From what I understand, it will cause the tire to squirm a little bit more in a corner. The more little squares on the tire the more it will squirm. People usually do this for better traction in the rain. It will route the water out from underneath the tire faster and more completly.

The more drama they include in the reports, the more attention they draw. Just look at the news on TV today. It makes me sick! It seems that nobody in the news media reports just the facts anymore.

How about the chains on their tires. I wonder if the chains would clear my shaft drive case. Na, probably not with the BF Goodrich tire I have on the back.

Good gawd! What a group of people! Thats gotta be a tough people to attend a rally like that. But you can't call it a biker rally, I didn't see any Harleys. I'd love to attend a rally like that. Kinda reminds me of some of the ralleys we had in the 70's.

I really don't think this story is about the biker, but about the people that held his money for him. We hear about the few who are in it for a profit, or personal gain at all costs, but I believe that the majority of us care about what is right and true. But who wants to broadcast whats good and honest...it doesn't sell or make a profit! -
I always wore a helmet when I rode my dirt bikes because I expected to crash, but never wore one on the streets. When the law was passed in California, I couldn't believe it. It took several warnings, and 1 ticket, which I tried to fight...and lost, before I "adjusted" to it.

"Some people (pedestrians) just seem to figure that they have the right of way...no matter what and the vehicle driver should just stop for them regardless." This seems to be true everywhere, even parking lots. Eventually, the pedestrians learn they are not coming out of a collision with a moving vehicle on the positive side. They usually find out just how sensitive they really are, their feelings seem to get hurt whether you honk at em or hit em.

It really is a odd feeling when the bike goes out from under you at such low speed. I think I will avoid ice from now on!!! I thought it was way to warm for ice.

A buddy and I left Tehachapi for Kernville on a mild 50 degree day yesterday. We were on the lower creek road thru Caliente to avoid the ice on the higher mountain road called the Lions Tail. We came to a corner in the shadow of trees, when I saw the ice completely across the road. I was able to slow the bike, but as soon as I hit the ice, I went down. My buddy said I went down very gracefully...the bike and I slid about a hundred feet, on the ice. Not a scratch on me! No worn spots on my leathers and the only parts damaged on the bike was the front and rear crash bars. Both are ground down about 1/2 to 3/4 thru. They did the job they were supposed to do. Oh yea, the front lower shroud separated at the bottom when the crash bar bent rearward. It really was a E ticket ride sliding on the ice like that. A car full of kids stopped to watch us trying to pick the bike up on the ice, but did not try to help...I suppose just as well. It had to be quite a site! We ran into several other spots of black ice in the canyons, which really surprised me when it was so warm, but the locals were telling us that the winds which blow in the mornings helps to keep the ice in the shadows till early afternoon. Coming back late in the afternoon, we ran into freezing fog and wet roads, but thankfully no black ice. I gotta tell you though, we kept our speed low going into that canyon again.

Wow! Then I have to say I disagree with V7Goose. At least until I am presented with facts. I've see tire failures myself on other brands of tires, but have never experienced any on my bikes. Now, I've read many posts of bikers saying they would never run Dunlops, Bridgestones, and many more because of failures. Is it the riders fault, or the manufactures negligence? Metzler has worked hard to build a reputation in the motorcycle world, and I really don't see them allowing that to be jeopardized. If this tire is really so dangerous, as you say, why has there never been a recall? Please understand that I'm not saying that the reported failures on this web site are not validated, because they did happen to the individuals, and if I did have a failure with a particular brand, I would be leery of putting them on my ride again.

Worked fine for me too. Just plan on a couple hours doing this mod. -
I got a Quest 2 from Ebay for the $140.00 price and love it. The Ram mount for it was $40.00, and that was from Ebay also. I power it with the outlet on the front fairing, so it places the speaker to far down to hear the directions, but the screen is very viewable in direct sunlight.

The V4 motor puts the Venture way ahead of any VTwin. I can't believe I'm saying this. Years ago I was completely branded by the American V twin, and was one of those that said if I can't ride American I would rather not ride. :-)

I also ran Metzler's, the rear at 50 psi, with no issues, before I went to the TA radial on the back. I still have a Metzler on the front, but its wearing now, and I'll probably go with a radial on the front this time.

Ouch. Man, I wish I knew how you guys get that kind of high milage at 80 mph. My milage drops at anything above 70 mph!
