We need it, what's happening to him should have never happened, He never got the proper testing under comp to diagnose the brain damage, the adjuster went so far as to try to force him back to work though his employer can't take him back til his double vision and severe headaches resolve. It's going to be a long painful battle getting him the care he needs while trying to survive :/
-
We are looking at another year of him being out of work on medical while he STARTS the neuropsych tests needed in the coming weeks to determine the amount and kind of brain damage (semi decided to attempt to run over his work van) The lawyers said he may be out of work for 5+ yrs while the case moves along at the speed of Corporate America. He's been out of work almost 9 mons now. He's decided puttering around on a bike won't be a bad thing and he'll have something fun to do...

Would you like a slightly broken IT professional that's trained and educated in network engineering, programming and system administration? If so I can send you one out of work husband (out on head injuries ie slightly broken) who would be ever grateful to feel useful again and be ready to actually do that work setting up the servers and such. If so let me know, the poor guy needs work Tricia

I'm just curious. do the current parts on the bikes work as they are meant to, minus the chrome? If so why not check out a machine shop to see if either A, they can make replacement parts, or B. rechrome the parts. or C. make new parts and chrome them? I understand the expense involved. But maybe we can a shop that would be willing to make parts like this at a discount and could be a place all the VR members could use for replacement needs as the bikes age. I once had to do similar to a part on a F-150 that I couldn't get a replacement for...Just my 2 cents here. Kat

Thanks for the offer, it's appreciated, but I don't have the gas money to get there this yr. (hence the hitching a ride part) Right now I'm the sole income while the hubby still recovers from and unpleasant nudge from a semi last yr. and that's a whole different can of worms.
-
All this talk of roadtrips and food makes me sad lol. Can't go up there unless we hitched a ride and then there's the whole needing camping gear, etc, oh well always next year!

It's a good thing that the kiddo does. Brain injuries are complicated and often life long. My hubby was in a wreck last yr with a semi and 9 mons into this mess we are still no closer to knowing what his prognosis is with the brain injuries. The new lawyer told us we are looking at 5+ yrs of him being out of work and that long in therapy trying to regain skills he lost in the wreck....You never know what you have til you lose it.

Hey! I just got the MP endorsment on my License!
GAWildKat replied to StormRaven's topic in Watering Hole
LOL I have to way while you get a bike and learn the thing I would like some feedback from the Georgia residents about the Sunshine Learn to ride school in Lawrenceville. It seems very good and more flexible than the local course at the DDS. -
Someone in the chatroom asked this question and wasn't able to figure out how to post (English not being his first language) so I'm offering to give a hand since I can't find an answer already posted on the forum. I figured this info might be useful in the future to others who came across similar issues in Europe. Are the mufflers for a venture royale XVZ13DA (1990); are the original mufflers available in the U.S.? what mufflers did you mount. the JAMA-mufflers are not available any longer I contacted the producer laserexhaust in the netherlands and was told they don't produce them anymore. He says they must be TUV tested per the german regulations on vehicles. K, Thanx Kat

Seems I'm back to the original idea of making my own carrier for the kitty. Never thought transporting her would be this much fuss. Around town or to the vet she rides in my bike jacket...calls herself hiding away in it. I get shocked looks from ppl when they see this tiny white cat pop her head out for air, but she's been doing this since she was a kitten, doesn't matter if it is a 100 degree day, she'll get in the jacket, Just don't think we can do that on the bike for long trips....Any ideas?

My parents swore on the old electrolux vacs...the company that originally made them has since changed names. Here's their website.... http://www.aerushome.com/

to answer about the gas left in the hose from one person filling up to the next...there's approximately 1 gallon of gas left in the hose after you switch the pump off and hand the hose up. That is 1 gallon of gas you paid for but didn't receive. Now if ppl realized this we might have some outraged ppl out there. Used to you could switch the pump off and drain the hose into your tank to get all the gas you paid for. However once you hung the hose and drove off the gas in the hose would drain back into the underground tank. This only applied to the older gravity fed pumps where the hose is anchored above the pump. Not sure about the newer designs nor the chest high pumps. Only reason I know about this was I worked in a gas station once and the owner used to brag about essentially selling the same gallon of gas over and over and turning a nice profit on a builtin flaw in the pumps. Since I didn't drive (learned to drive at 26 ), it didn't bother me then, now it makes me go hmmmmmm.

Curious question, is there anywhere online to get these pet carriers? In my search the company seems to have folded and those carriers seem to have been the best thing to tote my cat around. if not is there anyone here that could machine me a carrier if I came up with a design? Said kitty won't stay home and won't go to a boarder either and needs medical care around the clock....Any ideas?

Since I don't have a bike yet I won't presume to jump on the octane thing in relation to bikes. However I've had my 96 caprice for nearly 10 yrs. My caprice has the same engine that the Vettes and Cameros of the same period. We bought it with 75k miles, it has just over 155k miles now. All oil changes have been done on schedule, all other maintenance, in relation to driving and operation have been done. What we've learned over the years is as the car has gotten age we've had to increase the octane to prevent pinging and increase economy. The other thing we learned was to use a 4 pronged sparkplug on the car to help with these issues. These weren't things we did overnight, these things were things we learned over the years.

I realize this thread is old. But I was wondering, could the lift method be taught at more regional things? I'd like to know that I could lift a bike if needed.

Haven't seen deer on the road this yr at night...buut I faced something alot more scary... In March hubby and I were out one Sunday eve with friends and we parted ways around 10pm, Hubby and I headed home and were on 247 N in southern Bibb County on an unlighted section of road when all of a sudden a sofa appeared out of nowhere in the headlights, there was no chance to avoid the debris, it was scattered over 3 lanes and there was traffic next to us. We still don't know how we avoided the big chunks of the sofa and still didn't loose traction on the foam. We were in the car, but it was the longest 30 secs or so I've dealt with in recent memory....

We've love to go, unfortunately other things atm are more pressing like I need tires on my car *grumble* We'll see if we can get to one of the meet and eats at some point this summer or fall.

:rotfl:LOL ummm NO! I made the mistake of letting the hubby drive the caprice after he bought it for me....now it needs bodywork from and I quote "Other ppl running into me!)" Any Venture we buy will be as a used bike anyway. Anyone who lives in the Macon area and has seen a black 90's model black caprice with a banged up front end and a pit style dent in the rear passenger quarter panel....that's my car! I'm still waiting on him to take it into a bodyshop and get an actual quote on bodywork. But that's another rant all together....
-
The Venture will not be the first bike, a yr or 2 down the road sure, I can ride a cruiser bike with a backrest w/o problems been doing that now for 5 yrs with friends lol.I want to make sure hubby is satisfied with the bike he gets as a first bike because he might not have the ablity to upgrade later when he's needing it. We considered getting a Venture at the same time (if we can afford it) and park it in the garage and crank and run it every few days to keep everything sound til he is able to drive it. Yeah, not the best idea for the bike but hey was a thought. Regards, Tricia

Hubby says his elbows bumped his knees on the 650 and thought that was a bad thing on a bike. there was no 750 to compare to that so the next one he looked at was the new fuel injected 950 Vstar and that had the best fit for his size, it's still a few mons off yet before we buy anyway, he wants a class before the bike. As far as quotes go, Progressive quoted me $353/yr for full coverage on a Vstar 1100 with no license and no classes yet... checked the 650cc bikes and the insurance is the same on them as the 1100. he looked at the 1600cc roadstar just to see what it was like but immediately walked away saying he needing to bulk up to move that thing lol. The 950 was something he could lift off the kickstand easily with no strain, he lifted it off the floor to test that and sat on it, but we'll see what happens.
-
Another thing I'm considering too is if we want to 2 up the 650 is WAY too small for the 2 of us, if 350lbs is the max it should carry even if we wanted to do a day trip to a state park or something we blow that out of the water with me sitting on the bike And yes, I plan on joining up...need to send that check in I guess heh. I'm pushing him to at least get his learner's now. Take the MSF class ASAP (prolly will register him next month like it or not) and start hunting a bike down for him. Also in the process of trying to move as well as the moment too but that's a whole different can of worms there...
