Canada to Cancun on the 250$ Venture - The full ride report
DarrinGT replied to jfman's topic in Watering Hole
What an unbelievable experience! Thanks for the updates, Love It! -
Sorry to hear about your crash Heather, Will be praying for a complete quick recovery. I was glad to read that the doctors decided to let you go home to get the wrist surgery done, My bro in law was in the same position, They did his wrist surgery after a crash in Traverse City MI, then shipped him back to Grand Rapids to find out it was totally botched and needed to be redone. It takes a plan of attack to put a wrist back together, Hope yours went well!

If you still need a carrier, I own a car lot in Grand Rapids, and buy a lot of cars in Florida and have had a number of them shipped. I use Scott from Bull Transport. He has a number of trucks on the road and has always done a great job for me. His number is 616-581-9195. Tell him Darrin Tosh from D&L Auto Sales sent ya. He is a great guy to work with.

Seems a little pricey, and defiantly different! http://Http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-Custom-Built-Motorcycles-Other-/162249996301?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25c6da780d:g:o6YAAOSwHsRYC34G&item=162249996301

Options for coil packs and plug wires/boots on 98 and 02 RS
DarrinGT replied to Lug Nut's topic in General Tech Talk
Not shure what you can do with Coils, other than OEM, and since the plug wires are sealed, they come with it. But that didn't stop me from changing the plug wires on my 97. Checkout post 92 and 93 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?83141-Tearing-into-the-bike-part-Deux -
Thanks Puc, Lori and I got to meet you at Freebirds MD a couple years ago, but no reason why we have to go that far to meet up, We only live 40 miles from each other! lol We were on the ole 97 RSTC that we sold earlier this year,.. Talk to ya soon!
-
Yes it is, We were there this weekend on the bike, It was cold but no rain, and some nice colors! I think peak will be this weekend. Few more pics,..
-
LOL, Looks like a Mirror Image!! That's the way to travel! Looks good Lenny!

Lori and I replaced our 97 with an 07 Royal Star Tour Deluxe earlier this year and have been having fun making it ours. A big part of that is being able to use our vendors here for the little improvements. so thanks to the following: Carbon One for the Crash Bar Supports, and the Air Horn Kit with relay, swapped from the 97,.. DJH3 for the Ignition Switch Bypass Kit Rick Butler for being willing to take the give his touches to the Mustang Seat and making it a comfortable ride! Ride On!!

Thanks Guys,.. Both bikes have brand new Dunlop E3s set at the same pressure. Both bikes also have right at 19K miles. We have only ridden the Venture one time on a 150 mile trip but hope to ride it again this week if the weather cooperates. I bought it to flip, and we are actually deciding what one we want to keep, but are leaning towards the Royal,..
-
Yea I understand but this is how we rode this weekend, 950 miles 2 up fully loaded, During this trip I changed the shock many times from 0 on up to 35 and saw no difference in the harshness of the ride.
-
Is there a difference between a Royal Star shock, and a Venture Shock? 07, and 06, respectively. My 06 Venture is a smoother ride, a lot less harsh or jarring than my 07 Royal, no matter the air pressure. Thoughts,..?

Dumped my bike and need the paint code and some parts
DarrinGT replied to Gary N.'s topic in Watering Hole
Looks like I am not going to be much help Gary, I went to my buddy's body shop to see if he had the can of paint, well it turns out that the paint he was getting from finish master was not going to be close enough match, so he blended his own paint. So sorry, I am not able to get you a code. I asked him if he was interested in doing it again, He said only if he was spraying it. Good luck on your quest! -

DarrinGT replied to Gary N.'s topic in Watering Hole
Sorry Gary, Didn't have a chance to dig up the can for the code today, Will get it tomorrow, Found out that my Body Man still has it. -
Thank you, I have had it for 14 years, go it out of California and never sees a MI Winter, It has 300K miles on it but the drive line has maybe 40K, and a new BUILT C6 Trans. The truck is pretty bullet proof, lots of time and effort has gone into it. Built, not Bought!

We pulled into the front of a restaurant to park, My wife Lori and I and all the gear, there was a hump in the pavement I didn't see, the left side of the front tire rode up on it and the bike was going over on the right. I knew it was going over, and like Stat said, Once its going, its going, well I gave her one last attempt to lift and it popped right up, almost with no effort.. I looked down and saw Lori's foot on the ground behind me, SHE pushed it back up and saved us! saved us from tipping over in front of a restaurant full of people watching out the windows and our rider peeps behind us starting to park. I bought her lunch that day, it was the least I could do,...

DarrinGT replied to Wheeliehappy's topic in Watering Hole
Hey Karl, Welcome to the forum! Thanks to Cowpuc for throwing out my name! My first Royal was a 97 Royal Star Tour Classic, I did a LOT to it over the 70K miles it has on it when I sold it. If you want to check it out, here are the 2 threads with lots of pics and info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?56020-Time-to-start-Tearing-into-the-Bike&highlight=makeover http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?83141-Tearing-into-the-bike-part-Deux&highlight=makeover After all that, My advice, Don't mess with the performance upgrades. Keep the bike stock and ride it, Excpt for the Exhaust of your choice, That is a Must. I just love to tinker and see what I can get out of them with lots of down time in the winter so these projects worked well for me, but if I were to do it all over again, I would not mess with the 32MM Carb Swap, Dyna Ignition and Intake. If you have to have some more performance the V-Max Gear Swap is the best bang for the buck. I am thinking you are looking at the 97 ish RSTD. By the time you do all the performance upgrades you can get into an 05 to 09 Royal Star Tour Delux for the same price, have better performance, fuel mileage, air suspension and a half gallon bigger tank. But you can also get into an 02 ish Venture and have ALL the stuff and another Half Gallon of fuel to ride on. Miles dont matter much on these as long as they have been well maintained. With my 97 I would barley hit 40 mpg, and most of the time it was closer to 35, and only 5 gallons, not a real long cruising range. On my 07 Royal I get 45, (got 48 yesterday) and 5.4 gallon tank. Plus a real fuel gauge. Now lets talk about Star Fan, He did ALL the upgrades to his (98 RSTD) including V MAx Cams, had it done professionally, tuned and tweaked, I rode his bike, Pretty sure my arms got stretched about half of an inch, that thing was just FAST!! It pulled hard at the top end where mine dropped off. Yes it can be done, and it a lot of fun when completed, what a beauty of a bike. Just depends on what you want to mess with and what you are capable of. I bought my 07 a few months ago, RSTD, 11K miles on it, all stock Shipped to my door with 2 mason jars of West Virginia cinnamon apple pie Moonshine in the saddle Bags for $4,300.00. Sold my 70K mile 97 for $3,500.00 Not a bad deal at all. Deals can be had and it may be worth it for you to pick up an early (00 and up) Venture or a 05 tp 09 Royal Star. Sorry if this rambled on a bit but good luck and keep us posted. -
96 change to 4 into 2
DarrinGT replied to Rotten's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I am thinking that you may have posted this question on my You Tube video? didnt have a chance to respond to that if ya did. Anyway it all has to be custom made. Here is the thread on when I switched my exhaust (among other things) and lowered bags at the same time. Long thread but lots of pictures and info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?83141-Tearing-into-the-bike-part-Deux&highlight=makeover+monster Hope it helps,.. Darrin
