Watch where you park the bike. That 1/2 inch makes a big differance when you put the kick stand down.

Did you ride up or down Oak Creek Road?

I would. I see no problem with it.

Ignition switch failure
wizard replied to jrcain32's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Huh? -
I have the Goodrich TA on the back and will go with the rear Metzler on the front when I need to replace my front tire. I never had any problems with the Metzler, and I always got better mileage with them than any other motorcycle tire I tried.
-
Exactly! Same for Robin and myself. No more 500 + miles for me. I enjoy the other benefits that come with marriage too much.

I've had ape hangers on my other bikes, but not the Venture. I actually found the riding position with the apes to be very comfortable on a long ride. If I had the money now, I would be looking into changing out the bars. Please keep us upto date on your quest.

Avon tires and the cold weather.
wizard replied to sarges46's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've got a BF Goodrich TA Radial tire on the rear of my Venture. Does that count? -
Sorry to hear that, might just as well put a motorcycle tire on the back. (like that will ever happen again)
-
That is a good looking directional tire. But, it should only be used on fast bikes! Such as the Midnights...
-
Wow! I'm glad thats been cleared up! So, now what? Just buy a tire you're happy with and let it be.

It's like any Harley rider says, "If I have to explain, you just would not understand"...Ain't that the truth...:-)

I'm in. Lets at least try to get him!

I run 35 lbs on my BFG. I guess that as the tire breaks in and the tread wears down a bit, the squirm gets less, because I really don't notice it anymore. I ride mostly 2 up on the Venture, and Robin tells me she feels the bike is more stable and comfortable for her with the car tire on the back.

Another 83 Venture Rat Chopper
wizard replied to motorbiketim's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I like it lots! Who would ever thought you could chop one of these bikes. I'll bet it was a lot of work rewireing all of the electrics so it wouldn't show. The lines are great, and that tank looks good. -
I'm not inseam challenged, but I lowered my bike both front and rear and have not noticed any negitive results. 1 inch in the front and a 1/2 inch in the back really does feel better when you're at a stop with the wife on the back. When 2 up I just up the pressure in the rear shock.

It must be your location. Before the merger I had a Roady radio that got fair reception. It was stolen off the bike and I was offered a $19.00 radio by the service rep. I bought it, and the reception is great, even in the mountains where I would lose reception on the Roady. I'm very happy with the merger, and would be lost without the tunes.

Don't you know? Once you experience the darkside, you can never go back. It will eat at you, months, years, decades, but, eventually, you will return to the darkside.

I never could stand a clean and neat garage. I like yours, it gets used. Have you seen any of the newer Harley shops? We have a dealership in a new building in Bakersfield, and it looks like they wipe down every tool as they use it and carefully put it back in the tool chest, then they pull it back out for the next bolt on the tranny case, after they make sure it was cleaned the last time they put it in, at $85.00 + per hour.

The best shops always had a gravel drive with wood barn doors in the back. I loved the smell of kerosene and old oil mixed with mold in the corners. They always had a pot of coffee perking on a desk covered with holed pistons, seized rods and cranks, and always ready to hand out tips on how to properly boil a chain.

I've got the TA Radial. I got a wobble after decelerating hard from 100 mph with 32 lbs in the tire. I started to increase the pressure 1 pound every week after that, and I found my happy spot at 35 psi. I could not tell the difference between 35 to 38 psi, so I stuck with the max pressure printed on the tire. I don't usually ride above 80 mph, but there are times when it is necessary.
