  1. I should mention that after backing up, the drive will be disconnected from the system to prevent virus/malware migration onto the backup drive. Then once a month it will be updated after scans ensures there is no nasties on the pc. Thanks to all for contributing to this thread, it should help others as well.
  2. I found this microsoft article that explains how to use drives larger than 2.19TB , it is possible if...... http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/i-have-a-3-tb-drive-windows-7-ultimate-wont-format/b1cc3811-f25f-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5
  3. Thanks for your observations on drive dependability. Do you agree with what Brian said (post 2) about being able to overcome the HD size issue with win7 by formatting and partitioning a 3TB or larger hd ?
  4. GB drives are no problem. When they exceed 2.19TB Winders 7 can't handle them.
  5. I read several seagate tech articles, it appears that it's more a hardware design issue in how the HD is constructed and Seagate tech support claimed that reformatting or partitioning will not overcome the issues win 7 has with drives over 2.5TB I could probably have used it with an aftermarket backup software package but wanted to keep this as simple as possible, I'm a dangerous novice when it comes to computers, I know just enough to get myself in deep doo-doo This is a non-issue since I returned the 3TB drive and am looking for a reliable 2TB drive to replace it. Any you can recommend?
  6. I am in the market for a 2TB external drive to do backups of my win 7 64bit pc's. Seems most all the common ones (inexpensive) have tons of reviews claiming failures of one sort or another, :feedback: on helping me make a decision. I'm confused. I bought a Seagate backup plus 3TB drive only to find out that Win7 backup/restore doesn't like 3 TB drives. The drive is formatted in a way that causes the windows backup and restore to fail when creating a system image because it uses a native 4k sector size. Native 4k drives are not supported by Windows 7.
  7. I'd rather spend the $$ being proactive than to pay some scumbag to recover my data.
  8. After reading this thread and some online info I got to thinking that I need to backup some of our data, here is a question I have for y'all in the know. Both my home PC's run Win 7 64bit. I have another PC running Vista home premium 32 bit, with a 500GB HD, that does not get hooked online. Can I pull the files from the Win 7 machines and store them on the Vista box without having problems because of the different OS's ? My plan is to put files on flash drive sticks and then load to the vista machine. I'll be saving pictures, docs, quicken data, address and bookmark folders.
  9. Now all you need is an uncle Fester light bulb to complete the look.
  10. Thought this would look good on a pole at the end of your driveway. http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/bar/4160341115.html
  11. It was last weekend ! Nobody told you ? I had both my snowblowers there.
  12. You also need to inspect the STOCK license plate bracket that holds that HD light assembly on, they can and will crack. Mine did and had to be welded. The HD lights are a nice addition, I like them.
  13. used to stud the dirt bikes for winter fun, that was a looong time ago, It is a blast on ice.

  15. Looks like they're having a bit of trouble with the sever upgrade. The site was only supposed to be down for a short time but I still am getting this message. Warning: require_once(/home/triketal/content.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/triketal/public_html/index.php on line 4 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/triketal/content.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/triketal/public_html/index.php on line 4

  20. Semi-retired at this point, collecting a pension from the first job. I have a part time job now, 2 more years there and I'll be vested in their pension plan too. Then it'll be time to follow the birds in the winter.
  21. Well, it's official, my son got the job and will be starting on Nov. 4th. I'll be making a trip down there sometime in the next 2 weeks with a trailer load. I'm going to miss them, but what really sucks is my 19 month old grandson will be 18 hours away now. I am gonna miss the little guy.
  22. Day late, dollar short. The story of my life. ANYHOW
  23. We had a guy here in the Detroit area this week that got killed doing exactly that, lost control and crashed into a woman on the ground. It was just a practice run that went bad.
  24. Dan ! I thought you knew, bailing wire is a Harley parts keeper only.
