  1. 2005 ford escape 4 wheel drive I want to take the calipers off the front...2 bolts ....should be pretty straight forward BUT..... 3/4" is sloppy, 11/16 to tight 19 mm is sloppy, 17 mm to tight I have 2 sets of metric and 2 sets of standard tools and neither have anything in between. Am I missing something?
  2. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm in great shape! HEY!.....PEAR IS A SHAPE!!!!!!
  3. I have an old John Deere 316. I THINK it is a 1976 and it is still going strong. I bought it used for $600 about 12 years ago and other than oil changes and plugs every few years.....and bearings on the mower deck twice I haven't had to do anything. I've redone the paint...but it still fires up every time! Its starting to blow a little oil when I first start it...but it stops smoking once it warms up and it still runs good. I use it summer for the lawns (about 3 acres) and winter with a blower. I think I have got my $600 worth. I'm sure I could sell it for at least that....I've seen blowers for that much alone!
  4. OMG!!!! Is this going to turn into another long drawn out "I GOT THE LAST WORD IN " like the "good grammar" thread?
  5. The boat I got last year has a set of air horns in it. I don't think I need them on the boat as much as on my '83 vr! I haven't dug into it yet so I don't even know what parts need to be moved...I assume there has to be some sort of compressor as well as the horns themselves. I've read about needing relays when adding just about any electrical stuff to our bikes. Is there a concern of how much power they draw? what relay do I need? (if any) Does the relay used depend on the draw? I assume it goes on the hot wire between the battery and load? I wouldn't think so, but just to be sure, should it be close to the battery or close to the load or does it matter? And lastly....what the heck does a relay DO anyway?
  6. We all have rights, but some idots with loud pipes infringe on MY rights to the peaceful enjoyment of my home and property and many public places. If I wanted a lot of noise I could have lived or played right beside an airport. I totally agree that loud pipes and boom box stereos should be regulated! It's not your rights that are being trampled....it is the rights of others that your noise may be affecting that are being protected!
  7. Northern Ontario and Eastern Ontario are beautiful to ride in and beautiful to see. Rock outcrops, thousands of Lakes....twisties one after the other! I find Toronto to Windsor flat and boring (IMHO) A superslab (the 401) runs from Windsor Thru Toronto to the Quebec border if time matters If you cross at Buffalo or Niagara Falls, the Niagara Penninsula is very nice but plan to take Hwy 3 or Hwy 20 to head from Niagara Falls to Hamilton. is much nicer than the QEW (another superslab) From there you could take Hwy 6 north (which leads to Tobermorry and Manitoulin Island) and either head East past Algonquin and towards Ottawa, or West to the Soo If you cross at Sault Ste Marie, head to Manitoulin Island Ferry to Tobermorry (Bikes are first on, first off) then either go to Niagara or stay north as you head east towards Ottawa. I find the north shore of Lake Ontario is a bit "ho-hum"...but there a lots of interesting little towns...and you don't have to ride the slab....there is always Hwy #2. (Toronto to Kingston) Picton (Prince Edward County) is pretty. If you end up in Toronto I agree that you want to park you bikes out of downtown and take the subway. If you want to head to Ottawa, go cross country....maybe by Hwy 7. It is a secondary hiway...mostly 2 lane, slower but more interesting than the 401 In Ottawa there are fantastic museums of Art, War, Nature, Transportation, Aviation, and Man. You can take a tour of the Parliment buildings....pretty cool architecture there too! A little known fact is that Kingston was the first capitol of Canada (for about 1 1/2 years) . The fear was that Kingston, being right on the n. shores of Lake Ontario, was too vunerable to US attacks. (the big meanies!) So they moved it further North to Ottawa Ottawa is only a little over an hour by Hiway to Kingston/ Gananoque . Very pretty area...1000 Islands cruises....can cross back into NY at Watertown. So no matter where you go, Ontario has lots to offer. Major downside of cruising Ontario is that gas is right now sitting at about $5.00 per US gal (1.25 per litre)

Nothing too major....I'm thinking the (83) Blonde VR may not see the road this summer...but I have the (84) Red Venture also. I need to put the clutch kit in it and it should be good to go. The Blonde is running only on 3 cyl. so I need to sort that out. I'm putting in progressives, Condor brace, fork seals fuse kit, battery sensor bypass, anti dive block off plates, SS brake lines, new plug wires and heavier battery cables. I also have new diaphrams...thinking I might just rebuild carbs too. of course I'm going to clean up electrical connections etc...and I'd like to put some more lighting front and back. I haven't experienced any issues with the 2nd gear on the Blonde and I don't know if it has been done or not. Red was done by PO. I need the cables for intercom....driver and passenger, maybe a 2nd radio (with cassette of course) for Red. 83 and 84 working TCI for spares? Not really sure what else. What have you got???? Any other suggestions on work?
  9. Count your blessings! You could be like us northerners and have snow and ice. At least you can ride!

thanks guys....that was embarrasingly easy! I've been all over this site and never noticed that before.
  11. Waterfall???? we ARE desperate aren't we?
  12. Not even sure if that is the correct term. What I mean is to be able to quickly go back to a thread of interest. I've been kicking around here for almost a year and I STILL haven't figured out how to "subscribe" to a particular thread. Brace yourself....I'm just about ready to start tearing into my 83 blonde! The flood of questions will soon start!
  13. I"m thinking of buying a parts cleaning bin. But, is there really any advantage to having one as opposed to just using a bucket with some cleaner it it? Floor space is limited, $$$$ are limited too! do they include filters or do they just pump dirty fluid? Is there a vibrating action or are they just static? Any recommendations?
  14. 8'ft wall of water heading to west coast of USA It Hit Hawaii already and they said not a "damaging event" Scary stuff!
  15. I have had 2 NATURAL GAS (not propane) vehicles at different times in the past. One was a 90 something Ford Tempo, the other was a 99 Chev Cavellier. Both could run on either gas or NG with the flick of a switch. I tried to run NG as much as possible as it cost about 1/3 what regular gas would cost to run the same distance. The tanks are very safe and nearly bullet proof. Certainly not just a BBQ tank! If you ever have lifted one out of the vehicle you would appreciate the weight of them. Most cars that are converted also have heavier springs installed. A big negative was the tank takes most of the trunk. I had room for my lunch box and that's about all! I had to drive 65 Km to work (130 km round trip) and the range of the tank was about 180 km so that meant I had to fill up every day. I had a choice of 2 NG stations on the way. There are NG compressors available for at home use...but the rental cost was not worth it for a single vehicle....you needed 2 or more to justify the cost. The vehicles were both less peppy with NG...but not a total dog...and when I needed a boost I just switched it to gas for a few seconds. The Ford had a problem with the valves which totaled the rest of the engine. I was told in the early years the valves could not handle the added heat of NG but that they can now (due to ethenol)
  16. Thanks for restoring it Don! You are right about my not knowing anything about the Tide Foundation...I have never heard of them. I guess some could argue that the message is political in that it is anti-capitalism. But no matter what political system you may believe in, Buying "stuff" is what the world economy is based on. I think the message we need to get is what is the real cost of the stuff we buy. The cost of disposal, pollution etc. If we all stopped buying stuff, world economy would probably collapse...and other than my religious beliefs I don't have any other answers. But it sure was an eye opener!! If you open the video in YouTube you can see the other video's of the series....Check out the one about electronic stuff!
  17. Wow! Sorry about that! I really didn't think it was political at all! Did you even look at the video???? I understand that some folks could try to MAKE it political.......some people could make a Sunday Picnic into a religious or politcal situation..... BUT this video is NOT political in the least! . It speaks of "Government" without any party or even national predjiduce...so where is the politics? The message is simply the causes of pollution, and education about the world situation and what we can do about it. North Americal is without any question one of the worst offenders in the misuse of "stuff" We can continue what we are doing....bury our heads in the sand or even refuse to talk about it.....but that won't help. WE HAVE TO LEARN from videos such as this and CHANGE OUR WAYS! Otherwise we will just keep sliding into the muck.... For those who wish to see the video series...just google "the story of stuff" and you'll find it. Freebird...I think you are doing us all a dis-service by deleting this video!
  18. A cop stops a biker for traveling faster than the posted speed limit, so he asks the biker his name. ' Fred, ' he replies. ' Fred what? ' the officer asks. ' Just Fred, ' the man responds. The officer is in a good mood and thinks he might just give the biker a break and, write him out a warning instead of a ticket. The officer then presses him for the last name. The man tells him that he used to have a last name but lost it. The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it. ' Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name? ' The biker replies, ' It ' s a long story, so stay with me. ' I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD.. After a while I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! Got all the way through school, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD , DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD. Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred. '
  19. This lady has a series of videos that are a real eye opener! This one is about 20 min...but I highly recommend it for anyone who might care about the world we live in. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLBE5QAYXp8]YouTube - Story of Stuff, Full Version; How Things Work, About Stuff[/ame] There are several others....The Story of Bottled Water, Electronics, Cosmetics, and one on Cap and Trade I do what I can, but I'm just scratching the surface and there is always room for improvement. I have strong religious belefs concerning the future, but without getting political, or religious I'd encourage discussion on this topic.
  20. We have 2 pom crosses...about 10-12 lbs each. My wife and I have tried to figure out how we can ride with them. We thought of removing the trunk box and putting a cage on there...but it's a bit tight. An idea that crossed my mind is to take an old set of saddle bags, and take the outside half off, and build a cage using the back half so you maintain the mounting system. Haven't really thought it thru....heat, exhaust etc might be an issue in that location. Plus being that close to the road might scare them out of their wits! Plus....they would end up being the skid pan in an accident..... Never mind! I've thought it thru enough! BAD IDEA!!!!!
  21. I like to keep a good distance from the vehicle in front of me...especially on super slabs. But you know that any time I do, some idiot figures there's a break for him to swerve into my lane and fill the gap. So I back off again to gain the space...and the result is I'm slowing down, so more people go around and fill ithe gap I'm trying to create. You can't win sometimes!
  22. First- GROW "SOME"!!!! or...you could try to reason with her by using the old "do I tell you how to run your kitchen?" line of reasoning. My wife would never think to tell me what I should do on my bike. But then I very rarely tell her what to do with household things! Reading this post made me realize I am a sexist! But that is who I am and I am comfortable with it:whistling:
  23. Not to stir things up (well....OK JUST to stir things up.) Why is it OK for the troopers to launch a blitz targeting big rigs to ensure drivers are sleeping enough....or that the rigs are safe to be on the road...but it's NOT OK for them to target a different segment of the road users? I agree it seems "suspect" but if we are obeying the laws of the land what's the problem?
  24. Our company offered employees a "group buy" and interest free loan with payroll deductions for up to $1000 of computer equipment purchases streched over 2 years. I already had a "state of the art" system, I think it was a 486 that had just come out so I opted to use the money to buy some memory. For $1000 I got one stick of 16 meg of RAM. The 12% interest we should have paid on the loan was considered a taxable benefit. By the time I finished paying for it, the amount of extra income tax I paid on the taxable benefit was more than the current price of the stick of RAM! But my system could really fly...at least at first. By the time I finsished paying for the RAM Pentium's were out and my system was out of date. Now of course...by the time you get it out of the box it is out of date!
