Put gas in the tank and fuel comes pouring out the butterfly end. Any suggestions as to what needs to be fixed?
-
Last year was my 1st ride in 27 years and it has taken a full year for my wife to get on board so its 28 years for her. Our previous bike was an 80 Goldwing. She said that on the Wing she recalls sitting a bit higher and could somewhat look over my helmet to see up ahead. On the 89 VR she has no forward vision at all. Right smack in the back of my helmet. She does not like the driver back rest on the VR, that I really like. She feels the Wing shifted and the engine is smoother. She probably wouldn't be interested in a long days ride. I can remove the driver back rest. Can't do anything about the shifting and smoothness. Her biggest gripe is that she can't see forward causing her some slight motion dizzyness always seeing things from the side and then her necks gets tired looking sideways Left and right also. Any serious suggestions as to raising the rear seat height?

AIr Pressure recommendations for 330 lbs
GolfVenture replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
I uped the front from 15 to 20 and the rear from 40 to 50. It seemed to work ok. I think I'll up the rear some more. I hope to install the progressive springs this winter. Thanks to all. -
I ride with the air pressure on automatic normal settings. I think that is about 15 lbs front 40 lbs rear. Soon my wife will ride for the first time in 28 years and. Just out for a leasure ride. With all my normal carring stuff and me and my wife, I'm guessing about 330 lbs total. Interested in others air pressure recommendations experience for a 1st Gen MKII..

Would like to know how and where you mounted your GPS on a 1st Gen MKII. Pictures would be appreciated.

Several months ago I added the Stebel electric 130db horns. I wired them thru a relay. I can hear and feel the relay clicking. So 1st looking for the horn fuse. Any thoughts welcome.

Is the Bead Seat cuttable. If so is there a special way so not to unravel it.
-
Looking for how others tied their bead seats on. Looking for a sturdy, ok lookiing and a quick way to get them off and on.

I've been thinking about replacing my speakers on my 89 VR, for one of the cones has fallen off and is just bouncing around in there. I'm going to conclude that these speakers are a good match for my stock radio. So I'm going to order a set unless someone can direct me to a better set for under $50.00

So far only 4 has confirmed their order. Would appreciate if the rest would confirm their order. The manufacture is waiting for my Go Ahead to start making the RSTD patches. There's nothing in the Patches for me so if I give the go ahead and some cancel then I'm stuck with the patches and I don't even own an RSTD. Thanks Brian T.

I have a 4 ft by 8 ft trailer with 3 ft sides with the back open but braced. I want to install some tie hooks so I can transport my 89 VR if I had to someday. My question is where are the best places to install these hooks?

So I wasn't able to understand the above instructions fully but here is what I found out. First A quick summary - I have 2 sets of Stebel electric horns. a Front Set and a Rear set. Left origional horn wires to Rear horns and right origional horn wires to Front horns and both front and rear horns has their own seperate relay. The horns has been working for several months and now the rear horns stop working. This mornings test results with a trouble light 1) With key off, connect to + battery and to 87 the rear horns blow good. 2) With key off, connect to - battery to 86, no light. With key on, connect to - battery to 86, yes light 3) with key off, connect to + battery to 85, the front horn blows. I'm thinking this is ok for the 2 origional sets of horn wires work together. And so power is being fed directly from battery to both horns. 5) 30 being power, with key off no light. 30 being power, with key on it lights when I hit the horn button. Remember that the Front horns work like it should. Any Suggestions?

4) 86 Horn Button use a test light to the (negative battery) I will try this in the morning. 86 and 87 should light up when you hit the button. Do I connect to the negative battery? If 86 does not light up, then there is a problem with the wire between the relay and the horn button, maybe the factory fuse... The front set of horns work so it wouldn't be the fuse, so the wire between the relay and the horn button. If there is power at 30 and 86 lights up when the horn button is pressed and 87 does not light up when you hit the button, then the relay is bad. I put a new relay on with same result, horn still did not work. If 87 does light up, put the tester on the wire at the horn and see if it lights up, if not, then the wire from the relay to the horn is bad. Do I ground the other end of the tester to ground?
-
Daaa you so right. With a test light 1) 30 Battery use a test light to the Negative battery 2) 85 Ground use a test light to the Positive battery 3) 87 Horn use a test light to the (negative battery) is that correct? 4) 86 Horn Button use a test light to the (positive battery) is that correct?
-
So I could use wire from 30 and wire from 85 and hook them to the horn. If Horn does not work then I can run seperate wires to the battery and figure which wire is bad 30 or 85. If it does honk then the problem is 87 or 86. I could run a new wire for 87 which would determine which is bad 87 or 86.

I installed 2 sets of Stebel ELectric horns. I used the exiting 2 sets of wires, Left wires for the front set and right for the rear set. Each set has its own relay. The horns have been working for several months. This last weekend during an hour ride it seems that the horns were not as loud. When I got home I press the horn button 4 times as I touched each of 4 the horns. The rear horns does not work. I took both of the rear horns off and wired them directly to the battery and they work. I put a new relay on and still does not work. I would like to start troubleshooting with the 4 wires at the relay, only I've forgotten what wire goes where. Could someone fill in the blanks for me 30 comes from where ____________ 85 comes from where ____________ 86 comes from where ____________ 87 comes from where ____________ Thank you. Brian

It must make you sit up higher of the ground and therefore one needs to have long enough legs so one is not tip toeing especially on a 1st gen? Is that a consideration?

I'll check the next time it occurs.

I've been riding my VR about once a week and so when after I choke it and the hit the starter it starts on the very first crank with no noise. It does not crank a few times then start it starts on the 1st crank and I do not hear any noise. I was thinking that the starter button may have gotten stuck. Is that possible?
-
Rode my 89 VR for an hour this morning then let it sit for an hour. Started it up again to to ride and it started right up but made a sawing or hising sound. I hit the stop button to kill the engine and it stopped. Started it up again and made the same noise. I listened for a couple seconds and decided that it is the starter that is not disengaging. Shut if off and started it up and this time the noise went away. My VR has 25,500 miles on it and only 1500 miles is mine. The 1st 24,000 was from South Lake Tahoe and in the winter months it was a garaged. And at my home it is also garaged. Any suggestions of what to check or to clean?
