  1. Gary, please do not worry about Hijacking this thread. I started it to learn as much as possible so any discussion pertaining to Class A MH's is good. That being said, I will most likely be looking at units 5-10 years old to begin with. Until we downsize the homestead that's how it's gotta be. Unless like Joe say's, then who knows.
  2. Thanks for your generous offer Angelo. Unless a deal to good to pass up comes along we won't be buying till summer. Is there a chassis platform I should stay away from?
  3. Hey Bob, How about this weekend?
  4. You do, you just haven't met them yet. Still not sure where we'll park when we are in North Carolina
  5. I have looked alot at MCI, Flxible, Prevost, Newell,, all have tag axles and higher HP engines. The one big drawback I've come across with those type commercial/ conversion units is No slides until they are up out of my price range. A tag axle is a must with what ever I buy just for the ride comfort and towing capacity. When in Florida I will have 2 places to park our RV. One is at a friends place, plenty of room there. The other is a gulf front lot that another friend owns and has setup for RV's with water, electric & sewer, he only uses it for 2 weeks every winter and I could use that for the cost of utilities and taxes but would have to move for the 2 weeks he comes down with his TT. A short stacker would keep me under max length. The car is 18ft 3600# , the bikes 10ft Randy, We do plan to have a home base somewhere, most likely a cabin in Tennessee or N. Carolina along the mountains. Nothing is set in stone yet so who knows where we'll land.
  6. That didn't sound like any fun at all. At times we were only going maybe 30 mph , I felt like we were in the way and dangerous to other drivers being that slow.
  7. We did the conversion van & popup thing for many years and miles when the kidz were younger, we enjoyed almost every minute and mile. We have watched several friends do like you said, trade up,,, trade up,,, trade up I'm not going there. Our last trip west in a 36' Diesel pusher towing a 26' enclosed trailer with 4 touring bikes did teach me that I want at least 400Hp to pull those rocky mt. grades, the 300hp did it , barely Won't be an easy find but there's a rig out there somewhere with our name on it.

  9. I dont think condos and us would get along too well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
  10. Thanks Joe, I want to hear the bad stories too. A small cabin as a home base is an option we have talked about. Could be with one of the lots we buy. Who knows we may end up in Arizona or somewhere out south/west . Eyes open , FOR SURE,,, that's why I started this thread.
  11. We have traveled in MH's before and liked it. To start off, for the first few years we will keep the house too. The plan would be to spend the cold months split between North Carolina & Florida. Eventually selling the house and all. I am investigating the purchase of a lot in NC & FL . I have been eyeing a few Mid 50's Flxible's that have been converted/ restored, also a few MCI's . Camp clubs may be an option in the future. 5er's have their benefits, just not sure it's for us. My sister & BIL have a very nice 5er that would be easy to fulltime in. Bob, you think a motorhome gets poor mpg I'd need a tanker truck following me if I were to pull a trailer with the GS. Down hill in Neutral it gets 10 mpg
  12. Gene's rig is way out of my price range unfortunately. He does have a very nice setup.
  13. Those mpg numbers are amazing ! Does your MH have anything done to the drivetrain to achieve those numbers? What size/weight trailer you pulling? Pictures please! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
  14. Little NAW,,, Hold my beer and watch this
  15. Sick of the Snow and cold weather, bad roads, high taxes...
  16. Are you sure you're not thinking about boats and Fords ?
  17. golden Good call puc:happy34: I was wondering if someone would pick up on that one
  18. Scott, I'd like to hear more about theses engine/trans combos. I have been lurking around some of the RV forums trying to glean as much info as I can. I am aware of the higher cost of operation/maintenance with a diesel rig, but to get the same Tq & Hp from a gas rig would cost as much, if not more than diesel over the course of time. The idea of selling everything and hitting the road is an alluring thought.

  20. We'd be looking at buying a USED Class A Diesel MH. I would like to be able to take the GS and both my 2 wheeler, Jeannie's trike when we head out for warmer climates in the winter. Possible full time RV living in the future. I'm looking for firsthand experience's, feedback on the pros and cons of traveling with such a load. The following info would be helpful. Trailer type. Long enclosed or shorter stacker style. (Pros & Cons) Horsepower needed to pull grades at a safe speed with a 15K pound trailer in tow. Tag axles? Slides or not ?
  21. Just sent a PP for 2 decals. I added an extra .50 to help cover pp fees Thanks Don.

  23. RIP Harry, Thank you for your service Sir. Kic, I can't be there, so a vest pocket ride for me if ya have the room.
  24. Put me down for 2 Don. One for each bike.
  25. Retirement was killing me! I had to go back to work so I could get a rest
