The rest of the Pictures are on my phone, not downloaded yet. These are from the parking area. I estimate 3,000 bikes but the number was more than likely larger rather than smaller. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0001g-1.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0002f.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0003f.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0005f.jpg and of course My Bike stands out in a sea of harley's!! The Honda beside me was one of the bikes in our group, we had a riding group of 12, 1 spider, 1 goldwing trike both female riders, My yamaha, 1 Honda shadow, the rest were harley's http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c177/Touched1/PICT0006e.jpg

Dang Broke again
Cruser replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This is also my repair standard, I have used it with great success on my goldwing and on the VR trunk. The stop holes at the ends of the crack are very important. you can also lay in plumbers tape, the metal one with the holes if added tinsle strength is needed. On the gold wing I used a chrome strip on the outside and plumers tape in the inside and small bolts and screws and then fiber glassed the break, it was tough as nails. -
Cheap, replacement air cleaners - are there?
Cruser replied to Semi-retired's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
The first gen can run with a little less air but your fuel mileage will suffer, but too much air they don't run worth a darn. Its also damaging to some of the components beyond the carbs. a person needs to duplicate the filters for microns and surface area if you intend to stand a chance at retro fitting another filter on the bike. -
I just finished wondering the same thing I let it sit at idle until it almost was boiling over it didn't come on, I had to clean the connections and let the bike sit at idle for a long time again but the fan finally came on, It really seems to be at the upper reaches of the guage and the engine is pretty hot when it kicks in. I installed a manual switch but left all the original equipment functional also.

#3 cylinder oiling
Cruser replied to twowheelhorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It sounds more like valve guide seals to me if the oil builds up when it starts pumping to the top of the engine. -
Now that right there is funny, I don't care who you are!

Track hoe's are the very worst sort of machine for mud! a couple of good backhoe operators probably could have walked themselves out of the muck before they drowned. Those machines may well be there till it freezes.

I did that 4 years ago, Its not as fun as they make it out to be. I wish Rose and you the best I know its tough. And If I can help with some natural replacements for the designer drugs they will be trying to put her on let me know. The side affects of those things are worse than the necessity.

Cruser replied to Cruser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No play in the swing arm, and yes I asked what you think because I want to know. Like I said I was told about this guy up the hill from another Rider, The guy is supposedly a Bike Mechanic, He acted like He knew what he was doing, but we all know that doesn't mean he knows anything, so I check with the only other help I have , That is you guys. -

1. down the cooling fan is turning on now, I took all of the connections apart cleaned them and the fan now works, even though I think it turns on late ,I will be putting a manual switch in line and will be able to turn it on if I want it on sooner. I took the bike up the hill to a guy who says He knows about these bikes, He seemed competent? He told me that the bearings in the rear seemed ok for now and that if Im going to tear the bike down soon to just do them then? what do you guys think ? like I said there is a very small amount of movement "very very small" according to this other guy? Im going to take most of the winter and fix plastic, paint and do some gaskets and seals that I know are seeping, spark plug wires, and various other projects, the bike should be down by the end of Sept, right after the aspencade Rally in Ruidoso and hopefully done by march when our spring starts here. -
8/9/10 Update on my Beast
Cruser replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To take that glue off try acetone or paint thinner. I had really good luck with paint thinner on my cage when I was taking that pinstripe gum off. on glass or something even the plastic if your repainting acetone will probably take it off. I may be into the same thing over the winter, looking forward to see what works on the glue and seeing your completed project. -

Hi Jean, The bike has never boiled over, but it gets danged hot and I have never heard the fan run while riding in town or anywhere else, the temp gauge went right up to the line on the red the other day going slow behind traffic in town after a fairly long run up a hill almost "15 miles of up" (steep) I never heard the fan turn on, I have let it idle here in the yard a couple of times, never to the same point as it was that day though, I will do it again this weekend and be a little more patient and see if the fan turns on before it boils over. Ok pic is there now, I will check to see if the spacer is in there, but the wiggle is really more like a bearing has free play , what I'm feeling in this could be normal but I can shake it hard and hear it clunk a little. What started this whole thing was a strange sound I heard on the way home from work yesterday, Its hard to describe but it sounded like a stick running against the tire but only when I would hit a little bit of rough in the road and the bike would bounce on the shocks,I couldn't make it happen below 50 but at 65 and above it was disconcerting, it was weird a sound I had never heard before , now I have to find out what it was even if I go through some unnecessary steps ,I have no one here that can help me who knows about these bike and I'm a Venture virgin, but not for long I have a feeling. -

Thanks for the reply, so if I can take hold of the rear tire on top and make it wiggle where the rear punkin is then something is loose? would that be too little torque on the axle nuts that would allow that movement? I was able to jump the fan and it runs so I will be moving on to the other components, your picture will help alot. -
Final drive? How much should there be if any? I just finished changing the oil in the final drive ,while the bike is on the center stand I decided to shake some stuff around, there is a small but noticeable amount of side play in the final drive halves, I need to know if its normal, abby-normal or ? Question #2 I don't think that the cooling fan is working, If I hook it direct to a battery and the fan runs then I guess I can figure that the fan is good but a sending unit or something else is bad, Is this sending unit up under the top of the fairing behind the head light? Thanks

Even though I lived in Oregon most of my life and now I live in New Mexico, I was born in Nebraska and the Huskers are still my favorite team.

If you want an epoxy that is fuel resistant go to the local hobby shop and get the epoxy that is designed for use with nitro RC boats and planes if you plan to use the epoxy get some reinforcement material to cover the hole with, fiber glass cloth or similar a few layers will make a world of difference on the results. The tank can be brazed or welded, Just run an exhaust hose from a car or truck into it and let it fill with inert exhaust gas flush all the oxygen out and weld away. or if this is more than you want to tackle any welding shop can do the tank, no problem

Buy it now effectively cuts the reserve auctions, but if you want to try for a bargain then , try this in the search box no reserve Yamaha ????? or whatever your seach is for, when I do this the only auctions that show up are the ones with NR or No reserve in the title. otherwise its take the time to look through all of the auctions. I know in my hobby (coin collecting) reserve auctions are almost a thing of the past and BIN auctions prevail.
