Say a prayer...
GAWildKat replied to GAWildKat's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Andi made it through surgery, she had a fibroid tumor the size of a cantaloupe on her ovary. Her OB is amazed she's been walking around with that thing several mons at least. She went to see him yesterday because she hurt, and got admitted for observation. About 20 mins before I posted the doc made the call to operate. She was back in her room about 8pm est, still drugged up and pale from blood loss, but hopefully on the way to recovery. I swear that woman scares me sometimes the way she ignores pain. Thank you to everyone. She's the closest family I have (yeah, we are related) and I worry when she pushes too hard. -
My best friend is being rushed into emergency surgery because she's bleeding into her abdomen since at least yesterday. Here's hoping rhe doc fixes her up. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

It's a bit far for me to go this weekend on short notice, otherwise I'd love to go.

Prayers sent, and let me know if anything is needed. It's an easy drive over should I need to run.

It's official, we set a date for our 1st Maintenance Day
GAWildKat replied to GAWildKat's topic in Watering Hole
There's no brake lights, horn, turn signals, tach, and a couple of other things in the dash. With Mike's school schedule there's just not enough time to tackle it alone. It's a restoration project at this point. Going take the wiring harness we found in the parts bin and start new, Also need a new clutch assembly, cruise control, cb/intercom controls on the handlebar needs replacing. There's probably more I'm not thinking of now, I have a lot on my mind today. -

Well Mike's Venture needs the wiring harness run and atm he's feeling overwhelmed with attempting it alone. he needs 1st gen parts too, but we want the electrical sorted soon. -
Funny thing is...I don't have a bike...the husband has 2!. I'm just a computer hardware geek. But the funny thing is with all Mike's bike troubles between the 2 bikes, I'm the one that goes looking for the troubleshooting things and gives him all the things that apply. I guess those yrs as a computer tech translate well to mechanics? lol

Seagate acquired Maxtor in 2006, before that they were separate companies. And Maxtor was the best hard drive manufacturer in the business imho at least in the 90's.

I should state I guess that this is in March. I'm planning this around Mike's college break. -
I agree and don't agree on the Seagate drives, back in the mid 90's as a college student I worked in the computer labs on campus. Part of my job was to repair all the student/teacher computers on campus, several thousand computers. All the computers had seagate drives at the time. The failure rate was so high that we ordered several hundred drives a quarter, in anticipation of drive failures during term. Keep in mind, as a student worker I worked 20 hrs/week on the clock. I would replace maybe 10 drives a day on campus, which meant more than once I worked off the clock too, since the school only hired 8 students to manage the entire campus. At the time I preferred maxtor drives, those were reliable regardless of price point. Now that they are part of seagate I won't touch them. Yes, computer geek talk is a lot like car/bike talk to us geeks. There are times I even go over Mike's head with computer parts talk (I got myself Intel certified this yr lol)

I haven't tried it yet, I haven't invested in a 3tb drive yet, but, I will ask Mike to read up on that. I would think you are correct, seeing as Microsoft has always built limitations into Windows. However I don't see where reformatting and repartitioning in linux would be a problem. Obviously, though, not everyone is familiar with linux.

As someone who builds and repairs computers enough to test drive dependability I can say get a Western digital external drive. All external drives are really an internal drive in an external enclosure. I bought a bunch of seagate drives a couple of yrs ago for upgrades to all the pcs in the house, all but 2 have failed and the only reason those 2 haven't failed is that system doesn't get turned on anymore, Used to I could go 10+yrs without a drive failure, but 2 yrs? seriously? I went back to Western Digital after trying seagate drives based on online reviews, never again!

I'll need a patch and a vest at some point to model for you. And I should at some point as Dad spent time down under while on active duty in WWII. With the holidays coming, funds are a bit short for extras. Hope you are feeling better though.

Hey Joe...doesn't that sound really familiar? lol Also glad that you will be ok as well.

Mike rides all yr, only time he hates riding is rain and high wind. The bikes (for now) are his work transportation. We are tossing around the idea of putting a voyager kit on the Volusia for me to ride, but that will be sometime next yr. Where we live currently, storage of a trailer is a concern too. I'm very much leaning towards letting my FIL store the van and trailer semi perm until we have our own home, where we aren't intruding in the space of a roommate. I agree that a 6x12 would be a better option. And if I do have to disassemble the voyager kit to load the bike, sobeit. When we can afford to buy a trailer that meets our needs and expectations and we're paying for it I can have a lot more input. But this is something my FIL wants to do and can't push him too much, it's very much a "time" issue as well as a budget issue. Mike and I are by no means motorcycle experts, and my FIL even less so. I'm thankful everyone here is awesome with input and guidance.

My dear FIL decided during Vogel that we need a trailer to tow the bikes and a vehicle to do so. The original idea what to convert one of his trailers for them and give us his conversion van he bought new in 89. Part of that plan is still on the table, the van. However after doing a thorough inspection of his trailer he made the decision to scrap it due to age, rust, and his thoughts about being able to rebuild the trailer given his health and level of physical activity. He found this trailer at lowe's and is thinking it will work. Pros? Cons? Keep in mind we have a 1st gen and a suzuki volusia. He would be adding wheel chocks to the trailer before we get it. From my standpoint, it's a lot of money to spend, but he never does anything low quality, he's picked out the wheel chocks already. If anyone has other suggestions for trailers, let me know. He refuses to buy from harbor freight, not had any good luck with things bought there. Thank you for listening.

Just to be clear from my POV....are we talking 1st gen or 2nd gen? the petcock on Mike's 87 is frozen in the on position and we debated replacing or repairing it when we tear it down.

Talk to the spousal unit about linux distros and the good, bad, and ugly of them. He uses Linux mint 12 on his main computer and centos on at least another and decided today he hates gentoo. Lol He's StormRaven on the forums. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

NO! Go linux and never look back. I refuse to upgrade to 8....even though I can get it for free. My next upgrade is linux.

Mike and I would love to go. But I think we will have to pass. Hotel expenses might just kill our budget. There's always next yr. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Mike and I celebrate 10yrs married in Nov. Seems like only yesterday for us. And while I get annoyed at him I refuse to trade him for a new model...I'm too old to train another one. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Update: I read on the FB6 forums that Miles was released from the hospital this morning. He has little to no hearing in his right ear and slightly more in his left. Apparently lightening hit the antenna on the bike and travelled the entire electrical system and went through the cb/intercom cable that went to his helmet. Time will tell how badly he was hurt yesterday from the strike but the ppl who have talked to him have said he doesn't remember the strike or stopping the bike. I hope he gets well soon.
