Hello Everyone: Local news indicates a 27 year old Nicholas Schmidt of Grantsville UT died in a single MC crash at approx. 1:30 AM this morning. Evidently struck a sign along Highway 30 Lodgepole NE. His body was discovered at 5:30. Sad news sure hope it is not one of us.

Met someone at Sturgis last year from this group...
Phoneman1981 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I never miss a chance to meet or recruit new members. Sturgis can be a difficult place to meet or find one another. What worked good for us was to plan a meeting time and place ahead of the rally. Several of us met on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9:00 for breakfast at the Sturgis High School. Easy to find, plenty of parking and great food. Just look for the cluster of Yamaha's parked together. The school staff saved us a table with Venturerider.org on it. Great way to meet one another. Dludke, TX2 Sturgis, BJ66, Patrolman46 and Myself met up one morning. I hope I have not left anyone out?? Hope someone keeps the breakfast meetings going. We will not likely make Sturgis this year. Choosing to make Galena instead. Just not enough vacation time and money to make everything. -

Hello Jack. Thanks for sharing. Glad you were not injuried. I have not trailered my bike as of yet, but have loaded it in various trailers in an effort to do so. I certainly prefer my large tandem axle enclosed trailer with rear ramp door, but even then it is not the most comfortable feeling going backwards down hill, especially by yourself. I learned a few helpful things by reading your post. I want to share a story about my neighbor. Perhaps it might save another member from injury. My neighbor Bruce has rode a bike for years and trailered many times. Recently he was loading his Ultra Classic in a similar single axle trailer with a wide tail gate. He was alone at the time. As he rode up the tail gate the added weight on the tail end of the trailer caused the trailer tounge to become disconnected from the ball. The tounge went up, the trailer rolled ahead and the tounge came back down on the tail gate. With the unexpected incline he was unable to hold the bike. Fortunetly the trailer had tall sides and he was simply pinched between the bike and the side of the trailer. I shudder to think about falling head first off the side of a trailer and worse have the bike possibly tumble down on top of oneself. Thankfully no real damage or injury. But taught him a few things. Try not to load while alone. And he now puts a floor jack under the tail end of the trailer when loading and unloading to relieve the upward pressure on the tounge. Lessons learned.

Miles: I am sorry to hear of your incident. Glad you were not on the bike. Accidents do happen. At least the other driver admitted to it. Our Daughter lives West of Laramie in Saratoga. Our car has been damaged two different times while in the Laramie area going to or from our Daughters home. One driver left a half A$$ed note after doing $1000 damage. I reported it to the police and several months later our insurance company was finally compensated. The other was simply a hit and run at a Subway parking lot. I now try not to stop in Laramie!!! Hope you come out ok with any damage to your bike.

What I learned and my experiences at B2Mom's weekend BBQ

Thanks for the summary. I enjoyed reading it. We really enjoyed the Texas MD in April for the same reasons and hope someday to make this event as well !!! -
Thanks everyone for the support. I have learned the process for healing can be very different for everyone. The pain did not come on suddenly and I did not expect it to end suddenly either. After many months of trying everything from new boots, new custom orthodics, shots, drugs, accupuncture, Ultrasound, night splints I was still having issues. I was referred to the "Good Feet" Store in Fort Collins by one of my customers . They fitted me with yet another new pair of Orthodics and a new pair of shoes. I also purchased two "Strassburg" Socks to wear during my sleeping hours. I am happy to report that within a week I noticed a substancial improvment in my feet. The Strassburg socks are more comfortable to wear than the hard plastic night splints that I had been wearing at night. I feel they have helped the most?? The new othodics and cushions are very comfortable. A month has passed and this is the best I have felt in two years. Starting to enjoy life again. The Good Feet orthodics were pricey, but so were the other brands that I tried. Hopefully this might help others that are suffering also.

The bike just died for no reason today

After reading seveal posts about fuel filter replacements. I decided to replace my OEM filter with a clear glass filter. I relocated the new filter to a slightly better location than the stock filter. The clear filter has replaceable filters available for it at most big box auto parts stores. Yamaha dealers are not always close to your location. I also purchased a spare length of fuel line and a few fuel line "Splices" just incase I ever need to bypass the fuel pump on the road. Just one of many things I have learned on this site. -

Good News. Several months later. I ran into the injured rider at the utility office. Nice to be able to shake his hand. He has healed and is back to work and riding again.

I am really enjoying my lowered bike. Wish now it had been the first modification. Since we ride two up most of the time, I increased the air in the rear to 47lbs. That alone has made quite a difference. We were bottoming out and scraping the muffler tips occasionally. Seems much better now. With the added air, I can still sit flat footed on the bike. I really like how the bike handles and stops with the lower center of gravity.
