  1. This was our 1st Patriot Guard Ride, this past Saturday. It was to honor a young 21 year old local hero who died in an Army training mission. He had completed 1 tour in Afghanistan. They requested the Patriot Guards to do just a flag line at the church. We were called to attention when the mother and the grandparents made a special point to come out and shake each of our hands thanking us for our participation. I rarely tear up so this was a rare occasion for me. It was such an honor to meet the family and a heart felt experience. I’ve included a few pictures of the group. The last picture is on the old Buckley Hwy, with Mt Rainier in the back ground, and my wife Rachel and Cherry Pie, my 91 Venture. Actually our 1st Patriot Guard mission was a hospitality mission back in the summer of 2011, where we drove our truck and trailer to help moved a recent widow of another one of our young fallen veteran hero.
  2. I'll give it a test ride this weekend. And what timing the son is coming out again. That 2 weekends in a row.
  3. Resoldering corrected mine. I could not see the cracks untill I used a magnifing eye piece.

  5. You bet I'd do it also, only I've learned to barter and I get a lot more freebies.
  6. Your not going to believe this. The OEM collar washer would not fit into the spring. I have a 91 VR. So I tried to file it and I could see that this is going to take forever. So I started my grinder up and grounded the outside of the the collar so it would fit inside the spring. Sure hopes this stops the noise.
  7. I can not give any specific to your question of the Blue/Green timeshare. I believe that most timeshares have many similarities. There is the initial investment. There is a yearly maintenance fee.(change from year to year most up) Most likely you will not want to go to the same resort year after year. Yes some timeshare can be exchanged. The Exchange programs are RCI or Interval International Each of these has a yearly membership fee ($50 to $100 yearly depending on the number of years ). In addition each exchange cost from $130 to $180(can go up also ) The only timeshares that are exchangeable are the ones that others puts them up for exchange. One needs to be very open as to where one wants to go and when one wants to go. If you are looking for a specific place on a very specific range of dates. Then good luck finding it. I normally plan my vacations out nearly 1 year in advance and not normally to any specific place or dates. I see what is available through the world (mostly in the USA/Canada) then book. The Exchange procedure takes awhile to get used to. Once you get used to it then you will spend hours looking at resorts. My resort is in Cabo Mexico (1 bedroom), It is like a Palace. Most USA/Canada resort don’t measure up to it. Mostly glorified condos. There are some that are nice. If you consider yourself to be wealthy and like to travel the world and can do so any time, then I think a timeshare could be ok. Otherwise for the average middle class or lower, I think you’d be better off just booking hotels. Where you want and when you want. Some good things that my timeshare has done for me and my wife is to put vacation as a very high priority. Prior to my timeshare ownership, vacation were very low on my priority and I would try to go on inexpensive vacations. I also always look for 2/3/4 bedrooms to exchange into, and the number of bedrooms does not cost anymore to exchange. I like to trade into the Marriott Timeshare and Interval International has an exclusive on Marriott timeshares. Marriott Timeshares are available to other Marriott’s owner 1st then opens to those in Interval International. I take advantage of every time share program’s free gifting. I’m not proud; I figure I’ve paid for it. Free this Free that, If it is free I’ll be there. Eat the cookies take the gift and split. The secret is not to ask a single question. Just pretend they are selling Drugs. “Just say No”. Don’t even ask for the time of day. If they do not make a sale on you, then they will bring the next sales person and see if you will buy instead 1 week in a year maybe 1 week every other year or 1 week every 3 years. They will press and press. Now there are some presentations that are very professional like theMarriott’s. They show you the program, ask if you are interested, then give you the gift then let you go. Sometime they will even let you think over night but not very often. Well that’s about all I have. What I know now I would not do timesharing again. But what I would do is put vacationing as a high priority. Reward yourself and family, start putting together a yearly vacation budget and enjoy. If you have any more questions, you can PM me.
  8. I have own a timeshare for about 14 years, and my personal testimony is to not get involved in one. I will follow up with another post as to why not to get involved for it will be lengthy, and I would like my warning to get posted immediately.
  9. Does anyone have one of those shouldered spacers that is required for the installation of the chrome rotor covers for a MKII?
  10. 1st Gen owner ?. I installed the largest Clearview shield and the buffering is worst for both the driver and passenger. I have to open the shield vent all the way to make it tallerable. Anyone else with the largest shield experience the same?
  11. Got it on. Sure hope there aren't much maintenance that requires the rad cover to come off. It a pia. But sure looks like a million dollars.
  12. mlew, thanks I'll use the OEM washer and place the collar inside the spring. This will make it my 4th time in taking the 4 way flasher apart. I think I'll try to get if off in 30 seconds or less this time.
  13. Ya, I dropped mine in the garage when I first got it. I'm kind of a light weight, and so as I tried to move it forward with the side kick stand still down thinking that it would prevent it from going down just in case for, I wasn't used to man handling an 800lb beast after not riding 27 years. Well the side kick stand must have just brushed the cement floor and slightly brought the stand back the threshold point. When I let the VR go to the side stand, woooo, it’s going down. I was just also about 5 months from recovering from open heart surgery and I wasn’t about to try to stop it. I just let it go. I’ve heard about the butt and leg method of uping a down bike but I wasn’t going to try that either. So I got my come-a-long and hooked it to the pick up frame, put the VR in rear and brought it up that way. I should have taken a picture of it like you. Your posting reminded me to try the butt and leg method on carpet just incase. Thanks for posting. .
  14. After reading several posting on shields, I ordered the largest, tinted with vent for my 91 VR. Largest for added protection and to help with the passenger wind buffering. The result is that both I and myself felt more wind buffering than the standard OEM shield. Whats up with that? So a fellow rider suggested I open the vent up. That seemed to help with the wind buffering, but we do not think it is any better than the OEM buffering. Now I will really want to avoid riding in rain. Eithor let the rain thru the vent for a less buffering ride or stay dryer and let the wind buffering beat me up. On top of that I've heard that my mpg could be lightly reduced. If I had to do it over again I think I would just install the vent on the OEM shield. I may just do that anyway so I have a spare in the event a rock cracks the Clearview.
  15. I recently installed progressive springs and all seems to be fine with myself as a single rider. A bit stiff but expected. Yesterday my wife and I went for a ride and the ride definitely was smoother. I did hear what I thought was spring noise when taking off from a dead stop after a decent descending stop. I think the coils probably compressed about ½ inch to maybe an inch. My wife and & together riding gear and with some stuff maybe pushing around 350 lbs if that makes any difference. When I say spring noise it sounded like something was grinding lightly or rubbing against the springs as it was expanding. But I can’t imagine a ½ to 1 inch movement could make that much noise. The sound lasted about 1 full second. I did not hear anything during the breaking as the springs were compressing. I’ve heard that one is supposed to install the tight coils first which for that helps with spring noise, which I did. What does spring noise sound like. The OEM springs made no noise. Is what I’m hearing normal? Is there a breakin period?
  16. Ya, that was what I was guessing, but I've decided to ask for there has been times when I did not ask and there was a better way. So it looks like that I need a spacer the width of the origional radiator tab, then the side cover goes on, then the Chrome Rad grill (with spacers if needed but I'm thinking not). And I also will need to get 4 screws a bit longer than the origionals.
  17. Trying to install the Chrome Rad Grill on my 91 VR. How does the Chrome Side Rad cover with the reflector go on? Normally the OEM rad grill goes on 1st then the side rad with reflector cover next.
  18. I concur
  19. Everything shared is good, but still like to know pecentage wise when I ride or drive what is the likelyness of getting in an accident. I'm guessing there is no stat on that. Statistians seems to keep track that one is more likely to get in a car accident than flying. Well I'm not really sure if that is correct but that is what I seem to recall.
  20. Anyone have any stats as to which has a greater chance being in an accident? A car or a motorcycle? Been searching and nothing comes up.
  21. I kind of always wondered where one hits the laser with and why. Exhaust pipe, got it.
  22. My 89 VR, last year, ran fine. I normally run an ounce of SeaFoam in each gas tank, and at the end of the year on a full tank I put in about 4 or 5 ounces of Seafoam, then ran it about 30 minute ride, then top of the tank. Now it is ready for the winter lay up Sometime in Jan of 2012 during a nice day I took it out for a mid winter warm up. Just to make sure everything was running ok. It ran perfect until the last 5 minutes. All of a sudden I could tell that I was not getting the normal throttle response. At a stop light I noticed that it was idling at less than 500 rpms and I could hear what might sound like not firing on all 4s. Got it home and let it sit. See I was too busy putting accessories on my 91 VR. But all the time been thinking about how to attack the 89 VR issue. So I finally got to it this morning. As I turned the key on the fuel pump did it click click thing like a machine gun. Hit the choke and with in about the 2nd hit of the starter it started right up. During warm up I could tell that the symptom was still there. When I took the choke off, yep it is idling below 500 rpm, and not sounding good. From cold start up I hit each cylinder with the laser temp run and all 4 cylinders seem to be warming up fairly evenly, temp wise. I will start it up tomorrow morning when cold and be more attentive with the temp on the left banks. The left banks temp may have been a bit behind the right banks. I just wasn’t paying too closely So this morning I did the following: I sniped off 1/8 to 1/4 inch of the spark plug wire. Started it up - Same symptoms. Facing in the forward riding position While running I pulled the right back cylinder plug - the engine died. While running I pulled the right front cylinder plug - the engine died. While running I pulled the left back cylinder plug - engine kept running. tiny bit less rpm. While running I pulled the left front cylinder plug - engine kept running. tiny bit less rpm. So it is my 2 left cylinder bank. I pulled the plug cap of each left cylinders and put a spare plug in it to test for spark. Both have good spark. I then unscrewed each plug and then tested the two original spark plug for spark. Both have good spark. Infact the plugs almost look band new. Well they should be for very little miles were put on them last year. Also when I pulled the original plugs they were not wet with fuel. They were very dry, meaning they aren't getting any fuel or what fuel it was getting was being burnt off. It was running initially with the choke but later I took the choke off. So with good spark and the cylinder temp seemed to be going up some what normal would indicate that the 2 left cylinders were getting proper spark and fuel. I'm suspicious it still is a fuel issue. I’m going start it up tomorrow morning, cold, and record the cylinder temps. Meanwhile any suggestion for me to think and plan would be appreciated. I’d like to start with the less expensive and simpler solutions. Thanks
  23. I was with the understanding that the 10 wt or 15 wt does not affect the compression of the forks but rather the uncompresssion of the forks. And also that only under professional racing conditions can one really experience the difference between 10 wt and 15 wt. How does your forks act under some ruff road conditions. Are the forks cushy or bumpy?
  24. Ya I also just installed my progressive a few days ago. I love how my 91 VR handles in the corners. I think I've gained 10 mph in the corners. I also like how it stands up rides.taller with no more diving when breaking. The one thing I did not like was how the springs took bumps. I was under the impression that the progressive would be firm under the force in the corners, which it is, but at the same time would provide some cush when encountering a bump. There was this new section of road where there was a sign “Bump” so I took it much faster then normal and the tire bounced off the bump and hoped on the payment. I did not like that. I’ve not heard anyone else complain about it. I thinking that I’m probably one of the lighter riders in the group at 170 to 175 lbs, and that could make a little difference. I used 15 wt oil. No spacer. Went from 5.5 inches to 9 inches of air space. The extra 4.5 inches of air space made just enough difference so my forks gave a bit when I hit the same bump, and no skipping on the payment, with same cornering and braking characteristic as with the 5.5 inches. I’m good with my settings, looking forward to this summer
  25. I have not seen any pictures of 1st Gens with right side compartment chrome handles.
