 miles, the rotors are still fine. Just wondering...

I used Pledge for a while, but the wax buildup bothered me. I ended up using Novis cleaner to remove the buildup and now use Plexis.

I rather enjoyed the movie. And when I'm all dressed up my in leathers, standing next to my Venture, they say I look like Peter Fonda.

Dang! I've been using K&N filters since I can remember, and I've never lost any motor vehicle to any kind of failure. But, this conversation makes me kinda wonder how long the vehicles lasted after I sold them. Every once in a while I see my old Couger on the road, but I never get an opportunity to talk to the guy.

A buddy and I test road the Vision this year when the trailer was brought to Bakersfield. I really enjoyed the ride, about 60 miles on twistys and slabs. But, unlike you, I heard the top end of the motor, I thought quite a bit of noise. Not like my Venture at all. As a matter of fact, since I've been using motorkote, My Venture is almost as quiet as a Harley motor when it comes to top end noise. I also felt quite a bit of gear lash, which I had thought would have been eliminated by the belt drive. The Vision felt tireless at speeds above 85 mph, not even like it was trying hard at all, unlike the Venture, which I've always thought as a little buzzy above those speeds. If it wasn't for the air cooled motor, I would definitely consider the Vision as a touring bike, with the addition of a trailer.

I changed mine out cause I like loud pipes.

Wow! How tall are you? You make that Venture look small.
