Happy Birthday Larry!
-
Both are nice places and almost an hr apart. There's a couple of chain hotels in Hiawassee but go to Blairsville GA and stay at the Seasons Inn, they are one of the hosts for the Vogel Rally, the service is good and the owners are awesome. And you are still closeby to Murphy and Hiawassee.

I'll chime in as well since I'm prepping for gastric bypass on Feb 2nd . What the nutritionist and my RN have told me, keep the portions small, 1-3 oz of protein, for you, closer to 3oz, and about 3oz of steamed, roasted, or baked veggies, nothing fried! watch the fat grams, you shouldn't have more than 16 grams of a healthy fat a day, that's about a tablespoon of olive oil a day, watch the salt intake. Get a cheap digital scale and weigh everything. Portion Control was my issue. Watch the rice, pasta, bread, etc, it's mostly empty calories, especially storebought stuffs. Eat 3 regular meals a day, even breakfast, limit the caffeine, the reason that was explained to me, is many of us who drink coffee, black tea, etc tend to get stimulated by the caffeine and overeat. Eat 2-3 high protein, low fat/ snacks a day between meals, drink at least 64oz of water, flavored herbal teas, etc. a day Also, your goal is at least 80 grams of protein a day. Don't go over 120 grams of protein a day. Protein shakes are often the easiest way to go. Pure Protein is one of the better cheaper brands of protein shakes. The best sweetners imho are stevia and agave syrup, although be careful with agave, some people have their bloodsugars rise while using it. Losing weight is hard, going my route and doing gastric bypass, even harder, I will be on special supplements for life, I will be managing what I eat for life too. Exercise like walking is also key to burning fat. That's all I can think of now, hope it helps.

I got a new tablet, and some games both for pc and xbox, Mike got a new pc keyboard, and a tablet (still waiting on his tablet). His parents gave us a few odds and ends and a lot of high calorie snacks (I did mention I'm having gastric bypass in Feb, right? lol All in all it was a good Christmas, even if it seems we spent a lot of the time on the road. Hope everyone had a good Christmas as well.

Mine's not a very interesting story, I got in fights a lot as a kid (usually with older boys) and the other kids would say I was wild as a wildcat. When I got on the interwebs I took WildKat as a nickname in the online chats, some people do call me Kat in real life. As WK got to be popular on the interwebs I added the GA since I'm a born and raised Georgian. Apparently the GA confuses some people. Maybe this thread will help? Maybe? heh. -
Actually, I went to buy milk this week, with me prepping for gastric bypass, and a 23 yr old in the house, the milk goes fast. This week I paid $2.49 for milk @ Kroger!, lately it's been over $4, the next cheapest place to get milk was the Aldi's across the street for the same price, but their prices haven't raised or lowered in months. Also thrilled that gas prices came down too. Now, if the rest of the food prices and cost of living expenses would drop too.....

When Mike and I do Christmas at home and not traveling to his parents I do a scaled down southern style dinner with ham, dressing and a sweet potato souflee, green beans or Lima beans are added too, I have offered to mix in a bit of new England style fair, but he prefers what I grew up on. (BTW, neither of us are huge Turkey fans) Next year will be interesting, let's see if I can make a gastric bypass friendly dressing..…

Are you on facebook or can pop into the chatroom? Mike says he can give you a hand walking you through getting chrome installed. Tricia

Anyone remember the Auranthetic bikes called CHARGERS ?
GAWildKat replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
I want that! I could piddle around town (if I don't get creamed!) and do some light shopping and such, otherwise, it's a great looking scooter. Good finds like are hard to come by. -
I agree with Boomer on that, lots of my female friends text and drive, they see no problem with it either. I will send the occasional short message @ a stoplight, any longer than that and I will pull off to do a message. My Traverse has the onstar mirror so my phone is connected to that, beyond those options, I don't need my phone while driving. And if you call me while driving, I may or may not answer it. I don't see where the laws do anything to anyone except after an accident occurs. Then the government gets to charge fines and such to the offender. Just my 2 cents there.

Well I promise to not send Mike to the hospital in his grim reaper costume. Yes, he has one lol. I hope all goes well today for surgery and after. Take care Jeff.

As a lot of you know, I just moved. Other than wanting a shorter commute, we looked for an area with a low crime area, and amazingly, we found it. we love the area, we have a rental on an acre in the woods, out in the county, no crime, and a quiet place. Sadly I'm still unpacking. So Lewis, there are oasis' everywhere, it might be worth househunting again. I use an app on my phone called life360, it gives me crime stats based on my gps location, Mike can also track my phone to keep tabs on me, given my health issues it gives everyone in the house peace of mind about my day.

Hoses look good, the weather hasn't cooled enough yet to think it's weather related. MAF sensor could be bad, but it acts worse than my caprice did when the MAF kicked it. They inherited the pathfinder from Alaura's mom, she bought it with the oil leaks 5 yrs ago. Trent keeps the oil maintained because this is his work transport, Alaura's school transport. Her mother ran it nearly in the ground with little more than basic maintenance and then gave Alaura the keys, but no title and says if it breaks, fix it. Alaura is not mechanically inclined like the rest of us, if she didn't have us right now she'd be up a creek w/o a paddle. I know it's good to make kids self reliant, but the kick em to the curb almost never works well. Alaura feels abt that way with her mom over the pathfinder. I can't say I blame her. Its been one thing after another since April, abt the best thing that happened was us taking them in.. Sorry to rant, just frustrated over everything.
-
Also there is a heavy coating of old engine oil around all the plugs, likely a blown head gasket, something Alaura's mother has known about the last 4yrs of owning the car but unwilling to fix. I've been less than impressed at how she cares for her daughter.
-
Scott, the plugs he pulled thus far are very worn, they look like the originals or close to. The electrodes were very worn as well. I asked him abt the carb cleaner, compressed air, etc, he goes where is it all, I point to the carb cleaner sitting by the front door... Penetrating oil is still in a box, he grumbled and stomped back off to his computer. He's now shooting things to vent his annoyance at me stating the obvious...lol

219,000 miles, fuel filter was changed yesterday, fuel pump seems to work. We are questioning the cat and whether to also replace or drill it out. Alaura's mom still owns the pathfinder, but refuses to maintain it, says the kids need to maintain it. Which I agree to a point, but the kids are 3hrs away from her and trying to get through school.
-
The cousins' pathfinder started sputtering and stalling out fri while out running errands. Get it towed home and Mike and Trent started going through it yesterday trying to figure what was wrong. Alaura's stepmom, who previously had all the maintenance done on the pathfinder said the distributor had to be replaced within the last 4yrs. So Mike started looking at the simple stuff, plugs and wires. Well every plug is over torqued and the plugs themselves keep breaking apart as he attempts to back them out. He got the front 3 out (in peices) the 1st one on the back he attempted to remove did the same thing, he's at a loss of how to tackle removing the ones on the back. I'd personally be going car shopping abt now, but they need a car to commute to and from school and work and I won't always be available to take them. Any ideas? Could use a miracle about now. TIA Tricia

My 2 cents here, I'm pregastric bypass now. At 39, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I'm 5'6 and 215lbs (atm). I qualified for gastric bypass in June, the docs immediately put me on the postop diet to assist me losing weight until I have surgery. I lost 15lbs. The key is getting enough protein to stay full. Everyone needs between 60-80grams of protein daily. The body can only absorb 30 grams at a time, so it is best to keep portions small. 2oz of meat, beans, or eggs is abt 10grams. Try adding greek yogurt to your meals, I use it in the place of mayo in my chicken or tuna salad, it also adds protein without all the fat and sugar of other yogurts.

My oldest is 14, the youngest is almost 2, none of my kids live with me, not by my choice either. Currently, I'm taking in 2 homeless cousins (not related to each other, both related to me) because family drama from the girl's mother forced them on the streets, literally, both fulltime college students with nowhere to turn. Alaura still needs to grow up a lot, she acts too much like her mother, who lives for drama, Trent is a good boy who is trying to get an education and get ahead in life. So, here's hoping I make a good impact in their lives.
