  1. Ok... Just got back from Walmart and it was 10.50 for premix and 12.50 for standard so I got 2 gallons of standard. Also a rebate of 15.00 for 2 gallons.

Ok... If it looks dirty I'll do the Prestone Flush.

OK... Drain it stick a hose in radiator cap and let some water flow through for a couple of minutes & be done with it.

OK... So on the actual refill with new anti freeze.....You will need to fill it as full as it will go, leave radiator cap off, then start motor and allow it to come up to full temp in order to get radiator topped off.

After putting the rad cap back on. Then I need to put some in the over flow container in the right faring. I do not recall seeing a mark to fill to.

  2. So I'm about to change the Rad Fluid On My 91 VR.

    1) I'm guessing that the Rad Plug just above the oil filter is where I drain the rad fluid. Is that the lowest point for the rad fluid or might there another place also?

    2) I'm plan to put the plug back in and fill with water and drain again a couple 2 or 3 times?

    3) With it full of just water I plan on running the engine so to circulate the water through out the entire cooling system to get every last drop of old anti freeze out.

    4) After I flush the Rad for the last time, I'm going to install Sky_Docs Rad Drain up grade Kit.

    5) I've read that any anti freeze today will be just fine. But to stay away from silcone based anti freeze. I plan on getting regular Prestone premix 50/50.

    6) How much Watercooler additive do I put in. I'm planning on a summer visit to Las Vegas and the surrounding areas this Late June / early July.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Thanks for all the replys. MikeWa lives only about 30 minutes from me and bring that we both have similar environments and weather, I'm going to try the 40/60 bleach/water, then broom it in.

Being that I work 2nd shift I will do this in the morning just after sunrise. The air and cement will be cool so evorporation will not be an issue.

I'll get my 2 gallon backpack sprayer ready for this yearly chore.

    Thanks everyone.

  4. Any recommendations on how to get a Trex Deck really clean. Currently I just use my pressure washer. It gets it clean ok, but there are still some dirt left behind. My Pressure Washer is rated at 3100 psi.

  5. My slab infront of the garage gets pretty black every year. And every year I get the pressure washer out.

Is there some biogradeable chemical that one can sprinkle on concrete slab to soak in so that a gentle spray can get it clean. Right now I end up having to get the spray very close to the concrete to get it clean. It uses a lot of water.

  6. I purchased a 91 VR last fall and one day riding, I for some reason let go of the handle bar to do something.

At around 40 mph I noticed a sight handle bar shake left & right. As my speed dropped to 35 the shake got much more excessive then by the time it go to 30 it was very violent to the point I almost lost control.

Today on a short ride I thought I try the handle bar test thinking I might need to tighten the steering. Now I just installed progressive about 3 weeks ago. I let the handle bar go at about 45 mph and coasted down to about 10 mph with no shake. I was controlling the VR with just 1 finger on each grip and oh so very lightly just to keep the VR going straight.

  7. I would be interested in a 2nd Generation Venture accessory mounting bar. I have passed several PM's with with "Golf&Venture" concerning my thoughts on the bar. This is a photo of my 2009 Venture and the inset has a rough (very rough (smile)) depiction of the bar as I see it.

My reason for wanting this accessory mounting bar is because my cup holder blocks my view of the low fuel warning light unless I lean forward to see over the top of the holder. If there is anything in the holder, I have to lean left/right etc. My idea is that the bar would mount with a device similar to my cup holder mount, one on each side and the bar across the center. It must allow fuel cap access of course.

Anyone else show interest in this idea?

Alfred: What size is your handle bar diameter?

They all placed orders for Venture Patchs but have not replyed to my PM for confirmation.

Currently their orders are not being made and will be left out after the entire group's is completed.

  9. We spent a bit of time desert riding and went thru Vegas when it was 117F on the pavement. We use a mesh jacket with a wet vest underneath it. It's like riding in front of an air conditioner when you are going down the road.We also keep an extra wet vest in water in the trunk and swap them out about every hour.

Also make darn sure you keep hydrated. Every stop to swap the vest should include drinking at least a liter of water. If you aren't urinating every stop then you are not drinking enough water.

We also freeze up a gallon of water to throw in the side back in the event we should get stranded out in the middle of no where. Ran across someone out in the middle of nowhere one time and they were really happy to see us break out that gallon of water for them. They had been there over an 1 1/2 waiting for a tow. That could have been us with as simple a thing as a flat.

hmmm... maybe a couple of small umbrellas would be in order incase of a break down to create shade.

  10. Does anyone know if the 2nd Gen Venture's Handle Bar has changed since the introduction of the 2nd Gen Ventures.

I have been asked by a couple of 2nd Gen owners if I could adapt the 1st Gen Accessory Mount Turn Buckle Bar for the 2nd Gen Ventures, and possibly for some of the other bikes in this group.

I got to looking at the 2nd Gen Handle Bars and it seems like a very simple modification. If there has been no changes then a turn buckle probably would not even be needed.

It would be helpful to know if the 2nd Gen Venture Handle Bar has changed or stayed the same.

I've including a few pictures of what was made for the 1st Gen. Obviously the ends will need to be modified to accomodiate the 2nd Gen's Bars, but looking at it, looks very much do able.

If you are a 2nd Gen owner and would be interested (non committal) in getting in on a group buy after the mods are complete, please indicate so on this thread. This will help me determine if making a prototype is worth the effort.

Also if you are an owner of another bike an would also be interested one for your bike, please indicate the bike model and year.

Your response would be greatly appreciated.

  11. How many hours did it take you?

    What was your average speed?

If you were planning on an 800 to 1000 miles without a layover any suggestions?

I'm considering about 950 mile trip in one day.

In Sept of 2010 I rode 2 days from Vacaville CA to Buckely WA.

1st Day was from Vacaville WA to Corvallis Or a total of about 525 miles.

2nd Day from Corvallis Or to Buckley WA Via I-5 to Portland OR then to The Dalles OR to Yakima WA for a total of 385 miles.

Now prior to this I had not ridden for 27 years.

All I did was take the m/c rider safety course.

Flew down to Vacaville and rode about 1 hour.

Then took off the next morning for Oregon.

Oh I also had a 4 way bypass open heart operation about 4 months ago.

Since this trip I've put on about 2500 miles.

I'm thinking that I could do this 950 mile trip in one day or 18 hours.

Oh I today just go my seat back from Butler Seat modification.

  12. I recently learned about the donation process when you dump your bike.

    1) It was back in around Oct of 2010. I was in the garage and wanted to turn the Venture around. I was recovering quite well from open heart surgury on 4 May 2010. But I was in no condition to picking up an 800 lbs of Venture.

The Story: While turning the Venture around in the garge, I knew had to be careful. So I put the kickstand down so it would catch the fall in case I dropped the VR.

So with the side stand down I was also off the Venture's left , I pushed the Venture foward, In so doing the side stand druged on something and kicked the stand back.

    beyond the threshhold point.

After I got the bike where I wanted it I let it onto what I tought was the side kick stand down. Oops no side kick stand, the bike started go down and I just let it go.

I first put it in gear and took a come-along and hooked it to the frame of the pick up trunk and got the Venture up.

    2) I pulled off the side of the road where it was paved. It was up hill on a sharp corner and the sidepaved road went up to greet me. I also stoped for I needed to turn around

the VR aroiund for I went too far.

So I stop where I could let gravity push me back and to the right. Well because the right side of where I stoped was quickly going dow, I had to get the bike stopped and leaned to the left.

Everything happend so fast. The bike leaned over to the right side and over she went. It so happend that a you guy stopped and asked if I needed help get the VR back upright. I humbled accepted his offer.
