  1. Collar , ribs , lung all doing great, just has some really tight muscles. Going to see the Dr this Thurs about possibly more hand surgury.

Satisfied with the 89 VR. Just need to get it running good. Carb is still acting up when I started it up a few days ago. Would like to swap carbs with the 91, better yet like to switch both the engine and carb.

  2. Brian,

I just mounted the switch plate on my '90. There was interference between the HORN button and the switch plate. When one depresses the HORN button it remains depressed. I thought a little tweak would fix the interference, but the mounting tab broke off!

When the switch plate was mounted it seemed to sag a little downward on the left, causing the stuck HORN button (at the upper left corner of the HORN button).

It is a nice piece of machining, but unfortunately the tolerances are apparently a little too tight.

    I have an extra one.

How about if I take a bit more off the top of the horn button and on the left of the horn button.

Can you give me the two measurement to take off.

Any other adjustments you can think off.

  3. I've received one comment that the switch mount has 2 issues.

    1) The screw hold does not match up. I have an 89 and 91 VR, and the screws holes line up perfectly. His is an 86 VR. Are there any differences in the MKII Left switch housing? I was not aware of any.

    2) The top switch hole is too close to the rubber hand grip. The buttons I used are from Radio Shack (see picture). The + & - terminals are flat so one can bend the terminals down. I wanted everything to fit tight and not extend out too far so not to snag or get caught on things. The switch plate survived the accident that I recently had. The VR fliped, rolled and slid for a long ways.

I used pretty thin wires from the switch to the relay. I shrinked wrap each wire individially and then shrinked wraped the two into one.

  4. Im looking to add a trunk to my tour deluxe, I have the trunk, but need everything to attach it to the bike. Also the passenger hand grips.

    Thanks

I do not know much about the Tour Delux but I think it is very different to the Venture Royale.

  5. Do you do any plastic welding? If so save the ABS plastic for either tab buildup of fills.

I've never done plastic welding. My limit of fixing plastic is to use PlasticX.

I'll have to think about saving all that plastic. I'm going through my garages to organize and throw some stuff I've been keeping for a long time.

  6. So Brian,

Have you given any thought to what to get to replace the 91?

Actually I have an 89 VR with 26K miles in really nice conditionbut not as nice as the 91 VR was. The 91 VR was about a 9.5, the 89 VR is about 8.5 to 9.0 You can see it in my profile. I would have sold it this spring only the left 2 cylinders were not getting fuel so I kept it to fix later.

Glad I kept it around. Miles (Million Mile Rider) came up and help me fix the carburator and put some other pieces together. It runs good now. But I won't be able to ride it till next year, for I have some more hand sugury and then therapy.

I'm keeping most parts of the 91 VR for spare parts.

I'm moving as must salvageable acessories to the 89 VR. It is already starting to look really nice.

  7. What is the condition of the chrome side bag and engine guard items? All road rashed, bent, and/or broken?

    -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA

The only usable piece is the left rear side bag guard. There is road rash on the part that extends out to the side. About 6 inches long and pretty bad. Then more road rash only not as bad.
