I wasn't allowed to post this until it became official. May 1st, Mike was offered a fulltime position with the GA farm bureau after working the internship since March 18th. Mike not only met the requirements for the internship, but raised the bar for all future interns applying to the GA farm bureau. Today he was informed that he is starting as a full time employee on June 10th. Way to go husband of mine! Next May, Mike graduates with 2 Associate degrees in IT, one in Computer Programming, the other in Network Engineering. He should very likely grad with a 4.0 in both degrees. Seeing as we can't make MD and International this year, I don't see why we won't be able to make MD and International next yr.

Not me, Mike's last day at Radioshack is June 9th....it's official....

Well, if I didn't have other plans that weekend.. (Fri is my bday) and Mike didn't have to work the rest of the weekend, I'd force him to run down to Jax Fri night. Oh well, another time...

Very likely because you are on a trial membership. However as many of the guys will say, if you are hedging on getting a membership to the site, I say don't wait unless funds just aren't there atm. It will be the best $12 you will spend on an internet forum. My husband decided 3 yrs ago at 31 yrs old to start riding and wanted advice on bikes for the time after the MSF class. Many members chimed in with their advice and we took our time selecting our bike. I say our because this summer he will quite likely trike it and give it to me to ride. Not only will you find a family here that helps each other regardless of distance, but the tech advice and forums cannot be replaced with a free site. Even though we are of the younger crowd on the site there is nothing that can replace the assistance and friendships we have here.

This is why my husband runs linux...once all the games we play are linux compatible, then we'll ditch windows too.

Then that might be a mainboard issue, or the ir sensor is going bad. I'm not a tv tech, I just attempt it when the needs rise

In your case I'd go pick up a cheap tv remote at walmart and see if that fixes it before thinking it's the above issues.

I was given a flat panel tv last yr that wasn't working. The person who gave it to me had already replaced it and knew we didn't have one to use. If you can replace parts and/or build a pc/laptop from scratch you can work on flat panel tvs. It's a computer with a screen in one package. Often the powerboard or mainboard go on these tv from a power surge. Sometimes you can get away with replacing the fuse on the powerboard if the capacitors aren't blown. Usually a cheap part at Radioshack. Once you find the part number for the boards it's easy to find a site that sells the parts new. The Sharp TV in my bedroom needed the powerboard replaced, was $60 with shipping for a new board. If you need help finding the parts online let me know. Tricia

Beginning the Adventure of Restoring My 76 Chev Luv.
GAWildKat replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
I understand the desire to restore an older vehicle, although mine is for reasons different than most. I have a 1996 caprice classic 4.3L V8 that my husband has given the green light to start deciding what to do and the best way to go about it. My caprice is my 2nd ever car to own. Mike bought it for me as an engagement present. The 84 Olds cutlass I owned when he and I met was a good point A to B car but had problems, the biggest was the transmission was resealed with bathroom caulking before I bought it. Mike decided that instead of getting me a ring when he choose to propose a car would be a better choice. The car means the world to me. Noone had ever cared to do something that nice for me before. Fast forward 13 yrs later and the car needs a body restoration, interior restoration and other minor fixes. However he has decided that the car needs under the hood upgrades, new engine, tranny, etc. So who knows where my car ends up by this time next year. -

As many of you know Mike's been enjoying that new to him 1st gen...well I like it when I can get in the seat! I'm not short but my flexibility issues with the cerebral palsy make it a bit difficult to get on board. Mike was thinking of a small folding step stool that could be strapped to a rack on the left saddle bag. Lift the straps and secure the stool to the rack. Getting off is no problem. Feedback please.

He's already taken it on the parking lot spin learning the feel and heaviness of it and called home thrilled he didn't drop it! He's out taking our standard dairy queen run getting himself familiar with the bike before work in the morning.

Well (Atlanta) DragonSlayer has dropped the new to us 1st gen and Mike's out getting a feel for the bike and so far loves his new bike. Since a new bike requires pics I have a few for everyone.

Happy Birthday Don!

It looks awesome! Do I show Mike or wait til Bob shows up this weekend with the bike? Mike doesn't frequent the site often yet. And I won't reveal Mike's surprise news til next week. Hopefully the weather will hold this weekend til Mike has a few miles with the bike under him before Monday when he goes back to work...hopefully on the Venture.

I've ordered a few things from leatherup and like them. Mostly my helmets and gloves since there isn't alot of places to buy motorcycle gear locally. I need a new mesh jacket this yr.

I agree with Snaggletooth, spend time with the nephew. My husband and I will probably go visit my niece that I haven't seen since abt 1995 on the way to Vogel. I was abt 21 at the time and she's 18 mons older than me. My great nephew is going to be 21 this yr and I haven't seen him since he was a toddler. Goina be interesting if we can pull this off.

A few weeks ago Walter Stitt send Mike and I his tom tom that had failed thinking we might be able to fix it and have our own gps unit. With the move, working to get Mike's new to him bike I haven't had the time our forthought to post our findings regarding tom toms. Walter's Tom Tom (forget which model but it has lifetime maps) appeared to have a corrupted OS and needed a reinstall, he tried several times to reinstall the OS before giving up, replacing it with a garmin he found online. Upon arrival Mike researched the Tom Tom in question and learned from gleaning technical forums that Tom Tom had built in software code that is designed to randomly break the OS of the Tom Tom and prevent reinstallation of the OS. This problem was found most commonly on Tom Toms with lifetime maps. I don't think a solution has been discovered yet to get around the software break on the Tom Toms, but for those of you who own them and want to upgrade in the future. I would look at garmins with the lifetime maps. If Mike or I learn of a solution to the software break I will post an update.
