rstd mud fap fitting qustion
troutman replied to kca's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
A word of advice...when you put a flap on be sure to keep an eye on how your tread looks on your back tire. The flap does not affect the tread but you lose that quick glance ability when you walk around your bike to check everything. Be sure to lift the flap once in a while and make sure you got plenty of rubber on the road. Not trying to sound childish or corny but as the saying goes "Out of sight and out of mind". -
New Fairing for 2008 RSTD
troutman replied to troutman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Wade 2000, Yes I believe the fairing WILL NOT work with a full size light bar. If you look at mine I went with the mini lights. I actually bought them at Walmart for $40 and they work great. I just mounted them on top of the factory bolt that holds the turn signals in place. -
New Fairing for 2008 RSTD

Agreed that it looks like any other fairing but there are not a lot of options for the Royal Star. Why not by a Venture? Because I did not want to spend $4000 extra dollars for a fairing with a cassette decks and a trunk that is not big enough to hold full size helmets. Don't get me wrong...I have seen a lot of nice Ventrues but I don't have a lot of extra cash sitting around and my bike is paid for. -
New Fairing for 2008 RSTD
troutman posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have seen many posts on this site regarding questions around fairings for RSTD's. I recently purchased a Wide Open Customs fairing from owner Ben Coppock in Oswega, Kansas. I have researched the different fairings that fit RSTD's for over a year and am VERY pleased with the product I got from Wide Open. It was literally 30 minutes from box to first mock up fitting on my bike. The entire process to mount the fairing and wired the stereo system took about 6 hours (I took the tank off, used heat shrink on all connections and took my time to hide all the wiring). Ben sends you a very nice set of heavy chrome brackets that will fit right on the factory mounts. I DID NOT have to take apart my factory windshield in any way. I got the upgraded JVC system and it sounds awesome. I also elected to purchase the Klock Werks windshield and the Freedom Wings that attach to the bottom of the fairing to redirect air. The entire set up (fairing, all the hardware needed to mount to my bike, JVC steroe and 4 JVC 300 watt speakers, Klock Werks windshield and Freedom Wings) cost me $1200 shipped directly to my house. I would recommend their product to anyone looking for a fantastic fairing that looks great, sounds awesome and is very easy to put on the bike. -

All, I am looking to add a venture tour pack truck, backrest and such to my 2008 RSTD. I have the hand grips and the trunk itself. I need the backrest, mounting brackets and other pieces. Where can I get a list of complete parts and where can I get the parts? I know I have seen some of the other RSTD owners do this and post some awesome pictures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Three riders in our STAR charter have these trailers and we love them. In July we took them on a 2500 mile ride on the way to Deals Gap to run the Dragon. Took them down the Dragon several times. We had no problems what so ever with the trailers. I pulled mine behind our 2008 RSTD. I have the trailer painted to match the bike. My wife rode with me and we were able to carry enough clothes for a week, leathers, two full face helmets and all the other stuff she need to bring (hair stuff, makeup, toiletries, etc). The trick to using these trailers is to go to Walmart and get a few Space Bags. Get the ones that have the one way air valves. You just have to roll them up and the air goes out. It really cut down on space needed and they laid perfectly in the bottom of the trailer. All three of us were able to unhitch the trailers and roll them right into our hotel rooms. Very cool to be able to unpack in the room and have everything secure in the room. We got our trailers from Tom Simmons in Fayetteville, Arkansas. You can look him up on line at TS Custom Seats. Call out...make sure you maintenance the wheel bearings regularly. Keep them packed full of grease and be sure to check them after a long trip.

I want to give a call out to unsmustang for this thread. I just installed my new Flanders bars and with the help of this write up it only took me about three hours start to finish. The bars are awesome. I have only got to sit on the bike in my garage (raining today) but I can easily tell the difference. Again if you are considering changing over to the Flanders bars I would highly advise you contact Rick at Buckeye Performance. He will hook you up. I have a stock set of 08 RSTD bars that are here for the taking if someone wants to pay shipping. I have the box my Flanders came in so it would be pretty easy to ship.

Look at this thread in the RSTD section. It has everything you need to know about the conversion and using the factory lines. I too went with the longer lines from Buckeye Performance. My kit arrives Monday via UPS. Rick is a great resource at Buckeye. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37770

Evening all, I am looking for a pair of Venture passenger grab bars to put on my 08 RSTD. I am going to bolt the front of the grab bar on the fender bracket (just like on a Venture) and then fabricate something to hold them together behind the seat with a mount running to my rear seat bolt. I want to do this so I can add the Venture passenger arm rests that Diamond Accessories sells. We are headed to Deals Gap in July to run the Dragon and go to Star Days. I am trying to make my wife's ride a little more comfortable without putting on the entire Venture pack (too expensive). I have a Corbin seat which we both like so I don't want to replace it. I have tried Pinwall cycle but they don't have any. Any one got another source for used bike parts or maybe have a set on a shelf in their garage that they would want to sell?

I too ordered these bars from Rick at Buckeye Performance. Luckily he got the last two sets from his source and will ship them to me around June 24th or so. Rick said that the folks at Flanders told him they are having issues keeping up with the demand and having a raw material issue. If anyone out there wants to order these bars for your RSTD I would HIGHLY recommend you talk to Rick at Buckeye Performance. Outstanding customer service and follow up. I am trying to get my bars on before my Charter heads to Deals Gap in July to ride the Dragon and he was doing everything he could to make that happen. Rick called me three times to keep me informed of the status of my order. In today's world an e-mail is sometimes the most you can hope for but Rick took the time to actually pick up the phone and... 1. Apologized for the inconvienence 2. Tell me what he was doing to try and fix the delay. 3. Followed up with an update 4. Called me with a resolution when he had one. I work in supply chain for a major corporation and understand how a customer feels when something they want to purchase is not available. Take a minute to go to buckeyeperformance.com and see what they have. Rick is the man.
