Don't Try this Kiddies. Not nice Border Guards.
GAWildKat replied to mrich12000's topic in Watering Hole
Annie, when in doubt you could contact the US consulate in Australia and see if they can direct you to know what the best procedure would be for bringing his meds over would be. And I know it's common sense but document who you have spoken to while getting everything for the trip sorted. Since you plan to visit Canada make those same calls over to their consulate. If you decide to go to Mexico, same procedure. May want to document the steps you've taken as well and do a write up for those who live over seas and want to come to the States for a trip. Just a thought. -

I've only been to Canada once, great ppl I might add. I think too (pre 9/11) that crossing the border @ 2am in Montana might have made a difference. But I was given no trouble at all. Now though, I think I'd get the riot act just for showing up. -
Dan....You can keep the grandkidlets I have my own nieces and nephews and 3 of my own that don't live with me. Some people just ain't mommy material.

I'm an asthmatic so most years I get the flu shot because it could be life or death for me. The sucky thing is I'm also very allergic to surgical steel as well. The one and only time hubby got the flu shot my doc suggested it as a preventative so it would reduce my chances of getting the flu. Well not only did we both get the flu within days of getting the shot but we were both really sick and I almost had to be hospitalized. Since then I get the shot and he doesn't so long as we stay away from the germ breeders (kids) for the duration of the cold and flu season. Yeah, some of our friends dislike that we camp out at home, but saves on the OTC expenses.

You may want to check the local laws. He may be in violation of certain laws and has to move. In GA a sex offender cannot live within X feet of a school, church and other places where kids go. While the landlord may think they cannot deny the person a place to rent, if there's alot of people with children in your community that might be grounds for a termination of their lease. Talk to an attorney and get the facts. I too feel badly that the great niece can't come near you either because the guy chose to act outside the confines of law and morals. Some of my fondest memories are of my great aunts and uncles I had growing up. Because of them I have a moral compass that my parents didn't fully instill into me.

Not sure if this is true or not, but a friend who is pretty reliable posted this warning on facebook.... wanted feedback if this was what Randy got earlier... VIRUS ON FB using YOUR pictures. It says you've been tagged in a picture, wants you to click on a link to see it. Then hacks into YOUR computer & ALL YOUR ACCOUNTS including BANKING & other secure accounts. It DESTROYS YOUR COMPUTER. Once hacked into your comp; it sends e-mails to your friends telling them they have been TAGGED in pics& starts the process again. PLEASE RE-POST URGENT!!

Disclaimer: I do not have an Iphone or droid, just giving my experience on cellphone providers. I had ATT years ago when hubby and I first married and in our local area it was ok but outside the local area in more rural parts of Georgia it was sketchy at best. What made us drop them as a carrier was when ATT canceled our service after a family member who wasn't on our plan called and canceled it out of spite. Since then I have used Virgin Mobile, Cricket, and tracfone. Service with all 3 is good, coverage has been superior to what I had with ATT, in fact there have been times where my Cricket service worked where Verizon does not. As others have said, always check coverage maps. And just because a company doesn't use a phone you prefer doesn't mean it can't be used on their network always. The EVO can be flashed to work on Verizon, Cricket, and other CDMA networks. From a computer geek's point of view I wouldn't go with apple anything. It locks you into their applications and hardware. And most of the time any repairs needing to be done must be done as a shipping service, meaning your phone will be unavailable for weeks while under repair. Yes some of the droid phones can be the same way as well I'm sure. Just my 2 cents

Any chance Annie will make it south to Georgia? While I don't have a bike yet I can show her the sights in Middle Georgia and take her on the historical tours while she visits. Can also get her a Cherry Blossom pin for 2011 when they become available. For more about the Cherry Blossom Festival: http://www.cherryblossom.com/about-the-festival/

I love living in the south. Where I live in GA we usually only see winter mix (rain/sleet/snow mixed) once every 2-3 YEARS. I have done a winter in Alberta and a winter in PA, never again will I travel to the great frozen north in winter much less live there. Some love the winter wonderland, me I look at it as a death trap. I can definitely see myself falling on ice and breaking a leg or worse.

My husband is from Connecticut, left there in 2000, never once has said anything about desiring to go back, save this year when he decided he should introduce me to some classmates from HS. Also decided that due to travel costs we will be getting a bike (ie Venture) before daring the trip. I've asked him many times would he move back north if it meant better jobs and pay and he swears it's not worth the stress. So, sometime next year I will be seen on a bike somewhere between GA and CT.

Can I recommend something guys? If you want to raise money through paypal and want the money designated to a specific cause like St Judes you should set up a bank account separate from your personal funds. making an email is easy, so is a bank account, and paypal is too. You can setup a paypal account that accepts donations only and therefore doesn't charge fees. Just a suggestion from someone who organizes fundraisers. Tricia

Yes, I think Annie definitely has her lingo down. According to my husband grits and boiled peanuts are an acquired taste. 10 yrs in the south and he still likes neither.

When you come to Georgia I'll make you a true southern meal if you like. It's a tad rare for me to do those because I married the Northern born (Yankee) husband from Connecticut

Annie, Buttermilk biscuits and scones are 2 different types of things, I make both on occasion, there's a different texture and flavor for them. both. And personally I like my scones with black currant jam.

Getting a first bike soon and need a gear checklist!
GAWildKat replied to GAWildKat's topic in Watering Hole
The information we've gleaned here has been invaluable. Not to mention the dysfunctional family atmosphere helps me laugh away my day's troubles. We're waiting until we take the MSF course before we decide on the learning bike. Either way however hubby will get a Venture. He fell in love with them He wants a comfy bike that I can sit 8-10 hrs on and not be sore from the ride and the Venture fits that. -

in response to hubby and me riding 2up... he plans on doing a min of 3 mons alone on bike before maybe less if gets used to it quickly. Plans on doing the MSC course in abt 3 weeks give or take. With me....first aid kits are a given I keep one on near me at all times Cell phones, are always a given. However I will need to get him a phone, he hasn't had one in 2 yrs, hates them lol. -

Yes, pillows are lovely, I have 4 down pillows on my bed right now. however I don't think they'd protect me if I slid on the pavement.....just sayin. And yes before I operate a bike on my own the MSC class is a must. Hubby has his learner's, but no bike. We agreed to take the class as soon as we can afford it next month. I have no concerns that he won't pass the class, he's a decent driver and puts safety above other things. I'm more concerned with my ablity in handling a bike and getting the shifting down during class. that worries me more than the other things because the other things are logical common sense things that improve with practice. -

Is anyone here that lives close enough to us willing to help? Unfortunately as with everything we do we're going at this alone. My only friends that do ride are HD junkies and would be mortified to hear that I am considering metric bikes. One even went so far to drag us to see an 81 HD shovelhead last night that needs more work than most of the running Ventures the guys on this site have. Not to mention that it was a chaindrive and those scare me. I know personally I want a reliable shaft driven bike that just needs normal routine maintenance from the start. If I sound like I talk for the hubby here, he agrees with me. He wants a bike he can take from school and work as well as something that would be comfy on a roadtrip that's multistate to suit my needs. He has the idea however that I shouldn't be stuck on the back of the bike tho, that I need to have the ability to go on my own too. That however will remain to be seen because I'll wait til I take my MSC class before I commit to riding more than a passenger. Also, all the comments today have been great. As a side note while we were looking at the bluetooth stuff for the helmets we weren't going to use them until we had miles under us except maybe for the benefit of me having music on long trips as a passenger. I understand too well the dangers of riding and not paying attention. -

Hubby will most likely need the armored leather and mesh jackets. He overheats alot easier than I do. Personally for me, I'd rather have the mesh as a just in case it's too hot outside like this summer was. My jacket is good enough save that it doesn't have armor. It's toasty in the winter. I just don't want to second guess myself when it comes to the gear. -
Ok, in the next few days to about 3 weeks give or take Hubby gets his first bike, maybe 2 if the price is right. Now I do have a bike jacket but is has no armor. What should we be getting in terms of gear for riding as well as other things not often thought of? Armored leather and mesh jackets armored pants or the kevlar that goes under boots gloves rainsuits helmets (what do y'all recommend there for bluetooth and intercom/music capablities?) Bike covers Yes this will be his first bike (bikes) and he wants the bike he learns on to go to me so we can ride together when we take trips within the state. I know we are both new to this and yes we will be doing an MSC approved course before we get too involved.

So how well do cowboy boots work with 2nd Gen Controls?
GAWildKat replied to GG54172's topic in Riding Gear
I just found this thread... My medical issues notwithstanding.... What do you bikers recommend for someone who rides as footwear? I occasionally ride with friends, but hubby is getting his first bike soon. Thus far I've worn MY cowboy boots I'm supposed to wear an AFO brace that corrects the foot drop when not in my boots. I prefer my western boots for the comfort and support they offer when on my feet, even my steeltoed work boots aren't comfy for long.
