winterizing tips
Trader replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know it was just a typo....but isn't that called a freudian slip? A wife brush....makes your head spin just thinking of all the possibilities doesn't it? -
I think high shipping is just a way for them to rip off ebay. Sellers pay a commission on the selling price...not on shipping. So a low selling price & High shipping charged = low commission paid & more in their pocket. If a few of them were reported maybe it would be policed better

New Guy Questions?
Trader replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi Tom....and Welcome to the mad house! you will find this site is a great resource for tech information, mechanical help, moral support...and just fun to read and "meet" some of the inmates too! It has been without a doubt the best $12 I have ever spent on my bike! (and a bit more for "donations" when the bike went down) I only bought my 2 VR's this spring and summer ('83 and '84) so I can't help you with shock pressures etc on your new bike...but I can answer some of the other questions. If you go to the "Venture History" menu (3rd from left on upper blue bar) it has a section of the various evolutions of models over the years. it explains features, models, specs etc. Also, do yourself a favour and try out the Search tool (lower menu bar, 3rd from right) you will find a lot of the basic questions you may have will have been asked and answered over the years. It might save you some time (and money) . Lastly, you can ask as many questions as you want...but I have found that some may get lost in the shuffle so it might be best to keep it to one or two per post. So....once again....welcome! There are folks here from all over the US and Canada...as well as Austrailia, Germany, Iceland, England and a few others too...and they all seem to be pretty darn good folks! (well....MOST of them anyway:stickpoke:) Enjoy your new ride. Oh....one more thing....some people get right upset if you don't follow one of the most important "rules" of this site. People want to see PICTURES!!!!!! So show us the new bike already! -
IT CAN BE HARD KEEPING A STRAIGHT FACE AS A COURT REPORTER These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place. ATTORNEY: What was the first thing your husband said to you that morning? WITNESS: He said , 'Where am I, Cathy?' ATTORNEY: And why did that upset you? WITNESS: My name is Susan! ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact? WITNESS: Gucci sweats and Reeboks. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you sexually active? WITNESS: No , I just lie there. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: And in what ways does it affect your memory? WITNESS: I forget.. ATTORNEY: You forget? Can you give us an example of something you forgot? ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo? WITNESS: We both do. ATTORNEY: Voodoo? WITNESS: We do.. ATTORNEY: You do? WITNESS: Yes , voodoo. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Now doctor , isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep , he doesn't know about it until the next morning? WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam? ____________________________________ ATTORNEY: The youngest son , the 20-year-old , how old is he? WITNESS: He's 20 , much like your IQ. ___________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Were you present when your picture was taken? WITNESS: Are you shi.........ing me? _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: She had three children , right? WITNESS: Yes. ATTORNEY: How many were boys? WITNESS: None. ATTORNEY: Were there any girls? WITNESS: Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney? ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: How was your first marriage terminated? WITNESS: By death.. ATTORNEY: And by whose death was it terminated? WITNESS: Take a guess. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Can you describe the individual? WITNESS: He was about medium height and had a beard ATTORNEY: Was this a male or a female? WITNESS: Unless the Circus was in town I'm going with male. _____________________________________ ATTORNEY: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney? WITNESS: No, this is how I dress when I go to work. ______________________________________ ATTORNEY: Doctor , how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people? WITNESS: All of them.. The live ones put up too much of a fight. _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: ALL your responses MUST be oral , OK? What school did you go to? WITNESS: Oral... _________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body? WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 PM ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time? WITNESS: If not , he was by the time I finished. ____________________________________________ ATTORNEY: Are you qualified to give a urine sample? WITNESS: Are you qualified to ask that question? ______________________________________ And last: ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing? WITNESS: No.. ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? WITNESS: No. ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor? WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

Best bike gloves I ever owned were given to me by a friend. No Idea what kind they were. They were a leather gauntlet type.(if that is what it is called...it had the long forearm part of the glove) On the back of the wrist area was a zipper that allowed a plastic mitten to come out of a pouch. you had to take the glove off to get it into the mitten but it provided extra protection in sever cold and rain proofing. Then when not needed, you just stuffed the plastic mitten back into the pouch on the back of the wrist and zipped it up.

I think the auto delete after 30 days would work just fine. if the ad is relisted or still there after 30 days it would be no biggie for the seller to repost to the section. I've only been on this site since the spring...but I'm truely impressed! GOODONYA!

1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Trader replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
being such a mish-mash of parts....was it a salvage title on purchase? That would explain the great price too! I believe that up here in Ontario we can't license a salvage title...no matter how much new parts we put into it. (or is it we just can import a salvage title?) I have a '84 Maroon STANDARD (original paint)....it never was a Royale...no class, no CB, no cruise -
the idea of taping is also to minimize splintering or cracking...it's not just to protect the plastic from the jig saw feet.

1984 Venture but is it a Royale
Trader replied to snow4brains's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
woo hoo! Congrats on the new purchase! How much did you get it for? -
I saw a guy at a variety store with a halloween mask on (it was early halloween night) but still... the thought crossed my mind to make a note of his license plate #. It's a sick world....and it is going to get worse.

According to household tips flattening the roll is also supposed to reduce useage because it doesn't unroll so readily. Kids don't just give it a spin. But the big question is....is it supposed to unroll inward or outward? The change for a $5 bill would do us canucks no good at all...we would get 2 toonies and a loonie! (those are coins for some of you unknowing yanks!) Now Canadian Tire money is a different subject!

As we get older, and the fact we are targets for cagers, chances are, we, or our family may need medical services in the future, which may include blood transfusions But....more and more it is becoming evident that bloodless surgery is the best for patients. As some may know, I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and so I refuse blood for religious reasons. This is NOT meant to be a religious discussion! I wanted to provide some links where you can get information on the use of blood so you can make your own decisions. For me...it is because I believe that is what God wants for us...but it also is just GOOD MEDICINE! One link is a well known PBS news show. Another is a preview of a video put out by Jehovah's Witnesses. I promise that the fulll length video is not "preachy"...it is a logical and very good examination of the use of blood and an explaination of alternatives to blood transfusion. Again....this is not meant to push my beliefs on anyone (that's not what we do anyway) but is an interesting subject that could affect us individually or our family. SO IT"S GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT! Here's the links www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/health/video-blood-test-what-you-dont-know-about-blood/3036/ www.watchtower.org/e/vcae/article_01.htm www.jw-media.org/gbl/gbl02e.htm you will see there are several links for more information on the Watchtower site. ...again...these videos do not push the beliefs of the Witnesses....but do provide good information. IF anyone wants to discuss the religious aspects of this subject I would be willing to do so via PM's. If anyone, after seeing the previews and checking out the other links, want a copy of the DVDs distributed by JW's, I could arrange to get a copy for them. PLEASE don't turn this into a religious discussion or I'm sure it will be pulled by the moderators.

just to be sure....the original post was VERY MUCH "tongue in cheek"...meaning not really intended to be taken seriously...just a fun idea! Didn't mean to get anyone started on any rants or anything! By the way...I was told that in Canada it is the based on the best 5 of the last 10 years before you start drawing. I retired when I was 52 after 35 years of paying the maximum into the system...(more correctly went self employed). But.... I will be drawing the absolute minimum because I will not have contributed a dime for the last 10 years before I draw.

I used to ride an 83 900 seca with clip on bars and a sport faring on it. The bike would do about 140...which I did on a regular basis and I just LOVED getting low into corners! Then I started to realize that if I had a head on collision with a squirrel at that speed I would probably be dead or badly injured and I had young kids at the time. Plus...it was not a very good example to others if I was to blow past someone doing 140 mph (in a 50 mph zone out in the sticks) and then pull into the Kingdom Hall parking lot! So ....I sold that bike and caged it for the last 20 years. This spring I bought the VR. Figured it was time to get back into bikes and a big comfortable touring bike would keep me slowed down. It has.....somewhat! but I still love the corners!

I don't know what the big deal is.... if folks can ride a snow mobile when it's below zero, why can't you ride a bike...as long as the roads are clear of course. You just have to dress for it. When I lived in Southern Ontario (a few miles W. of Niagara Falls) I used to ride 45 min. to work and rode almost year round. Ever had to scrape the frost off the seat so you don't slide off?? Admittedly, once or twice I got surprised and had to ride home in a few inches of snow. Very slowly...and using my feet as outriggers! The bike was a light lighter than my VR That was not fun!

the angle thing might even make escape easier. I keep an eye on my mirrors and had to move into the intersection to get out of the way once...just luck that nothing was coming from the side.

I was doing the tourist thing about 4 years ago and saw a launch when I was at Disney Epcot center. The next day after the launch I was at Kennedy space center. Pretty cool stuff. My cousin told me she attended a function where one of the moon walker astronaughts was speaking. Relating what it was like waiting for the countdown he said " Its pretty sobering to think that you are sitting on top of what is basically a bomb with more power than that dropped on Hiroshima...consisting of hundreds of complex systems, electrical circuits, computers etc.....and it was all supplied by the lowest bidder!

they may pay interest monthly...but the rate is an ANNUAL rate of return...NOT monthly.

Say what???!!!!! I want to invest all my money in whatever bank you get that from.... 60% ROI in a bank account...not bad! I'd like to see any bank even give you 5% per YEAR these days! Most seem to be 1.5-3% per year. 5% per year would still give you $60,000 while maintaining the original million....but the idea was to SPEND it and fix the economy.

It's amazing how many products are 90% imported parts and only ASSEMBLED locally. I don't know what the actual pecentage may be...but I know "made in USA" or "Made in Canada" is a joke anymore....especially in the auto industry!
